TODAY'S FEATURETTE:

One of the reasons that I personally enjoy going to Free Comic Book Day,  (FCBD), each year is because of the comics that I am exposed to that I probably wouldn't be buying as a regular reader of comics.  Sometimes publishers have to give a 'preview' to get their product in front of the public's eyes. After all, there is so much out there now from independent publishers, that this is truly the '2nd Golden Age of Comics'!

To tie in with this blog's "Main Feature", I am presenting here another of the comic book creators that I met at the 2009 Comic Con International: San Diego.

That would be Andre L Batts, as shown below:

I met Andre briefly on 'Preview Night' at the Comic Con, but he did not have a 'press kit' or any preview copies of his works, so I have not blogged about him before this.

As part of my year end 2009 / beginning 2010 blogs, I have been posting more of these type of topics in the 'Featurette' section, and plan to post more.

I've taken a look at his web site and am re-printing here just a bit of what is on there about him and Urban Style Comics for this 'Featurette' section:

"My purpose as Editor of Urban Style Comics and creator/artist for Dreadlocks was to bring forth an urban comic book hero that would stand as a leader. My primary task was to educate from a different perspective. Thus, entertaining the naked eye with imagery that reflects the urban cities across America’s ghettos in a positive manner minus all the negativity that swarms us daily. I created Dreadlocks as a blind superhuman in order to establish that true righteousness is established from within. Dreadlocks follows an ancient order of Egypt known as Ma’at which means truth, order and righteousness. He bears a cross on his chest that is called an ankh which symbolizes true divine life and eternal life. He was created as a symbol of a culture that has been lost through slavery, time, and increasing fallacies."

Again, I've not read any of the actual published works at this time, but saw enough there to want to mention Andre and his web site here today for You to follow up on:

My thanks to Andre for stopping long enough to chat with me and pose for the above photo on the busy 'Preview Night' at the Comic Con International: San Diego.

BTW, if you are a comics creator, (writer, penciler, inker, colorist, letterer, etc.), feel free to contact me regarding YOUR works!

I've made a special blog post about: "How To Best Submit YOUR Publication For Possible Review!" for those creators that would like to possibly have their publications mentioned or reviewed, which could either be published in the 'Main Feature' or 'Featurette' sections.
