TODAY'S FEATURE - Blog #3246: Today's post is once again on another publication that I 'found' at the recent SDCCI, back at the end of July of this year. What a great place to celebrate my Birthday Week! Here is what the the creators of the comic book have to say about it on their web site: "Watch out world! The secret's out. Hitler creates superhuman beings to gain world domination. The whole world finds out and create their own. A fun filled adventure brought to you by Chris Perguidi and Allan Angel. First Printing 2010. Written by Chris Perguidi. Pencils by Allan Angel and Chris Perguidi." Inks by Peter Palmiotti and Allan Angel Color Cover. B/W interiors. 28 pages. Price: Sold Out Shipping: Sold Out. Sounded like an interesting concept...Here is 'My Take' on the special WonderCon 2010 Edition of HTown #1, which although is technically 'Sold Out', I have a special announcement about this comic book near the end of the review: Front Cover - A full color comic book cover with loads of characters on it! Looks like a 'period piece'. This is an 'inviting cover' asking a casual browser at a LCBS to pick it up and browse it... Inside Cover - Gives the Credits to the those that worked on the Preview issue, along with the web site to go to for more info, and possible purchase option. Okay start so far... The first page - Not a 'Splash Page' - as it starts with the action right away. I note that it is in black & white for the interior pages. It is a total of 24 pages with action, action, action! Plus a storyline that can be followed, even with all of the multiple characters in the pages! BTW, there actually was a 'splash page', a 2-page spread on pages 2 &3. A really 'Nice' double page spread! Definitely made me want to read more!
The inside back cover was a full page ad for writer Chris Perguidi's 'The Lizard Zone', which appears to be a pop culture show airing in Gilroy. I didn't check that out further.. The back cover was the Ka-Blam! printers ad. Which I see a lot in other self-published comics that are either given to me at comic cons or sent in for possible review...Another good print job from Ka-Blam! As mentioned above, the interior pages are black & white, with color covers on the outside only. I found this Preview Comic to do exactly what preview comics are meant to do...Interest the casual browser at a LCBS enough to make them want to be a reader by purchasing it right then and there. The storyline was one I enjoyed. But then again I liked the 'Invaders' series from Marvel Comics, the old 'Blackhawks' from DC Comics. I'm not comparing this series to those. Just letting you know my tastes in period pieces. The layouts of the panels was fine. Which is hard to do with that many characters to include. Check out some of the Avengers, or JLA comics for comparison. The pencils / inks were also fine. This was a well put together presentation. The only thing missing in a comic book like this was the lack of color. But then again this is a 'Special Preview' at a reasonable cover price. My comic book grade for this publication is a VERY FINE / NEAR MINT, (VF/NM) 9.0 on a 10.0 grading scale. That's because I truly felt that this comic book would have made a better presentation to the general comic reading public had it been printed in full color...
Yes, the preview comic I read and reviewed here is 'Sold Out'. However there is a full color comic book that is being released on October 15th, as seen at this link. I have not read the comic book in color, nor have I seen the additional pages in this new version. However, I did want YOU to be aware that you can pre-order it now!
Also, if YOU are in the SoCal area, AND are attending the upcoming Long Beach Comic Con (LBCC) during the Halloween Weekend, HTown will be for sale there also. So there's no excuse for missing this #1 regular version comic book! On the right as I walked into the Collector Con area of the swap meet were a couple that I had met at an earlier San Diego Quarterly Con.
Also on the right hand side going down the opening aisle, was Sarah from TSG Entertainment. 
Talking about gaming...It was TSG that was sponsoring the gaming tent this month.
Robin Miller of Bobby's Comics was there.
Darren of Sky High Comics was also there... I've blogged about this store a few times in the past.
Still I was coming across new vendors that had set up at this month's show.
To the left are Michael Babalolu & Julie Brooks, owners of Funland Comics ARcade N' More up in Sunland, CA, (near Pasadena).
Last in this blog, but certainly not least, is Heather of Retro Entertainment Services.
"Yesterday, my dad and I went to the Oceanside Collector's Con. While there, we went to each booth, to check out the selections. At one of the tables were these people, Ron and Sheri. They are owners of SPLATEZ, and to quote, "Home of the coolest switchplates on earth." We were talking and joking around for awhile, and of the pictures my dad took, the picture to the left seemed to fit best with the atmosphere at this table. I got a Spider-man switchplate there, which was great, because currently, I don't have one. Now I'll have the coolest switchplate to cover the gap in the wall holding wires. Also while there, we visited another booth. The guy's name was Brian Bennion (sp.), and he used to own Top Flight Comics. After talking for awhile, and my dad purchasing some comics, Brian asked if I was missing any comics for my Amazing Spider-man Collection, as that was one of the topics in our conversation. So I picked out a few and he added them in the deal my dad was making, for free. Thanks Brian!

To the left is the 2nd Prize, which was the book that Leo CArrillo wrote, 'The California I Love'. You can pick this up at the Gift Store at the front of the Ranch, if YOU haven't read it before!
Now I want to mention Charles Balteria, who is the face and voice of this Leo Carrillo Film Festival for those that attend. 
BTW, the Cisco Kid episode on Friday Night was titled 'Haven For Heavies' - (TV episode 1951 #1.20). I kept looking at the female lead in the episode, and did she look familar, even though she was in western garb! Turned out she was Phyllis Coates...YES, That Phyllis Coates! 
•Sept. 24 – Honululu Lu (1940) run time: 70 minutes. Upon arriving in Hawaii with Don Esteban Cordoba (Leo Carrillo), Consuelo Cordoba (Lupe Velez) finds herslef in a risque nighclub and due to her involvement with a group of sailors has a chance to become a beauty queen. Starring: Leo Carrillo, Lupe Velez and Bruce Bennett.

As I mentioned in last week's blog, this week was going to be 'Hot Dog Week' at the Cabana where they serve the food, drinks, and snacks! 
The three 'Opportunity Drawing' prizes looked pretty good again, so I opted to take photos of all three. 
I'm going to skip showing the 2nd Runner Up Prize, bu to the the left was last night's Grand Prize...Which included a Cisco Kid Episode Guide! 
•Sept. 10 – Sin Town (1942) run time: 73 minutes. After being conned himself into buying a bunch of dry oil wells, conman Duke decides to lead the town's businessmen in an effort to take the law into their own hands. When his plan backfires, Duke finds himself at the mercy of the town. Starring: Leo Carrillo, Constance Bennett, and Broderick Crawford.
And a standout as 'Laura Kirby', was Anne Gwynne, as seen to the left in a Scene Card! 
•Sept. 17 – Lillian Russell (1940) run time; 127 minutes. Closed captioning will be available for this film. 
I posted a note about this in last week's blog, but want to mention it again, as it Big News for the Ranch. Two weeks ago, I was contacted by a Facebook Friend, Gerry Streff, an archivist with the the City of Carlsbad, who after seeing my earlier Thursday blog post about this year's Film Season, sent me the following link. 
I'll be posting more pics from this Exhibit, which is titled - 'Leo Carrillo: His Life and Legacy' in the weeks to follow, for those of YOU that are too far away to visit right now...!
