TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #3700 - We are back from a Summer Vacation visiting Tina's family in South New Jersey! While there we both took in a tour of a few LCBS (Local Comic Book Shops) in the area, plus the Philadelphia Comic-Con that took place on Sunday, August 19th at the Ramada Philadelphia Airport in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. (Photo of Ramada is the 2nd from the left at the top of this blog post.) First, I want to thank the promoter of the comic con, Derek Woywood, who is pictured at the top right photo of this blog post. (Thanks, Derek!) Second, I want to mention 'my take' on this comic book show... To tell the truth, I was kind of excited to be able to see Silver Age artist, Herb Trimpe, back on the East Coast. He and Dan Nokes were the 'Special Guests' that were advertised for this comic book show, as seen in the flyer to the left... However, Herb had car trouble the morning of the show, and was not able to attend... At least by the time we left at 12:45 PM... So instead we saw Dan Nokes sketching at his table, and also Paris Cullins, who stopped long enough to introduce himself and have photos taken with a few of his friends. (Those photos and the rest can be seen at the special photo album hosted by my Facebook Fan Page, Michael D Hamersky On Comics.) The show was 4500 square feet in size, and had many comics dealers along with the two comic book special guests. We picked up a box size of comics that I hadn't seen out here on the West Coast for a while, and it has already arrived, so I'll be placing those up in my online comic book shop, ComicBooksCircus.com, pretty soon for sale. I found this 'comic-con' to be more a comic book show, as we call them here on the West Coast, but still had plenty of time to check out all the dealers' tables in the 2 & 1/2 hours that we attended this show. Additionally the entry fee was very reasonable! Only $3 for admission, and a $1 off with the flyer in hand at the ticket table. Plus, unlike several other 'comic cons' that I've attended in recent years... This is a true comic book show, not a 'pop culture' convention using the term 'comic con' in its name. The next Philadelphia Comic-Con is scheduled for Sunday, November 18th, from 10 AM to 4 PM at the same location, in Essington, PA. Here is the web site link for the Philadelphia Comic-Con. I don't see a Facebook fan page for the Con... According to its web site... This is 'Philadelphia's Longest Running Comic Convention'! After attending this one... I can see why. If you are in the Philly area, check it out! ~ Michael
