On The Occult Files of Dr. Spektor!

Who was Doctor Spektor you ask?

He was a fictional comic book character that appeared in Western Publishing's Gold Key Comics!

Dr Spektor was co-created by the writer Donald Glut and artist Dan Spiegle.

Dr. Spektor's first appearance was in Mystery Comics Digest #5 published in July 1972.

After that first sucessfull appearance, which was only a 10 page story, Dr. Spektor was spun off into his own title, 'The Occult Files of Doctor Spektor'.

His series ran for 25 issues  from May 1973 to May 1982.

Since comic book readership was thought to 'turn over' every 5-6 years the final issue was a reprint of #1.

Another good Gold Key artist, Jesse Santos, had earlier replaced Speigle as the artist on the series, and stayed there for the end of the print run.

Additionally Dr. Spektor appeared in four issues of Gold Key's 'Spine-Tingling Tales'.

In that series he provided  narration for the stories within the comic book.

Dr. Spektor also appeared in one issue of Gold Key Spotlight, issue #8 which we listed tonight for auction, see top left photo.

This was published in August 1977, which unfortunately was his last original appearance in the Gold Key Comics Universe!

Please note that we have a few issues left from a collection we picked up, including one that was high grade enough for CGC grading.

It's A Bird, It's A Plane... No, It's Supergirl!

Helen Slater,(Supergirl), Will Be Signing Autographs at the Los Angeles Comic Book and Science Fiction Convention from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm on September 23rd, 2007.

The LA Convention is held at the Shrine Auditorium. For more info including address, check their web site at comicbookscifi.com .

For those that need an introduction to Helen: Helen Slater was the Star of the SUPERGIRL Movie... Which Was Based on the Comic Book Title.

Helen, born in 1963, was the star of the 1984 theatrical movie 'Supergirl'.

She is known as an actress and a singer-songwriter. Helen attended Manhattan's School of Performing Arts, graduating in 1982.

Within months of her graduating, she attended auditions for an upcoming spin-off movie of the famous Superman (1978) film franchise. The film was to be shot in the United Kingdom at the Pinewood studios, where the first Superman films were filmed.

After being the first to audition for the Supergirl role she won it. Although the Supergirl film received mixed reviews at its opening, most critics were impressed with her abilities to perform the role. In fact, most critics thought that she did a better job at keeping her secret identity, (a mousy school girl), than Christopher Reeve did as Clark Kent!

Personally, I just couldn't get into this movie when I first saw it. Marc McClure reprised his role as Jimmy Olsen in this film as he had in Superman, but something was missing.... maybe Superman in a cameo??

Faye Dunaway was over the top as the primary villain in the movie, and the movie did not pull good reviews or box office money. The movie is technically of the same series that Christopher Reeves did as Superman from 1978 -1987 but is usually not included in any boxed sets of the movies.

Survivor In The 15th Season!

(Due to the NEW 'squeezed' format eBay Blogs is now served in, our TV Show posts will be shorter in length so as to not scroll down forever!)

Before we watched the 15th Season Premiere Show we caught Jeff Probst on the Glen Beck Show!

Jeff agrees that his job is one of the best and most fun on TV! And he is pleased that Last Season it was still in the Top 12 Shows on TV!

I am going to skip all the scenes that happened this premiere episode, due to the cramped space allowed here now.

Instead I am going to write about the players.

For a change, Tina thought that the first episode portrayed the players in enough spots that she could take an instant dislike or like to them!

Usually the names and faces are a blur until a few episodes into the season!

Tina dislikes Courtney already. She also says the poker player is a an idiot because he told Todd that he though Todd was 'devious'.

Tina likes the religious broadcaster who stood up for her beliefs.

I like the 'Red' team more than the 'Yellow' team as a unit so far. However no standouts for me in the first episode.

It was actually nice to hear the first player who was voted out to voice his displeasure by saying 'DAMN!!!' when he heard the verdict. that was a nice change of pace! Showed that he had invested himself in the game!

Stay 'tooned' with us for more episode adventures as the season goes by...

THE DOOM PATROL !

(Due to the NEW 'squeezed' format eBay Blogs is now served in, our posts will be shorter in length so as to not scroll down forever!)

We have just listed our 'DOOM PATROL' Comics in a 'Fixed Price' Core Listing Format for Buyers!

The Doom Patrol were first featured in the DC Comic book title 'My Greatest Adventure' issue #80, dated June of 1963.

The strip was popular and soon took over the comic book title with issue #86, shown to the top left.  And again with a 'Talking Gorilla' Cover to kick off the new title change!

The creators of the strip were Bob Haney and Arnold Drake, (writers), and Bruno Premiani, (artist).

The Doom Patrol has had several incarnations since then.

Growing up during the Silver Age of Comics, my favorite team was the first one by the above named creators.

Who or what were the Doom Patrol? Well the first Doom Patrol consisted of super-powered 'misfits', whose "gifts" caused them alienation and trauma. Which was unusual in a DC Comic Book at the time.  Marvel Comics seemed to have that 'angst' down pat while DC didn't have any...

When the Doom Patrol Comic Book was cancelled in 1968, writer Arnold Drake killed the first team off in the final issue, Doom Patrol #121 (September-October 1968).

After that I just didn't get into the newer incarnations, as Robotman was the only recognizable character in later series.

Anyway, if you want to see more of the Doom Patrol, just click the top left cover to see what issues we currently have for sale, and enjoy!!

THE FLASH !

(Due to the NEW 'squeezed' format eBay Blogs is now served in, our posts will be shorter in length so as to not scroll down forever!)

We have just listed our 'Flash' Comics in a 'Fixed Price' Core Listing Format for Buyers!

The Flash shown to the top left is the 'second incarnation' of the Flash superhero in DC Comics.

This Flash is generally considered to be the FIRST super-hero of the Silver Age of comic books as he appeared in Showcase #4 for DC Comics!

Additionally this superhero has remained one of DC‘s most popular superheroes ever since the re-introduction in 1956.

However Barry Allen as the Flash has been replaced by Wally West, (who was once known as Kid Flash!).

For those that enjoyed 'The Flash' TV Show in the early 1990's it was the Barry Allen version that was portrayed as the Flash.

That was a good show IMHO, although it lasted but one season!

I personally only had interest in the Silver Age Flash, as I was basically a 'Marvel Zombie' during my early collecting days.

Barry Allen was the Flash for me, and the issues we have for sale are from that time period.

Just click the top left cover to see what issues we currently have for sale, and enjoy!!
