THE HOUR IS LATE....

...but we have plenty to read because we have several 'Ghost Stories', 'Ghostly Tales', 'Ghosts', 'Ghost Manor', 'Many Ghosts Of Doctor Graves', and other tales!

One of the best HoRRoR Comic Book Titles  was 'Ghost Stories' from Dell Comics.

You know Dell Comics... 'Dell Comics Are Good Comics'... how they went to HoRRoR comics from that tag line remains a mystery to me....???

The Ghost Stories series ran for 37 issues from September 1962 to October 1973.

The series started when mystery and suspense shows were hot on TV, as with Gold Key's Boris Karloff Thriller and Rod Serling's Twilight Zone!

A history note:  Dell Comics did not submit their comics to the CCA, (Comics Code Authority), after other publishers in the mid 1950's did a form of self censorship. So to run a HoRRoR story anthology comic in the early 1960's was an oddity for this company.

The comics in this run are tame compared to those from EC Comics of the early 1950's, but stand up to time when reading today.

Good reading for those that like HoRRoR comics but without all the grim and gritty gore that some publishers print today.

I would recommend this series to those that would like a good mystery read. For you collectors out there, there are not that many high grade copies of this series on the CGC Census, as these comics were not generally stored away properly.  Buy 'em while you can!

A She-Hulk Movie?

In an earlier blog post I showed how Brigitte Nielsen, (born July 15, 1963 in Denmark), became very popular in 1980s B-movies, most notably as the lead character in Red Sonja, (1985), due to her stature (she stands at 6 ft 1 in, or 185 cm, tall) and sultry looks.

She made the Red Sonja character her own, but there was no sequel, and she went on to other movie projects with Sylvester Stallone, who became her husband.

However, in the late 1980s, Marvel Comics approached Brigitte to pose for photographs dressed as the comic book character She-Hulk.

Brigitte had previously impressed the company with her prior portrayal of their character Red Sonja and accordingly they hoped she would prove just as successful in a new movie venture.

Unfortunately the photos that were produced did not enlicit a large amount of investors in the potential film and Marvel was forced to scrap the project.

The middle left photo shows Brigitte modelling a skimpy outfit and I 'photoshopped' the photo to reflect a greenish hue about her, as the She-Hulk is green like her cousin the Incredible Hulk!  You can see that Brigitte definitely had the body double of the She-Hulk at that time!

There are very few pics of Brigitte dressed as the She-Hulk, with the one to the top left being one of those.  As you can see by comparing the two aforementioned photos, Brigitte would have come across very well as the She-Hulk, alter ego of Jennifer Walters, who is a lawyer in her day job.

Since I first blogged about this previous non-movie, there has been some interest in producing a movie with the She-Hulk. We will keep you blogged on details as they come up!

She-Hulk is currently being published in a on-going title, and up to issue #22 this series!

I personally enjoyed the second comics series, which had John Byrne write and pencil the series, where She-Hulk would break the 'fourth wall' and talk to readers of the comics, knowing that she was in a comic book with her adventures being told.  Kind of a strange humour book, but when reading the comic it makes more sense...

Black Panther Versus The Klan!

Just Listed This Week For the First Time!

On Auction Format for 7 days until Sunday the 30th of September!

It closes at 19:04:47 PDT  SEP-30-07.

This issue is the middle issue of the trilogy of where the Black Panther went after the Klan in the comic book title 'Marvel Premiere'.

The exact issues were #51 - 52 - 53.  These are good reading and we have sent a few for encapuslation purposes due to their NM (Near Mint) or better grade.

Comics do tackle some serious issues, it is not all 'funnybook' material like it was in the mid 1950's to early 1960's.

We also have reading copies of these issues, should you have interest in reading this trilogy. Just click on the comic book cover to the top left to view the listings!
