TODAY'S FEATURE - Blog #3244: This past Saturday my youngest son and I attended the 2nd monthly Collector Con in Oceanside, California. I blogged about the 1st monthly show last month, as seen here in this link. This blog post is about my thoughts of the show, and some of those vendors I met there. This show is still working the kinks out as any new startup would be. It is a venue that is really needed in the North County San Diego County area... The following are just a few of those that I met at this show that I want to share with you:
They were Rich & Karen Clayton as seen in the photo to the left. (L-R) A customer, Rich, Karen, Michael. They currently don't have a web site that they sell from, but if you are attending the October Long Beach Comic Con, you can see them there.
TSG Entertainment has a Facebook Fan Page at Thou Shalt Game Entertainment. The store is physically located in Temecula, California.
To the left is Jesse Lopez, of TSG. Each time we walked by the tent, it was full of players!
She had several boxes of Disney Comics, and other cartoon comics. These had been the collection of her deceased brother, Robert Carbine, who was a well known collector. She currently doesn't sell these online, but send me your want list and email address, and I'll forward her your info should she have what you are looking for.

To the left are Paul Luna and Rick Westbrock, of the Fanatical Gamers Society. Here is the web site for that Society: FGSNC.com.

I see Heather and Raven White at many of the conventions I attend. They definitely have many DVDs that YOU should check out when you see them at a convention near you! They have rare & OOP movies, TV series & More on DVD. Matter of fact, if all goes as planned for the next Collector Con in October, they will be having a super event in the evening. When it is confirmed, I'll be blogging about it here, and mentioning at my own Facebook Group Page at Facebook Comic Con | Make It So Marketing. I've run out of space and time to include more in today's blog post. I'll be blogging about the October event when it is confirmed and the posters are printed. So I would suggest that if your are near the North County San Diego area, to check this 'Collector Con' out on October 23rd when it is running again. Keep your calendar open for that until all is confirmed... --------------------- BTW, here's my son's Vinnie 'Take' on just two of the booths that we visited and that he had special interest in:

On the right as I walked into the Collector Con area of the swap meet were a couple that I had met at an earlier San Diego Quarterly Con.
Also on the right hand side going down the opening aisle, was Sarah from TSG Entertainment. 
Talking about gaming...It was TSG that was sponsoring the gaming tent this month.
Robin Miller of Bobby's Comics was there.
Darren of Sky High Comics was also there... I've blogged about this store a few times in the past.
Still I was coming across new vendors that had set up at this month's show.
To the left are Michael Babalolu & Julie Brooks, owners of Funland Comics ARcade N' More up in Sunland, CA, (near Pasadena).
Last in this blog, but certainly not least, is Heather of Retro Entertainment Services.
"Yesterday, my dad and I went to the Oceanside Collector's Con. While there, we went to each booth, to check out the selections. At one of the tables were these people, Ron and Sheri. They are owners of SPLATEZ, and to quote, "Home of the coolest switchplates on earth." We were talking and joking around for awhile, and of the pictures my dad took, the picture to the left seemed to fit best with the atmosphere at this table. I got a Spider-man switchplate there, which was great, because currently, I don't have one. Now I'll have the coolest switchplate to cover the gap in the wall holding wires. Also while there, we visited another booth. The guy's name was Brian Bennion (sp.), and he used to own Top Flight Comics. After talking for awhile, and my dad purchasing some comics, Brian asked if I was missing any comics for my Amazing Spider-man Collection, as that was one of the topics in our conversation. So I picked out a few and he added them in the deal my dad was making, for free. Thanks Brian!

To the left is the 2nd Prize, which was the book that Leo CArrillo wrote, 'The California I Love'. You can pick this up at the Gift Store at the front of the Ranch, if YOU haven't read it before!
Now I want to mention Charles Balteria, who is the face and voice of this Leo Carrillo Film Festival for those that attend. 
BTW, the Cisco Kid episode on Friday Night was titled 'Haven For Heavies' - (TV episode 1951 #1.20). I kept looking at the female lead in the episode, and did she look familar, even though she was in western garb! Turned out she was Phyllis Coates...YES, That Phyllis Coates! 
•Sept. 24 – Honululu Lu (1940) run time: 70 minutes. Upon arriving in Hawaii with Don Esteban Cordoba (Leo Carrillo), Consuelo Cordoba (Lupe Velez) finds herslef in a risque nighclub and due to her involvement with a group of sailors has a chance to become a beauty queen. Starring: Leo Carrillo, Lupe Velez and Bruce Bennett.
BTW, if you don't know...I also blog about this Film Festival every year because there is a comic book connection as well!

As I mentioned in last week's blog, this week was going to be 'Hot Dog Week' at the Cabana where they serve the food, drinks, and snacks! 
The three 'Opportunity Drawing' prizes looked pretty good again, so I opted to take photos of all three. 
I'm going to skip showing the 2nd Runner Up Prize, bu to the the left was last night's Grand Prize...Which included a Cisco Kid Episode Guide! 
•Sept. 10 – Sin Town (1942) run time: 73 minutes. After being conned himself into buying a bunch of dry oil wells, conman Duke decides to lead the town's businessmen in an effort to take the law into their own hands. When his plan backfires, Duke finds himself at the mercy of the town. Starring: Leo Carrillo, Constance Bennett, and Broderick Crawford.
And a standout as 'Laura Kirby', was Anne Gwynne, as seen to the left in a Scene Card! 
•Sept. 17 – Lillian Russell (1940) run time; 127 minutes. Closed captioning will be available for this film. 
I posted a note about this in last week's blog, but want to mention it again, as it Big News for the Ranch. Two weeks ago, I was contacted by a Facebook Friend, Gerry Streff, an archivist with the the City of Carlsbad, who after seeing my earlier Thursday blog post about this year's Film Season, sent me the following link. 
I'll be posting more pics from this Exhibit, which is titled - 'Leo Carrillo: His Life and Legacy' in the weeks to follow, for those of YOU that are too far away to visit right now...!

Driving there, I found that this Collector Con was at an abandoned drive-in theater that is now a swap meet location. 
The line to get in to the area was a slow one...only one ticket seller. Although it only cost $1 to get into the main area, it took quite a while for the ticket seller to make change and distribute the ticket to get in. 
Other booths were set up, and I went in a systematic order through the aisles. Again, I had thought this would be 'under cover' in a hall of some sort, and it appears that a few vendors there thought the same thing, as several did not have tents with poles covering them or their goods for sale.
In addition to those vendors, there were also individual persons who were there to sell their personal collections such as Jason Harris, shown to the left, who I knew as the LCBS Manager at the old 'Comic Gallery' in Mira Mesa, which closed several years ago. Thanks again, Jason for the great deals on Saturday! And good luck on move!
So I walked over there to see what was going on before walking the booths one more time to look for any deals.
There was some action going on, but I was just there to check out what was also part of the promotional flyer's attractions.
