New NBC TV Show:

'Life'

'Our Take'

A Review of the Pilot Episode!

We previewed the NBC TV Show Pilot Episode of this new Fall series. Here is 'Our Take', plus notes on this first of an ongoing series for this show.

One Paragraph Snyposis: 'Life' is a new 'cop show with a twist. The main character is a re-instated detective back on the police force AFTER serving twelve years in a federal maximum security for a crime he didn't commit. The why is shown at the end of the pilot, as the very large cash settlement he received for falsely being imprisoned has set him up for a much different 'life' style than the prison he had been serving time in!

(SPOILER WARNING: Don't read the below IF you don't want to know what happened!)

The show starts with the main character 'Charlies Crews' (played by Damian Lewis) being released from Pelican Bay Penitiary... a Federal Maximum Security Prison.

We see by the people being interviewed on camera that he has an ex-partner on the police force, an ex-wife, a business manager for all the money he recently received, a woman lawyer, etc. etc...

Less than ten minutes into the show, Tina says 'this is stupid'...

Twelve minutes into the show, Tina says 'this is really stupid'...

Charlie is driving a very fast new luxury car... we see him stop his ex-wife's new husband for a traffic violation... this doesn't endear him to either Tina or me, not very smart...

Since Charlie has been behind bars for twelve years, he doesn't know what an 'IM' is so he asks his new detective partner (Sarah Shahi) what that is. He asks other questions as the show goes on, he hadn't known about 'camera phones' etc... so much technology has come in since he was incarcerated.

Lt. Davis, the department supervisor is trying to get Crews' new partner to talk about Crews' activities, she is trying to get Crews removed from duty.

Another 'this is dumb; comment from Tina... but I keep the DVD Preview Disk playing...

Cut to Crews' new mansion bought with part of the settlement money... his business manager 'Googles' himself, and then Crews wants himself 'Googled'. He sees multiple entries on himself, with the big one being 'Got Framed? 12 Years For A Crime He Did Not Commit'. Quotes more Zen philosphy... etc...

At this point Tina argues that anyone that spends that amount of time in prison would not come out being such a 'goofball', reading Zen or not!

It appears that his new partner is 'on the program', probably drugs as the 'coke' in the next arrest gets all over her, and she has to immediately take a shower at the suspect's apartment as it affects her immediately!

We next see more quotes from Zen... and I also am tiring of this show, but sticking it out...

At the very end we see why he apparently rejoined the police force, his new mansion has a room with a wall covered in photos of all the persons he is figuring out had something to do with his wrongly being convicted.... he is trying to figure out why and who did this to him!

At last something promising for this new series.... but it is too late for us, Tina says in finality for her, that she doesn't understand why the producers would have such a stupid premise. The main character is a happy go lucky guy, loving life, even tho he lost his life for 12 years, lost his wife, c'mon she says this is so stupid!!

Well, it's Thumbs Down for her on this new show

For me it's not worth staying up for at 10-11pm Wednesday nights, nor worth taping... it took too long to show any possiblity of getting interested in this show beyond the pilot...

One note though, I had not noticed Sarah Shahi before, so I 'googled' her in the 'images' link. She is really good looking, but this episode didn't bring that aspect out in her, nor any endearing acting ability that would bring me back for more.

'The Bionic Woman'

TV Show Preview Program

 At The SDCC  07-28-07 Saturday

From 10:15 Am to 11:15 Am in Ballroom 20

At the San Diego Convention Center

We saw this Program and the 'World Premiere' of the new NBC TV Show of 'The Bionic Woman' at the July San Diego Comic Con International. We were told that we were the first audience to see it outside of the studio!

Plus we saw the following persons on the program's panel: Michelle Ryan, David Eick, Glen Morgan, Jason Smilovic, Katee Sackhoff and others involved with the new show.

The pilot was well received by the audience we were in. Here is 'Our Take' on the show:

Just Click this Link!

We blog posted about what the program would be about prior to the Comic Con:

Following are some Program Panel Pictures:

Shown at the left side of the program panel, (left to right), are Michelle Ryan, David Eick, and Glen Morgan.  Michelle came across as being ready for the role and handled the fans' questions well. David had several comments to make, and Glen had input as well.

On the right side of the panel were (l to r) Jason Smilovic, M. S. (sp?), and Katee Sackhoff.  Jason had great input, and Katee was 'hot' in walking in to her seat! She is the previous 'bionic woman' whose fights with Michelle later in the pilot episode were the talk of the audience!

Of all the cast, Katee Sackhoff made the biggest splash with the World Premiere audience!  Of course villains usually get the best roles!  But Katee went over the top in badness in the pilot episode!

Whip-Snap !

From the Sci-Fi Channel TV Show

Who Wants To Be A Superhero?

Season Two

'My Take' On This Super-Hero !

This is 'My Take' on One of the Ten Contestants from this SCI-FI Channel Mini-Series that was seen on Thursday nights at 9 p.m. this summer!

The latest season ended on September 7th! Tina and I are looking forward to a Season 3!

For those new to our blog, we have been watching this show since the Preview of it at the San Diego Comic Con International in July 2006, watched the full First season, caught the Preview at the 2007 SDCC and just finished viewing the Grand Finale of the Second Season this past week!

Why?  Because this is an actual fun and entertaining reality show!

Why choose Whip-Snap to be my first singled out superhero to review from Season 2?

Because her 'After-Show' moments continued what I saw in her during the televised moments in the show.

Whip-Snap's secret identity is that of Paula Thomas, in real life a Security Officer, age approx 31.

An interesting note is that she worked with the 'Iron Enforcer' in real life before he competed in Season One of this same Show!

Earlier in her life she idolized 'Cleopatra Jones', who she called the first African-American Superhero, while being interviewed on Feedback's 'After Show' shown on the Sci-Fi web site.

She thought her revised costume that Stan had made for her made her feel 'sexy'.

The thing that bothered both Tina and myself during the episodes she was on, was that Whip-Snap would tend to cry.... cry too often as a matter of fact.

She even cried in her secret identity on the After Show!

That is why I chose her to feature first... she looked 'Hot' in a tough sort of way, even better looking after her costume revision, and she performed well in the missions. So what was it that just didn't come across well to me?

It's just that even tho she looked tough, she cried too often as a superhero.... superheroes just don't cry!

I am surprised that Stan kept her as long as he did...

Whip-Snap's Catch Phrase was great:  "I'll whip you to unconsciousness and snap you back into reality!".

Whip-Snap's super-powers were pretty good too:   She gets her powers from her whip, which she wields with pinpoint accuracy! In severe circumstances, she can turn her foes to dust!  She possesses increased flexibility and stamina. Has a bond with Mother Earth and derives special strength from the warmth of the planet!

IMHO Whip-Snap has two good costumes, botgh her own and the revised, had a good catch phrase, and actually pretty good super powers.  She just didn't go through the episodes with super-heroic stamina because of her continual crying on camera!

Good luck to her in her secret identity!

Thanks for reading this popular culture - comics - comic books blog post and check back with us for some after show thoughts on Season 2 in the near future!

We Just Miss It!  How 'bout You?

'Lost' TV Show

05-23-07

2 Hour Season Finale

WARNING!  Repeated Viewing of this blog post may lead to your missing 'Lost' also!!!!

Opening Shot - Bearded Jack on Oceanic Flight that is landing in 20 minutes. Cut to Jack on a bridge, makes a cell phone call, gets out of vehichle, standing on a bridge, possibly to jump and we hear another vehichle behind him slamming into somtething. Tina wonders why Jack is bearded in this scene(?).

Cut to the Island's beach where everyone is packing and leaving except for the three staying behind to trap the others that are coming!

Those three are Sayid, Bernard and Jin. They are to shoot the dynamite that is hidden in the tents to kill the others that are expected to show up soon.

Cut to the 'Looking Glass', the underwater tank outpost, where Charlie has been captured. Two of the others, Greta and Bonnie hurt him as they interogate him.

The 'Others' group attacking the beach camp come in. Three tents are marked for them to kidnap the pregnant women. A gun battle ensues. Only two of the dynamite traps are set off, the third fails to explode.  Tom of the Others reports in to Ben. Seven of the Others were killed during the gunbattle. Bernard under duress tells Tom where the Lost group had gone. Tina thought this would be highly unlikely as Bernard's wife was with that group!

Cut to Ben's group - Ben plans to go to radio tower. Richard to take remainder of Others to the temple.

Lost Group - Kate argues with Sawyer about going back for Sayid's group.

Desmond wakes up on boat just before Michail shoots at him. He dives into water and reaches Charlie being held captive.

Michail scuba dives to Looking Glass, finds out that the two Others are there, (Greta and Bonnie), and that Ben has lied to him and the Others.

Locke wakes up in pit where Dharma group were thrown in to finish dying. Walt appears to him at top of pit.

Ben and Alex intercept Jack's group an hour away from the radio tower. Ben tells Jack that the woman that parachuted onto island is a bad person. If Jack uses the phone she brought, her people will come and kill all the Others and Jack's Lost Group. Ben orders Tom to kill Jin, Bernard and Sayid if he doesn't call back in one minute.  Jack says no, we hear shots over the walkie talkie Ben is holding. Jack proceeds to beat Ben up.

Michail shoots Greta and Bonnie, Desmond spear guns Michail... Bonnie tells Charlie the code is the Beach Boys 'Good Vibrations' song.

Ben tells Alex the Frenchwoman is her mother.

Hurley attacks the camp with the old VW van, knocking down one Other, while Sayid kills the second Other with his feet. Tom is left alone. Tome gives up, but Sawyer shoots him for taking Walt off the raft like he had promised earlier.

Charlie puts in code, then received incoming transmission from Penny. She says she doesn't know a Naomi. Charlie figures out what that means, just as Michail hurls a grenade from outside the 'Looking Glass'. With water pouring in, Charlie writes on his hand, 'Not Penny's Boat' which Desmond sees thru the glass separating him and Charlie.  Charlie makes the sign of the cross and drowns.

Now the jamming signal is off, but Naomi still can't use phone. French Woman's broadcast message is interferring.

Ben is tied to tree outside of radio tower. Naomi tries to use the phone. Ben says Naomi making that call is the beginning of the end!

Locke shows up and throws his knife into Naomi's back.
Jack answers the incoming call, figuring Locke won't kill him. Jack is thinking that answering call will lead to his group being rescued.
Flashback again to bearded Jack... except it's NOT a flashback... It's in the future!!!  Jack was calling Kate on his cell phone. Kat and Jack have survived... Oceanic has given them Gold Passes to fly anywhere Oceans has flights.
Tina called it, (that the person Jack was calling was Kate). But who was in the coffin at the funeral home, why is Jack's dad considered to be alive at hospital that Jack works at...
THIS WAS A COOL ENDING!  Best season finale CLIFFHANGER this past season on TV !

Fall Preview: Journeyman - NBC TV Show

New NBC TV Show:

'Journeyman'

'Our Take'

A Review of Pilot Episode of New TV Show!

We previewed the NBC TV Show Pilot Episode of this new Fall series. Here is 'Our Take', plus notes on this first of an ongoing series for this show.

One Sentence Snyposis: 'Journeyman is a time travel show, and has twists and turns in it as one man attempts to find out why he is being moved back and forth in time and acts upon it'.

(SPOILER WARNING: Don't read the below IF you don't want to know what happened!)

The show starts in San Francisco, California. We see a man named Dan who works at a newspaper office....

He leaves the office to get a ring for his wife's, (Katie), wedding anniversary present, ...there is a white flash of light....

We find Dan walking into a restaurant where the crowd inside is cheering a 49er's win, but it is a win from eight years ago???!!!

Dan thinks this is strange, but doesn't have much time to think about it as there is another white flash of light....

Dan now wakes up in Golden Gate Park... it's 1987! We can tell it's in the 1980's because Bryant Gumble is on the Today Show on a TV set before a current newspaper is found by Dan.

Dan next saves a man's life, (Neal Gaines), then there is another flash of light...

Dan is back to the present, his wife is p.o.'d at him, he's been gone for two days! Hardly there and another flash of light.. back to the past, where he runs into Neal Gaines again!

Back to the present, it's time for his friends and family to do an 'Intervention', as it appears that Dan has had abuse problems in the past, and everyone thinks he is relapsing into either drugs or some other intoxication as he keeps dropping out of sight and reappearing with weird time travel stories...

Dan's brother is a cop and so brings him to the police station. He could be charged for a felony hit and run...Is he having psychotic breaks from reality???

Still with me?  This is one weird show! There are more flashes here and there, he is revisiting his past now, and seeing his first fiancee, (Livia Beale), who died on an airplane crash before they got married, AND also seeing his present day wife, who was his brother's girlfriend first!

This episode is confusing even for Tina, who loves shows like Masterpiece Theater and other mystery shows and too often figures out the ending early...

This ending is a little twisted... appears he corrects what once went wrong in time... and also thankfully proves to his present day wife that he really is going back in time, and not going psychotic! Watch the show to see how he does that!

Tina thinks this is a cool concept for a show, she likes time travel movies etc...

I personally liked Quantum Leap a lot more, but then again I really liked Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell from the very start! They had a GREAT chemistry between them. These actors are not so instantly likeable, but we will tune in for the second show and give it a try!

As Tina said to me, "this is Quantum Leap for the New Millenium' !

We'll see.... (I'm not too sure about that)... and keep you updated with 'Our Take' on the series....

Thanks for viewing this pop culture / comic book blog post.... and feel free to post your comment below! This blog post is written for the 'mainstream' blog post reader as well as the pop culture collector!
