TODAY'S FEATURE - Blog #3163: Saturday I spent most of the day at the San Diego Quarterly Comic Con, (which is a new start-up con). Today, before I get back to blogging review blogs, I want to mention a comic book inker that I met there, Ryan Winn... What grabbed my attention at first was that his portfolio book was opened to the comic book page that is pictured at the above right. Well, being a Fantastic Four Fan since 1962, I couldn't help but stop and look at it closer! Ryan and I started talking further, and I ended up looking at his other comic book works that he had at his table. Of course one table wouldn't have everything he has done so far. Here's a link to his credits so far as listed in the GCD. Here's the link to his entry in the Comic Book Data Base. Ryan also has an entry in Wikipedia. I am glad that he had the Fantastic Four page opened on his table at this Con that got my attention! You can see more of Ryan's works and his blog at his own web site. Ryan also has a 12 page sketchbook for sale, which he is shown holding in the photo to the left. Pencils by Nelson Blake II, Tim Seely, Michael Broussard, and Mike Wieringo. Ryan is the inker on those pages. I would list his Facebook Fan Page here, but he hasn't started one yet. So you can contact him via his own web site as listed above. My thanks to Ryan Winn for taking the time to talk with me at this comic con, and to his wife Mia, who has her own web site with some really neat items that I will blog about in the future, as time and space permits. For those of YOU that haven't heard about this start up comic con that I met Ryan Winn above, it's a 'start-up' in the sense that the promoter, Paul Martinez, is re-starting a comic con that he used to run about 10 - 11 years ago when it ended its' original run. I used to set up at his earlier con, that would be held at the Scottish Rite Center here in the San Diego area, and it was a lot of fun doing so at that time! Here's a little promo about this comic con in its' new reincarnation. Please Note: the flyer to the left was for the November con, there was no flyer printed for the June con: Now known as the SAN DIEGO QUARTERLY COMIC CON, the comic book show held at SCOTTISH RITE EVENT CENTER has returned and it is now being held at the Boys and Girls Club of America (Ron Roberts Branch) in Linda Vista. It is being held on June 12th 2010 (Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and will have free admission for 14 and under. Admission is $5 for Adults. Receive $2 OFF at will-call by sending an email with your name to paul@sdquarterlycon.com and receive $3 off your admission at will-call. The special event at the Boys & Girls Club is located at 2230 E. Jewett Street, San Diego, CA 92111. This is a special popular arts event featuring a very large showroom filled with old & new comics, toys, action figures, sci-fi and fantasy merchandise, movie & tv memorabilia, anime, manga, trading cards, comic companies, artists and much, much more. For more Information call Paul Martinez (619) 381-8297 comicshow38@yahoo.com or paullsmartinezz@yahoo.com. I spent some time with Paul Martinez on Saturday about the revival of his earlier comic con, and what he is looking to do with this. This June 2010 show had experienced and well known comics industry people such as Batton Lash and Jackie Estrada, (as pictured below), as well as newcomers looking to make their big break in the business, such as Kev Whiting, whom I'm sure I'll be blogging sometime in the future! I'll be letting you know via my blog and at my own Facebook Comic Con | Make It So Marketing online exhibitor table of any upcoming show dates for this San Diego Quarterly Comic Con. In the meantime you can also keep updated via their Facebook Fan Page! My thanks to Ryan Winn, Mia Winn, Paul Martinez, Batton Lash, and Jackie Estrada, among others who I met at this Saturday comic con!
