Well, Then

Captain Action

Is Ready For YOU!

Say...... Wasn't he a 'doll' ????!

No, not a 'doll', he was an 'action figure'!

Plus a comic book series!!

Captain Action was created in 1966 and came with separate 'action' costumes.

You could 'dress' him.... strike that!  You could 'Outfit' him in superhero costumes like Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Aquaman, the Lone Ranger (???), Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers, Sgt Fury and even like 'Captain America'.

WOW !! He was such an immediate hit that DC Comics licensed the character and had 5 issues published before the fad ended!  DC Comics used Wally Wood, Gil Kane, and Jim Shooter to work on the comic book feature.

Strange thing is, the toy only lasted for 2 1/2 years, was just a fad, and in competition with the G.I. Joe line... Today a 'Captain Action' with the Spider-Man costume, MIB (Mint In Box) would fetch upwards of $15,000.00 !

And to think that your mother probably threw yours out with the other 'childish' toys when you grew up!

My Favorite Movie ??

I keep running across blog posts asking 'What's Your Favorite Movie?'

Well, I'll tell you, I usually stop and put in my favorite(s), which believe it or not.... ARE NOT COMIC BOOK MOVIES!

Probably because the comic book movies haven't stood the test of time yet for me!

A 'Favorite Movie' for me is where you stop everything to watch it again, as it tugs at you to stop and join it as an 'old friend'.

My current favorites, where if flipping thru the channels of our TV Set, will make me stop and pick up where ever it is in the story line, are:

'Somewhere In Time' with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour,

AND

'The Quiet Man' with John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara.

One movie, that isn't shown as much any more is the Audie Murphy War Biography 'To Hell and Back'.  THAT Movie used to be up there as My Favorite because again, I would stop and watch it play every time I caught it accidentally!

Life NBC TV Show Premieres Tonight!

New NBC TV Show:

'Life'

'Our Take'  - A Review of the Pilot Episode!

This is a 'repost' for tonite's season premiere episode as I see that several blog readers are looking at our prior post!

We previewed the NBC TV Show Pilot Episode of this new Fall series. Here is 'Our Take', plus notes on this first of an ongoing series for this show.

One Paragraph Snyposis: 'Life' is a new 'cop show with a twist. The main character is a re-instated detective back on the police force AFTER serving twelve years in a federal maximum security for a crime he didn't commit. The why is shown at the end of the pilot, as the very large cash settlement he received for falsely being imprisoned has set him up for a much different 'life' style than the prison he had been serving time in!

(SPOILER WARNING: Don't read the below IF you don't want to know what happened!)

The show starts with the main character 'Charlies Crews' (played by Damian Lewis) being released from Pelican Bay Penitiary... a Federal Maximum Security Prison.

We see by the people being interviewed on camera that he has an ex-partner on the police force, an ex-wife, a business manager for all the money he recently received, a woman lawyer, etc. etc...

Less than ten minutes into the show, Tina says 'this is stupid'...

Twelve minutes into the show, Tina says 'this is really stupid'...

Charlie is driving a very fast new luxury car... we see him stop his ex-wife's new husband for a traffic violation... this doesn't endear him to either Tina or me, not very smart...

Since Charlie has been behind bars for twelve years, he doesn't know what an 'IM' is so he asks his new detective partner (Sarah Shahi) what that is. He asks other questions as the show goes on, he hadn't known about 'camera phones' etc... so much technology has come in since he was incarcerated.

Lt. Davis, the department supervisor is trying to get Crews' new partner to talk about Crews' activities, she is trying to get Crews removed from duty.

Another 'this is dumb; comment from Tina... but I keep the DVD Preview Disk playing...

Cut to Crews' new mansion bought with part of the settlement money... his business manager 'Googles' himself, and then Crews wants himself 'Googled'. He sees multiple entries on himself, with the big one being 'Got Framed? 12 Years For A Crime He Did Not Commit'. Quotes more Zen philosphy... etc...

At this point Tina argues that anyone that spends that amount of time in prison would not come out being such a 'goofball', reading Zen or not!

It appears that his new partner is 'on the program', probably drugs as the 'coke' in the next arrest gets all over her, and she has to immediately take a shower at the suspect's apartment as it affects her immediately!

(...Continued top of next column!)

We next see more quotes from Zen... and I also am tiring of this show, but sticking it out...

At the very end we see why he apparently rejoined the police force, his new mansion has a room with a wall covered in photos of all the persons he is figuring out had something to do with his wrongly being convicted.... he is trying to figure out why and who did this to him!

At last something promising for this new series.... but it is too late for us, Tina says in finality for her, that she doesn't understand why the producers would have such a stupid premise. The main character is a happy go lucky guy, loving life, even tho he lost his life for 12 years, lost his wife, c'mon she says this is so stupid!!

Well, it's Thumbs Down for her on this new show

For me it's not worth staying up for at 10-11pm Wednesday nights, nor worth taping... it took too long to show any possiblity of getting interested in this show beyond the pilot...

One note though, I had not noticed Sarah Shahi before, so I 'googled' her in the 'images' link. She is really good looking, but this episode didn't bring that aspect out in her, nor any endearing acting ability that would bring me back for more.

Thanks for viewing this pop culture / comic book blog post.... and feel free to post your comment below! This blog post is written for the 'mainstream' blog post reader as well as the pop culture collector!
