Artist Steve Scott to Appear at Mini MegaCon this Weekend!

Click Here to see our NEWLY LISTED Comics, Graphic Novels, Toys, Fanzines and Prozines!

Above: Steve Scott in Brussels, Belgium at a convention!

To the Left:  I Just love Hulk vs Thing matchups... this one is by Steve Scott!

Alright... I gotta admit... as an ex-Marvel Zombie, I can't help but get excited at seeing the Hulk vs Thing match-up at the top left of this blog post...

Which is what artist Steve Scott's agent, Renee Witterstaetter, got my attention on, what with her Press Release about Steve exhibiting at the Mini MegaCon this weekend!

Renee sent the above two pics and a couple more of Steve's works to me along with the press release.  The fact is... The Thing is my favorite comic book character of all time, and when someone can do him justice like Steve did above... well, I'll take a look at what else there is for possible mention!

The following are excerpts from the Press Release:

Orlando, Florida--Mini MegaCon is shaping up to be one BIG show August 22nd-23rd, with  X-Men Forever artist Steve Scott also now slated to be at the event, joining a line-up of tremendous talent.

Steve's  work can currently be seen on the best-selling  "X-Men Forever" series with writer Chris Claremont.  Not to mention that Steve is  the ONLY artist tapped by DC Comics to do work relating to "Batman Forever," depicting the now legendary turn of Heath Ledger as The Joker. Look for Steve's work in the Blue-Ray disc release of the movie!

Steve is no stranger to media tie-in's.  His work is often seen on the television show Smallville and in other special projects for DC Comics,  as well as his pencil work for the recent "Indiana Jones--Tomb of the Gods," comic book series for Dark Horse to tie-in with the most recent hit Harrison Ford movie! (In fact, George Lucas liked Steve's work so much that he purchased most of the originals to keep for himself! )

Beginning his comics career at  Malibu Comics with his wildly popular stint on "Razor" for London Night, as well as "New Warriors," "Hourman," and "JLA" for Marvel and DC,  Steve's pencils have also appeared in the pages of "Shadowpact," "The Creeper" with writer Steve Niles, "Batman Legends of the Dark Knight," and "Checkmate." He got a particularly special kick out of bringing to life some of DC Comics strangest characters like Detective Chimp, Rex the Wonder Dog, Rag Man, The Phantom Stranger and many others.

Recent and current projects at Marvel Comics, and DC Comics include working with industry legends Louise Simonson and Chris Claremont on the titles "Magik" and "Exiles," the "Marvel Adventures" line featuring Fantastic Four, Avengers, and the Hulk, work on "She-Hulk," and a Kyle XY one shot for Disney/ABC with writer Jeff Parker.

In other words, he's busy making comics, which is a good thing for his ever growing number of fans.

Recently returned from a signing tour in Belgium, France and the Netherlands, look for more of Steve's work in "X-Men Forever," as well as some surprises to be announced soon! Steve Scott will be available both days of Mini MegaCon for signing and sketching. Saturday 10 am to 7 pm and Sunday 10 am to 5 pm.

My thanks to Renee for sending this to my attention!

BTW, other guests that are joining Steve at the Mini MegaCon in Orlando Florida this weekend include: Amanda Conner, Darwyn Cooke, Dick Giordano, Greg Horn, Jimmy Palmiotti, Casey Jones, Phil Noto, Christian Slade, Tony Bedard, Sergio Cariello, Jim Cheung, Terry Cronin, Chuck Dixon, Drew Geraci, Greg Land, Alvin Lee, Jeff Parker, Mike Perkins, Brandon  Peterson, Renee Witterstaetter, Sylvester McCoy, Lisa Loring, Felix Silla, Vic Mignogna, Amanda Stevens, Rob Hunter, plus many more!

The convention will be located at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando Florida, August 22nd and 23rd. For more information visit http://www.megaconvention.com/

And, for more information on Steve Scott and his work, contact Renee Witterstaetter at: evaink@aol.com

'24' is ONE Show we will NOT tape... It has to be seen 'live'!

Political Power: Colin Powell From BlueWater Comics!

Political Power:

Colin Powell

From

 Bluewater Comics!

Continuing my blogs on comics that I have recently received for review and that I want to blog about here...  is another one from Bluewater Comics!   This company keeps publishing many comics that are of interest to me as a reader!

This issue is from a series of one shot publications on those who have wielded political power in recent years or are currently.  I do not express my political views in my Blog.  However this issue transcends political views and parties and tells a good story about this person who has been in the news for several years and how his actions have affected the general population.

Actually this issue goes into more depth than you would think, even though it is in a 22 page 'floppy' stand alone issue, and not a graphic novel.

Which I believe is due to the writer, Wey-Uih Loh.  Biographies sometimes can be a little dull, but Wey keeps the storyline moving, without sensationalizing the character.  Good job there Wey!

M. Scott Woodward is the penciler on this issue. The likeness of Colin Powell is well represented on the pages.  The artwork also flowed with the dialogue and got the story moving within the limits of the 22 pages and was paced well.

Kirsty Swan's colors were in keeping with going into the past, both during Colin's childhood and his rising through the ranks of the US Army.

Lettering by Wilson Ramos Jr. was very good, even with all the narrative text and the actual dialogue.  Sometimes lettering can get in the way of the art, but that did not happen here, even with all of the narrative and dialogue in this text heavy storyline.

The front cover by Vinnie Tartamella was a striking one,  one that should attract casual browsers at the bookstores or local comic book stores and turn them into buyers...

The storyline covers from when Colin was a kid up until when he left office as Secretary of State.  The sequential art concept is a good one for presenting biographies.  This one did so without shoving any political views in my face as a reader.  Good Job!

This issue's cover price was $3.99, well worth the price for this stand alone issue #1 in the series of Political Power.

For more info on the Political Power series with previous and upcoming issues, please see the Bluewater Comics web site at:  http://www.Bluewaterprod.com

Spotlight On... Elisa Féliz!

Spotlight On...

Elisa Féliz

Click Here to see our NEWLY LISTED Comics, Graphic Novels, Toys, Fanzines and Prozines!

Above: Photo of Elisa Féliz!

To the Left: Cover for the Alice in Nightmareland comic strips collection created by Elisa!

Continuing my 'Spotlight On...' Series, is this entry on Elisa Féliz, who is now the owner of her own company book company in the Dominican Republic!

As stated in past blogs, even though the 'comic book' is an 'American' invention, the reach of comic books and graphic novels today is world wide.

Which is truly evidenced by the many creators that come from all over the world to the yearly Comic Con International: San Diego that I've also blogged about here.

A recent entry on my Facebook Home Page Wall was a post by Elisa who declared that she was now the owner of her comic book company in the Dominican Republic!  Well, I couldn't let that post run off the page without making a comment!  Elisa was kind enough to send me her bio and a head shot with the cover of her upcoming project, 'Alice In Nightmareland'!

Details as follows:

"My name is Elisa Féliz. I'm 21 years old. I'm a comic artist, web developer and designer. I was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. My career started when i began participating in national and international art contests when i was 6 years old, and i began doing commissioned work. I published my first comic strip in 1998.

I started doing web design and programming in 2003, and got engaged in a project for a dominican social network called "A Tu Nivel" in 2005. Not long before i worked as a css layout designer for some Ufo Film websites.

I started drawing comic books as a self-trained artist in 2007 and have been working as a penciller and a colorist. I recently worked as one of the artists for the Villikon Chronicles Proclivity series by Silent Nemesis Workshop, created by Bryan Kinnaird. The series precede the film "Villikon Chronicles: Genesis of Evil". I also did some digital illustrations for the film.

Some other comics i've worked on are "Dallas" (Based on the popular tv series), "Intrepid", "Knight Reavers" and "RX Tales". I'm the creator of "Codename: X-girl", "Alice in Nightmareland" and co-creator of "Intrepid".

In 2007 i launched my own clothing brand called Elliz Clothing (www.ellizclothing.com).

In 2008 i moved to NJ to attend the Joe Kubert School of cartoon and graphic art, but i continued my career as a comic artist and web developer while i was attending school.

In 2009 i registered my own comic book company called: "XSIDE Comics" (www.xsidecomics.com). We are planning to publish "Codename: X-girl" and a few other comics in United States and Dominican Republic. XSIDE Comics is the first comics company in Dominican Republic and our goal is to start the comic book business in the country. Our comic "Codename: X-girl" is the first dominican comic ever registered.

My personal site: www.elisafeliz.com."

So as you can see from the above, Elisa is one busy creator! If you are interested in becoming one of her Facebook Friends, you should send her a Friends Request right away.  She is almost maxxed out at the 5,000 friends limit!  She has also started a Fan Page on Facebook, which doesn't have a limit for the number of fans:  I love Elisa Féliz's Artwork  is the name of that Fan Page should you see this post several months from the date this is blogged!

Please Note:  The 'Spotlight On...' series is for featuring creators that I come across either at comic cons or are Facebook Friends.  This series is Not a 'review' of any of their works.  Reviews are only blogged after reading a full copy of any creator's work, and is a 'review' of that one work only.  This 'Spotlight On...' series is to present to You, the blog reader, creators that have piqued my interest enough to take the time to generate a blog entry about them.  You too could be 'Spotlighted' here.  Just message me via Facebook or email me for consideration!

Also, unless we are on site all day and night during a three day or longer comic con... we normally blog daily on comic book creators, comic book reviews,  comic book conventions, and pop culture news and events!

Plus for purchases of items that our blog posts are normally based on; please check out our listings of comics, graphic novels, Comic Con exclusives and more pop culture items for sale in our own online store

Thanks again to all of YOU reading our current and archived blog posts!

Spotlight On... James Pinard !

Spotlight On...

James Pinard!

Click Here to see our NEWLY LISTED Comics, Graphic Novels, Toys, Fanzines and Prozines!

Above Photo: The Front Cover to the DARK TRINITY Project.   To the Left:  James Pinard @ the 2009 SDCC.

I met several creators at this year's San Diego Comic Con, or as they call it now:  Comic Con International: San Diego...

James Pinard was one of them, whom I had 'met' only via Facebook and the telephone prior to meeting him at the SDCC.  Due to time schedules and the fact that two programs Tina and I were interested in were overlapping; it turned out that Tina and James were going to the same comics marketing program.

So after introducing James to Tina, I read further on what James was working on.  I thought I would share that info with my blog readers today. First is the biography on James, and then the 'pitch' on one of his two current projects.  If you are an illustrator reading this blog post, you might want to check out the 'Dark Trinity' project pitch that James is in need of an illustrator to collaborate with!

JAMES PINARD

(Screenplays, Comic book/Graphic novel writer)
Currently working on Comic book scripts for “Dark Trinity,” and “Death by Devine.”

Biography:

I am a writer whose love for movies has lead me into the world of screenplay writing which I have been doing for many years now. In addition to writing screenplays, I have also written some poetry and short stories. I also maintain two websites, one for my comic and one for my other works. Sometime back I renewed my interest and passion for comic books and graphic novels. I will also be working on a short movie script based on one of my comics in the near future.

My current focus is on creating a series of comic books based on one of my screenplays called “DARK TRINITY.” The screenplay is registered with the WGA and the comic with the copyright office. I am also working on the comic script for a second story in the series set in the Forbidden City called “DEATH BY DIVINE.”

I am currently seeking an artist who I can collaborate with on either one of these comics. I would like this to be a true collaboration where we each have input on the other’s work.

Currently resides in: Orlando, FL.

For those of you that may be interested in collaborating with James on either of his two projects, here is more on Dark Trinity, which I have seen a little more of:

“Dark Trinity” is a graphic novel that entertains you as an action packed ultra-violent thriller set in our world of the future. The Story will draw you in and make you think, because it could be true…

Set in the “Forbidden City,” an ultra-violent futuristic city, where Demons hide in human form by day and change into their true demonic form at night to hunt humans from the shadows.

As a boy, Micheal our hero, is an angel in human form. He watched as Demons who were sent to kill him, murdered his parents. He didn’t know that he was sent to defend the world from Demons who were poised to plunge the world into a dark and dangerous place. After his parent’s death Father Aragon, Michael’s protector, knew of Michael’s special abilities and sent him out of the city and into hiding where he would be safe and could develop his “gifts.” He knew Michael’s true destiny.

Michael returns years later as a man to find Sara, the childhood friend he left behind, who is also an Angel, sent to help him on a journey of discovery. A journey that will ultimately lead him to find others of his kind and the secret to his powers, all the while being hunted by Demons, who know he has returned.

Luther, his adversary and leader of the “Blade Heads,” the gang of Demons that hold the city in fear, will stop at nothing to kill Michael before he can uncover the truth. A great secret that will reveal the importance of the human race, who are the real key to stopping Luther. This secret will ultimately change the world and our reality as we know it forever…

This ends my blog's 'Spotlight on James Pinard' post...my thanks to James for meeting up with me at the SDCCI, as it was harder than ever to meet people there this year due to all the program scheduling conflicts, and long lines to get in!
