Stan Lee's Lightspeed was released earlier this year from the Studio of Anchor Bay. (January 9, 2007) The movie's Run Time is 88 minutes. The Storyline is as follows: After an accident, a government agent gains the ability of super-speed and goes after an old friend turned nemesis. Sounds like a comic book TV movie... right? We love Stan Lee but sorry to say.... This movie is really Bad! The DVD cover should have warned us as plastered on it is the following: "From STAN LEE, the Creator of X-MEN & SPIDER-MAN" and the Title of the Movie is: Stan Lee's LIGHTSPEED Thus unfortunately this movie is relying on Stan's many fans he has accumulated throughout the years to watch this movie because it has Stan's name on it. What makes a superhero a true SUPERHERO is a good villain. Sad to say the villain in this movie, Phyton, is a man who has transformed into a I just couldn't over the bad looking and terrible sounding villain. Add to that, the superhero shops at a sports store to obtain his outfit! The sales clerk gives a little of this and that and those to create an ensemble of a costume! The superpower looks good, (super speed), and Lightspeed can use his power against everyone except for the villain whom he cannot defeat. Why Not I ask?? I don't see that explained anywhere in the movie. Lightspeed just seems to run out of steam everytime he confronts Python! Jason Connery as Lightspeed is not believable. Nicole Eggert you might have some sympathy for if she wasn't supposed to be such a good soldier on the 'Ghost Squad' but then is so helpless against Python. Daniel Goddard is pitiful as the villain, terrible portrayal. Lee Majors has really fallen to play such a bad role in this movie. I wanted to like this movie, blogged about it coming out last January and April. But when I found this DVD for rental, I am so glad I didn't spend the money to buy it. I only watched it all the way through to create a review and a blog post about this DVD. Not Recommended! Even for the most fanatic of Stan Lee fans, sorry !! We are big fans of Stan's from the Marvel Comics that he wrote, and the upcoming TV show 'Who Wants To Be a Super-hero?' the second season. |
