To the right:  Although his book 'No Exit' was printed back in 1991, it is still available from several sources!

This entry in our 'Spotlight On...' blog post series is about ....

Erik Andresen, who I have been in contact with, off and on, for many years during the early years of his comics mail order and of course, mine.  We recently became Facebook Friends, and I realized that Erik has really been busy all these years!   So I asked him to share with my Blog on what he has done in recent years, and what's new with him.  Here it is in his own words:

"I drew a popular comic strip for my college newspaper. (The Arizona Daily Wildcat at The University Of Arizona). After graduating in 1989, I created my own comic strip syndicate and distributed my comics to college newspapers. At its height, my comic appeared in over 200 college newspapers, and was the most widely read college-only comic strip in America at the time. A book of my cartoons, “No Exit by Erik Andresen” was published in 1991 by Bean Avenue publishing, and is still available on Amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/0962811106/ref=dp_olp_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1255459588&sr=8-1

Even so, I was making more money trading vintage comic books as a hobby. I opened a collectibles store and drawing comics took a back seat to selling comic books.

My store did very well and one day, one of my customers wanted to buy it. By now, I was married and my wife was expecting our first child. So I sold the store and became a stay-at-home dad.

While raising my son, I also sold collectibles on eBay. I became a Power Seller and met many great entrepreneurs through the eBay discussion boards.

One of them is Bruce Hershenson, owner of a website called eMoviePoster.com. He knew I used to be a cartoonist, and asked me to draw cartoon ads for him. Each ad features Bruce as a different character, based on a classic movie genre. In one ad, he’s a jungle man, like Tarzan. In another, he’s a hard-boiled detective, like Sam Spade. The ads appear in Movie Collector’s World magazine, and also on his website.

Other people saw the ads and wanted me to draw cartoons for them. One of them is the wife of a vintage watch dealer. She couldn’t buy him a watch. He already owns thousands of them. She had me turn him into a superhero called “The Watchdude”, who fights crime after being bitten by a radioactive watch dog.

At his birthday party, the comic strip was turned into a giant poster, and attendees wore t-shirts with the comic strip on it. The watch dealer says it was one of the best birthday gifts he ever received.

Another one of my clients operates job expos in foreign countries, for professionals seeking work in America. This client believes that people throw away junk mail, but they’ll read a comic strip. The next expo is in Australia, so I drew a cartoon where a koala is talking to an employer, telling him about the expo. The comic was turned into a postcard and mailed to human resource directors all over the United States.

I think the internet has opened up some tremendous opportunities for cartoonists to apply their craft. There are thousands, maybe even millions, of small and micro business owners who are proud of their accomplishments and would love to have their story told in fun-to-read comic strip format. You can publish anything, anywhere for any audience.

The internet is also a tremendous place to learn. Facebook is such a vibrant, exciting community. I’ve been lucky to be able to interact with so many gifted and knowledgeable people from so many different walks of life. Some of my “Facebook Friends” are accomplished artists, writers, publishers and entrepreneurs who share their craft and offer valuable feedback.

YouTube is an incredible educational resource. You can find videos which teach you how to do almost anything. When I started drawing these cartoon ads, I needed to color them in Photoshop, and I had no idea how to do that. After a YouTube search, I found dozens of videos from professional comic book colorists which helped me get up to speed.

I turned a couple of my cartoons into YouTube videos, and I think that internet videos might be a great way to branch out.

The reboot of my cartooning career is still in its infancy. I’m grateful to those who have allowed me to learn from them, to those who have offered encouragement, and especially to those who have paid me to draw cartoons for them. THANK YOU!"    - Erik Andresen

My thanks to Erik for taking the time to share the above with us today!  If You would like to see what Erik is doing now and in the future:

CONVENTION PHOTOS FEATURETTE:   So one of the main reasons to go to comic cons is to meet comics creators and also request sketches or commission artwork for yourself.  Below is Michael with comics creator Lak Lim at the recent 2009 Long Beach Comic Con!  Lak is holding artwork  that he illustrated of 'The Thing', my favorite comic book character!  You can commission Lak, by going to this website:  http://lakcoo2u.deviantart.com/

Last week I became aware of the 'Wonder Woman Day IV' celebrations that were being held on both coasts of the USA.  One in Portland Oregon, and the other in Flemington, New Jersey this past weekend.

So on last Friday, I blogged about the Wonder Woman Day IV, (click here for that post), and the activities that were going on at both locations, and the two separate charity auctions that were being held.

I've heard more back on the New Jersey location, so am presenting the above photos, courtesy of Amber Love, here in my Blog!

As you can see above, there were superheroes there in person!  Plus one of my favorite artists, Joe Sinnott - who I really appreciate inking a lot of Jack Kirby's pencils over the many years at Marvel Comics, (including many issues of my Favorite Series of all time, the Fantastic Four)!

Also, the many Wonder Woman and other character sketches that were for auction brought in a little over $5,000 for SAFE in Hunterdon, per Stacy Korn, co-owner of Comic Fusion.

Looks and sounds like a good time was had by all, PLUS a significant amount raised for charity at the New Jersey location for Wonder Woman IV.

(When I hear more of the Portland, Oregon location, I may blog about that here.)

To see more of what Comic Fusion did for Wonder Woman Day IV, please check the web site at:    http://store.comicfusion.net/wwsketches09.html  !

To see more of what Amber Love did at Wonder Woman Day IV, and is doing next, please check her blog at:    http://herofashions.blogspot.com/ !

My thanks to Amber and Stacy for the info they provided!  And congrats to you both for taking the time and effort to do this event on the East Coast!

CONVENTION PHOTOS FEATURETTE:   So the Main Feature of this blog post was about 'Wonder Woman Day IV' held at opposite coasts of the USA.  Well, earlier this month of October, I met two 'Wonder Women' myself at the recent 2009 Long Beach Comic Con!  Those would be the two ladies pictured below with myself in the middle!  Both of these charming ladies were real-life Superheroes in Season 2 of Stan Lee's Who Wants To Be A Superhero? TV Show on the SyFy Channel!  Trisha Paytas (a.k.a. Ms. Limelight), and Melody Mooney (a.k.a. Hygena) were both at a media booth at the LBCC where I met them above.  You can see what else they are doing now by viewing their websites.

Two websites for Trisha are: https://www.youtube.com/blndsundoll4mj#p/a and http://twitter.com/grindhousebarbi .

Two websites for Melody are at:  http://resumes.actorsaccess.com/melodymooney  and http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0600758/!  My thanks to both of them for treating me and all of those other convention attendees that stopped in to see them so well at the LBCC!

To the middle right:  Elvira, Halloween & Coors!

To the bottom right: The front cover to Elvira - Mistress of the Dark #22 from Claypool Comics.  As You can see... Elvira and Halloween definitely go together!

I've met Cassandra Petersen before at different comic conventions; when she is either presenting a program as herself, or when she is costumed as 'Elvira'.

For me, Halloween would usually include some sort of 'Elvira' theme.  I lived in the Los Angeles Metro area for a while, which includes the period of time that Elvira started hosting the late night film shows.

I was also there when she helped transform Knott's Berry Farm into Knott's Scary Farm in Buena Park.

So yeah... Elvira has been part of my Halloween for several years in one format or the other.   And that would include comic books!  Both the DC House of Mystery series with Elvira, and also Claypool Comics' series - Elvira, Mistress of the Dark!

Enough listening to me ramble on about Elvira...

To see what Elvira is up to right now, please check this web site page of hers at:    http://www.elvira.com/home_2.html  !

My thanks to Cassandra Petersen, a.k.a. Elvira for all the great products, commercials, and films that she has done for her fandom!

CONVENTION PHOTOS FEATURETTE:   So the question was posed in the title of this blog: "What's Halloween... Without Elvira?!"  Well, to others it could be the question:  "What's Halloween... Without Zombies?!"   For the answer to that question, You might want to take a look at Mike Hampton's web site where the "Hot Zombie Chicks" reign!  I met Mike at the recent 2009 Long Beach Comic Con where he had a few of his self-published comics at his table.  I haven't blogged about his publication as of yet, (still have several more to blog about yet from the LBCC), but in the meantime You can check out Mike's web site at:  http://www.916halo.com/hotzombiechicks.html !

Upcoming Elvis Presley Experience Graphic Novel!

Projected Publication For The Summer of 2010!

Click Here to see our ENDING SOONEST Marvel Superheroes Comics listings!

Above:  Stan Lee with Jay Allen Sanford circa 1991 with the Unauthorized 'Contemporary Bio-Graphics' issue on Stan (The Man) Lee!  Jay was the writer of that issue.

To the top right: The 'Sneak Peak' at the front cover of the upcoming Elvis Presley Experience Graphic Novel!

To the right:  Yeah, that's Michael at his first batchelor pad circa 1973, when he was still interested in record collecting, (check out the wall posters of whom besides Elvis!). Plus Marvel Comics, as seen by the other posters on the wall!  And of course a few cans of 'Coors' for nourishment... Those and the old Charburgers 5 for a $1.00 burger menu got me through a lot of college days! That way I could buy used LP records at the 'Arcade Music Store' in downtown San Diego for $1.95 each!

Okay, I had to do it... I bumped the scheduled blog post for this morning so I could run this post instead!

And No, I don't usually do that, unless it is something big!

So look at the top right of this blog post...

You are looking at a "Sneak peek at the cover to a book collection of the seven issue Rock 'N' Roll Comics series The Elvis Presley Experience - probably won't come out until around summer 2010"!

That's what I was told yesterday... and being an Elvis Presley fan, and a big fan of the rock comics / graphic novel format, I had to tell ya all of this upcoming graphic novel today!

Yeah, we gotta wait until the Summer of 2010, but I'll be looking for this one from Bluewater Productions!  It's definitely on My List!

My Thanks to Jay Allen Sanford who brought this to my attention!

Oh... and Jay is shown at the above top left with Stan Lee, holding a copy of the 'Contemporary Bio-Graphics' issue on Stan Lee circa 1991 when it was first published by Revolutionary Comics!  We are down to our last copy of this HTF comic book in our online store.  Plus, I don't know about other dealers, but we find it hard to keep any Revolutionary Comics publications in stock on bands that they covered during their publishing period.  Those were good comics and now many collectors of both rock music and comic books are busy looking for those!

Jay Allen Sanford is a pretty busy guy.  For more on what he is doing please check these web sites at:

http://www.myspace.com/jayallensanford
http://www.myspace.com/sandiegoreadermus
http://www.rocknrollcomics.com

My thanks to Jay for bringing the above to my attention... I do appreciate that!

SPECIAL FEATURETTE:   So For those of YOU that read this far into my blog posts.... Here's something else that YOU can hopefully look forward to during the Summer of  2010!  And I'm quoting here:  "Brand new cover for a proposed Pink Floyd Experience graphic novel, collecting all five issues of the original Rock 'N' Roll Comics series in a new book from Bluewater Productions"!

Man, If there's something I like about rock music and comics separately, it's even better when they are put together in a comic book or graphic novel format!  So I'm looking forward to this proposed GN also!

To the left:  Tina enjoys attending the Pop Culture Programs @ Cons, especially those at the @ San Diego Comic Con International. That's because she has to be there even before the News Channels are set up to be early in line for the first program of the day!  She doesn't even want to talk about what hour she had to be in line for the 'Last LOST TV Show Panel' at the 2009 SDCC!

PLEASE NOTE: This blog post stating our shipping rates was first poste October 29th, 2009.  Unfortunately the USPS has revised their rates for January 4th, 2009.

So the below blog post is revised to reflect those rates!

-------------------------------------

This is a revised blog post combining our earlier posts from May and August of this year when we revised our shipping rates.  And domestic shipping actually went down at that time!

Today... Because eBay has decided to 'retire' their blog platform as of October 31st, 2009, we had to use our own domain named Blog to post all the details that we can't fit into the eBay FAQs, message links etc.  However we are NOT asking our eBay repeat customers and potential eBay customers to buy off eBay. We just needed a message board to send those asking questions about what we ship and for how much to their area of the world.

This blog post is our means to tell everything that we can in ONE place to make it easier for ALL of our customers, both eBay and non-eBay alike!  We do have 'want-list' customers that keep us updated as to what they are looking for and those customers get first opportunity at our items Before they are listed in our eBay Store...

So the following rates apply to ALL of our customers, and are restated here since the eBay blog posts will be deleted after Halloween, (and no we're NOT trickn' you, that's eBay's decision!).

SHIPPING COST TO USA Addresses:

SHIPPING COST FOR NON-CGC COMIC BOOKS:
This FLAT RATE Shipping is for NON-CGC graded comic books only!  (NO magazines, NO CGC encapsulated graded comics, and NO other non-comic items are included in this shipping special!)  We will continue to ship unlimited non-CGC graded comics to USA addresses only at the special $3.95 shipping! Whether you buy 1 or 3 or 10 or even more comics, the shipping rate for comic books is still $3.95! PLUS for the $3.95 you get FREE Delivery Receipt Confirmation for tracking your purchase(s)!  PLEASE NOTE: If you add non-comics to your comic purchases we cannot ship them for this special $3.95 rate.  The rate is for comics only!  If you combine comics with mags, TPBs, etc. then we have to use combined shipping which will be more than the $3.95.  How much more?  We don't know until the items are pulled!
SHIPPING COST FOR MAGAZINES:
We also sell Magazines, but they are odd-sized and varied in number of pages so they cannot be sent via the 'unlimited shipping' rate, sorry!  We will combine shipping where we can, but please email us FIRST for combined shipping cost BEFORE you click to buy multiple magazines!  We will have to revise our Flat Rate Priority Mail Box shipping to $11.95 for January 3rd, 2010!
SHIPPING COST FOR CGC GRADED COMICS:
CGC graded comics come in plastic holders and are shipped only via a Priority BOX so as to protect the holders.  We can place 1 to 2 CGC graded comics in the Flat Rate Priority Box for $11.95 to USA addresses only
-------------------------------
SHIPPING COST TO CANADA:

FLAT RATE Priority International Shipping is for NON-CGC graded comic books only!  We will ship 4 to 9 non-CGC graded comics to CANADIAN addresses only at the $12.95 shipping charge!  Sorry, no magazines and no CGC graded comics at this shipping rate!
However, If you want to buy JUST ONE NON-CGC comic, (no magazines, just a comic), then the shipping cost would be $4.99 for FIRST CLASS INTERNATIONAL, but  ONLY FOR ONE SINGLE STANDARD SIZED COMIC BOOKFor 2 to 3 standard sized comics... We can ship those comics (only non-CGC comics) for $6.99 USD!
PLEASE NOTE: We will ship up to 25 single standard sized non-slabbed comics in a Flat Rate Priority Box International to Canadian addresses. The shipping and handling charge for that is $28.95 USD.
For those in Canada that are interested in magazines, we can ship one in a Flate Rate Priority Mail Envelope for $12.95 USD. Possibly two magazines in a Flat Rate Envelope depending upon the magazine size and page counts.  Please email us first with which magazine(s) you are interested in as we do not list magazines for international shipping normally. The listings would have to each be revised to allow you to purchase them individually. We will be glad to do so after we communicate with you on the costs and how many would fit in the envelope!
For CGC Comics - We are now shipping them to Canadian addresses. On an individual buyer basis only. Please email us if you have interest in our CGC listings. The CGC encapsulated comics would have to be shipped via Priority International Flat Rate Box for the $28.95 USD Shipping Charge PLUS Insurance if over $25.00 value of the item. We can place from one to two CGC encapsulated comic(s) in each Flat Rate Box.
SHIPPING COST TO UNITED KINGDOM & AUSTRALIA:

FLAT RATE Priority International Shipping is for NON-CGC graded comic books only!  We will ship 2 to 9 non-CGC graded comics, (no magazines) to the UK or AU/NZ for $14.95 USD as that is what the Priority International Envelope will hold with cardboard insert for protection.
However, If you want to buy JUST ONE NON-CGC comic, (no magazines, just a single standard sized comic book), then the shipping cost would be $9.99 for FIRST CLASS INTERNATIONAL, but  ONLY FOR ONE SINGLE STANDARD SIZED COMIC BOOK.
Magazines are not normally listed for shipping to the UK & Australia. However, we can ship them, but as explained in the section above for Canadian buyers, the sizes and page counts make those purchases more difficult to figure out shipping costs. Please email us so we can figure out what can be shipped to you and for what cost.
NOTE:  We will ship up to 25 single standard sized raw (non encapsulated CGC comics) in a flat rate priority mail box to the UK and Australia.  Our charge for this would be $45.95 USD at this time for the shipping.
For CGC Graded Comics - We are now shipping them to UK and Australian addresses. On an individual buyer basis only. Please email us if you have interest in our CGC listings. The CGC encapsulated comics would have to be shipped via Priority International Flat Rate Box for the $45.95 USD Shipping Charge PLUS Insurance if over $25.00 value of the item. We can place from one to two CGC encapsulated comic(s) in each Flat Rate Box.
SHIPPING COST TO OTHER COUNTRIES:

For other countries that are NOT listed above, we still may be able to ship to YOUR country! There are multiple reasons why we don't universally show that we ship to your country, but we encourage you to e-mail us with your question as to shipping charges for YOUR country!
