Michael D Hamersky On Comics Presents His Take On:

The Commander X All-Star Special #1!

 From The Nemo Publishing Group

TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #3730 -   I received this comic book in the mail recently.  It's titled: 'Commander X All-Star Special #1'!

What's this issue about?

"Comic Summary: Return to the golden age of high adventure with Commander X in three tales featuring giant monsters, robots, mystery and action! The Red Octopus and the Axis powers want super weapons from Atlantis. Can Commander X stop them? Commander X is part of the ongoing Capt'n Eli graphic novel series.

40 Page full color comic book featuring three Commander X adventure stories written and illustrated by Jay Piscopo: The Guardian of Tantarus, Allies, and Wake of the War-Beast."

Here's 'My Take' on the comic book:

Front Cover: This title's main character, Commander X, was familiar to me, because I have other comics from the Nemo Publishing Group that included him.  It is a striking front cover, which made me want to open the comic book to the...

Inside Front Cover:  A nice intro page... Showing that there will be three stories in this Special Issue.  With credits, and other important info.

Splash Page:  A nice retro looking pin-up page for the story titled: 'The Guardian of Tantarus'.

Interior Pages - 1st Story:  This  story takes place in Tibet in 1939. As I am also a fan of Indiana Jones, this story was right up my alley!  Commander X is sent into Tibet's snowy climate to stop the Red Octopus, who is working with the Nazis.  Their mission?  To trap the abominable snowman!  In this story, the Commander encounters Nazis, Tibetan monks and of course, the abominable snowman!

2nd Story:  This second story is called 'Allies' and recounts the first time that Commander X met the Sea Ghost, who was actually going by the name 'Sea Raider' during World War II.  The first splash page of the story has some great looking equipment, and all too soon the story is over!

But wait... There's a 3rd Story!   Titled: 'Wake of the War-Beast', starring Circe, Sorceress of the Sea!  It kind of reminded me of the old time 'Atlas Comics' stories, with the monsters, before the superheroes came in!

The final two pages are pin-ups, with the Inside Back Cover a 'house ad' for Nemo Toys.

The Back Cover is also a 'house ad', with a pinup of Commander X and Captain Midnight, being published in December 2012 from Moonstone and Nemo Publishing.

All in all... A pretty darn good read, IMO!

The story & art in the three stories are by the creator of Commander X, Jay Piscopo.

My comic book grade for this special issue is a Near Mint, (NM) 9.4 out of a possible 10.0 comic book grading scale!.

You can 'Like' the Facebook Fan Page for 'The Undersea Adventures of Capt'n Eli', which the Commander X belongs to that 'Universe'.

Also, you can order this book and others from Nemo Publishing at this link
