Michael D Hamersky On Comics Suggests That YOU 'Like'...
 His Facebook Fan Page!

TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #3769 -   I've been adding several new photos and a couple new photo albums to my Facebook Fan Page, Michael D Hamersky On Comics yesterday and today.

I just realized that I haven't mentioned my Facebook Fan Page as a 'topic' for this Blog for several months... And since it is the first week of the New Year, I thought I would post this special invitation for you to stop in and click 'Like' on the 'Like' option link!

The link to go to the page and 'Like' it is at:  Michael D Hamersky On Comics.

It is my Facebook 'fan page', as my Facebook 'group page' was discontinued at the end of the 2012 year.

My Facebook 'member' page is pretty much maxed out at the 5,000 Facebook 'friends' that I can have as a top limit, so the 'Fan Page' was started to center on Comics / Comics Films / Comics History, etc.

Since you are reading this blog right now, I'm sure you have some interest in comic books, and I know you will enjoy reading and 'participating' at my Facebook Fan Page.

So I suggest... Do it now!

Thanks!

~ Michael

The Waking: Dreams End

A TPB
From Zenescope Entertainment

 alt=

TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #3768 -   It's the 4th day of the New Year... And would you believe its the 3rd publication from Zenescope Entertainment that I've review blogged this year already?!

The item being reviewed today is the TPB for 'The Waking: Dreams End', which has been compiled from a four issue comic book series into this trade paperback (TPB).

What's this story about?

"Murder has become practically extinct in a world armed with the knowledge that those who are murdered will return from the dead to take the loves of those guilty. But within a new world comes a new kind of killer. And he must be stopped! From the writer and creator of the Wonderland trilogy and FLY comes a return to the horror that never sleeps."

The above brief synopsis doesn't do justice to the TPB.

I'm almost totally immersed in this horror comics series when reading it.

The art is pretty darn good also, and the colors are dark, keeping the horrorific mood.

This is a pretty good comic book mini-series to compile into a TPB.

The additions of the variant comic book covers for this four issue series is a plus that is added into this compilation at the end.

My only semi-negative on this second series of 'The Waking', is that it is a second series, and I haven't read the first series.  Not doing so kind of left me out on what had gone on earlier, and I felt that not reading the first series left me out of fully enjoying this second series.

Because of that, I'm downgrading my comic book grading scoring.

I'm giving this TPB a Very Fine / Very Fine Plus (VF/VF+) 8.25 out of a possible 10.0 comic book grading scale. Which is still a pretty good grade...

You can find this at most comic book shops, or from the Zenescope Entertainment web site.

As an afterthought, I would suggest taking a look at 'The Theater', the TPB that I review blogged yesterday, also written by Raven Gregory, at blog #3767.  That I gave a Near Mint (NM) 9.4 as a comic book grade.

Perhaps reading the first volume of 'The Waking' would have made me appreciate 'The Waking: Dreams End' a little more...?!

~ Michael

The Theater

A TPB
From Zenescope Entertainment

TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #3767 -   It's the 3rd day of the New Year... And it is also going to be the 2nd review blog of a Zenescope Entertainment publication for 2013.

The item reviewed is the TPB for 'The Theater', which has been compiled from a five issue comic book series into this trade paperback.

What's this story about?

"In a quiet New Jersey town there sits a small, old-fashioned movie theater. But this unassuming theater holds a deep dark secret, one that threatens the lives of anyone who dares enter it. An when an unsuspecting couple decides to visit the old movie house to watch some horror films, they soon will find that something full of horror is also watching them. From the writer of the Wonderland trilogy and The Waking comes a whole new world of fear unlike any that has been seen before! Don't miss the brand new horror series unlike any you have read before."

The above wrap up of this TPB seems to be a familiar one... but the writer, Raven Gregory, does an outstanding job in presenting this series!

I'm totally surprised at the twists and turns in this horror comics series.

The art is pretty darn good also, and the colors are vivid.

This is a good mini-series to compile into a TPB.

The additions of the variant comic book covers for this five issue series is a plus that is added into this compilation, at the back of the book.

I'm giving this TPB a Near Mint (NM) 9.4 out of a possible 10.0 comic book grading scale.

You can find this at most comic book shops, or from the Zenescope Entertainment web site.

It is a good read to start out your brand new 2013 year with!

The Story Of All Of Us...
Mankind
Volume One

From the History Channel &
Zenescope Entertainment

TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #3766 -   It's the 2nd day of the New Year... And it is also my first review blog for 2013.

The item reviewed is the TPB for 'The Story Of All Of Us - Mankind - Volume One' from the History Channel and Zenescope Entertainment.

I'll be honest about this... I haven't seen the TV series that this TPB is based on.

However, the presentation as a TPB from the comic books previously published is a swell one!

What's this story about?

"From the producers of America the Story of Us comes the epic tale of the rise of civilization. The 12-hour series spans the first flourishing of civilization in Mesopotamia through the discovery of America. Groundbreaking production techniques bring to life the greatest landmarks and milestones of human achievement. CGI rebuilds lost worlds; large scale reenactments replay critical battles; innovative use of interactive maps dynamically illustrates the key factors that gave rise to civilization across the globe. MANKIND: The Story of All of Us emphasizes the simultaneity of the human adventure — how ancient Egypt thrived while Stonehenge was being built; China was at its zenith while Europe was plunged into the Dark Ages. HISTORY captures the danger, action, struggle, heroism, and adrenaline of MANKIND: The Story of All of Us!"

The above wrap up of this TPB seems to be a little overwhelming at first.  But wait... This is just Volume One!

And the storylines are ones that are of interest to those that have any interest in History.

True, the stories are a little brief, but remember that these stories were first published in comic book format, and compiled into this TPB (trade paperback).

I for one found this first volume of the series to be a very good read.  Plus the art is pretty darn good as well!

I'm giving this TPB a Very Fine / Near Mint (VF/NM) 9.0 out of a possible 10.0 comic book grading scale.

You can find this at most comic book shops, or from the Zenescope Entertainment web site.

It is a good read to start out your brand new 2013 year with!

Happy New Year 2013!

Wishes All of You...
A Happy New Year!

TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #3765 -   Well... We stayed up last night to watch both FOX & CNN ring in the New Year!

We also celebrated with champagne and limoncello drinks, and I feel none the worse for wear this morning!

Starting to watch the Rose Parade, kind of sad we don't get the KTLA channel 5 program here in San Diego any more... It's the only parade airing that doesn't break away to commercials...

I'll also be back to listing comics & other items in my online comic book shop during the parade / the day, as eBay has a promotional listing going on right now that ends tomorrow.

The above photo is a picture of Tina and myself at the Wynn Hotel / Casino in Las Vegas that we visited during Christmas Week.

We both want to wish all of you a 'Happy New Year'!

Hope your 2013 will be the year you want it to be!

~ Michael
