TODAY'S FEATURETTE:

At the top of this blog post, in the "Main Feature" section, I mentioned that Ronald Reagan had been seen on comic book covers in the past, before the "Reagan's Raiders" limited series that I was blogging about.

In the above example I had copies of the comics, and could make a scan if I wanted and use it to illustrate my blog post if I couldn't find another illo to use.

But what about comic book issues that I don't have?

Well, that is where the GCD comes into play a lot!

If I don't have a copy of the comic book I am blogging about, and I know the title and the issue number... then it is usually pretty easy to go to:

http://www.comics.org/

and type in the title of the comic book.

The hardest part in finding a comic book is to NOT know the title of the comic book, because I have to search longer for it.

For example, there are 1,372 issues to the Dell Four Color Comics series, that ran from 1942 to 1962.  And the GCD has covers to all but 4 of them!

However, the 'titles' of the comics are not indexed. As the real title of the comic book series is just that:  Four Color Comics!

So you have to do some additional digging before coming up with a cover to use. PLUS you have to know if there is truly a comic book that was made of what you are looking for a photo of!

Pictured below is just one of the other comic books that Ronald Reagan was featured on:

My thanks to the folks at the Grand Comics Database who started this project years ago, AND... here's the most important part, had an 'upgrade' to their format last year.  It is so much easier to use now!

So now that I've given away "my secret" as to how I obtain several of the comic book covers I use in this Blog... be sure to check there when you are looking for a comic book cover.

And if You have one of the four Four Color Comics that are 'missing' check the folks out at the GCD to see how you can assist them in adding it!

Talking about comics: if YOU are a comics creator, (writer, penciler, inker, colorist, letterer, etc.), OR even a Comics / Magazine Publisher, feel free to contact me regarding YOUR works for a possible mention / review!

I've made a special blog post about: "How To Best Submit YOUR Publication For Possible Review!" for those creators / publishers that would like to possibly have their publications mentioned or reviewed, which could either be published in the 'Main Feature' or 'Featurette' sections.
