You've Got A Choice America!

Howard The Duck For President!

Howard the Duck last ran for President back in 1976, as seen by the now RARE Howard the Duck Campaign Button to the top left.

Howard was originally just a comic book character, but he became a movie star (some say flop) in the 1986 film produced by Lucasfilm and Universal Pictures, after his presidential campaign bid fizzled out...

The film about his life on Earth was directed by Willard Huyck from a script by Huyck and his wife Gloria Katz. The film starred Lea Thompson, Jeffrey Jones, Tim Robbins, and Chip Zien as the voice of Howard.

Supposedly the film was inspired by the Marvel Comics characters Howard the Duck and Beverly Switzler who were created by Steve Gerber, although their appearance and portrayals in the film almost completely ignored their original source material.

The film was widely panned by the critics and was known as a box office bomb and reviled by fans, but it renewed enough attention on the character for the Marvel Comics Group to keep Howard the Duck in the Marvel Universe as a Guest Star here and there....

So since Howard the Duck isn't as busy as he once was, perhaps it is time for us to draft him as a presidential candidate again!

Instead of these early mud-slinging verbal contests, and candidate sniping videos, Howard would excel at 'shaking the tail feathers' contests!! Especially since the Rock Band 'Kiss' has special interest in performing at his gigs, (See issues #12 & #13 of his first solo series).

For those interested in figuring out if Howard is truly the one to vote for, we have a few comic books about his early adventures in our eBay Featured Store !  Check them out and vote early (and often!!).

Journeyman No More !
Mood:  sad
Topic: TV Shows

Click here to see all of current listings!

Above is Moon Bloodgood who played 'Livia' on the Journeyman TV Show on NBC.

Time Travel TV Shows usually don't have time to include regular supporting cast members or 'sidekicks'such as 'Livia' in each episode.

However Journeyman had almost an equal amount of 'air time' for time travel new characters as well as regular cast members. Yet it still didn't make the ratings charts NBC needed to satisfy advertisers!

Journeyman

Not Being Renewed

Journeyman was a New NBC Show that aired on Monday Nights at 10 PM, After 'Heroes'.

Tina and I already blogged our thoughts about the Pilot Episode ...  click here to see !

This show was about time travel, which is a hard concept for the mainstream viewing public to become emotionally attached to.

Additionally, NBC's Monday Night lineup was Chuck, Heroes, then Journeyman.

As I have blogged about previously, none of these were a good lead in for the next show, which NBC finally figured out when they aired an episode of 'Life' instead of 'Journeyman' recently after 'Heroes'.

I personally enjoy time travel shows, with Quantum Leap being one of my favorite TV shows of all time.

However, the cast in these shows usually don't get much air time, so the viewership has less chance to get emotionally attached to the cast members.

We enjoyed the series, with only one episode not being up to the usual standards the show set.

If NBC places 'Life' on after 'Heroes' when the season continues... well, we will be taping something else, as seen by 'Our Take' of the pilot of that series.

However, all this may be moot, as the WGA Strike is in its' sixth week, and we may have nothing to watch for a while on TV!

Because we're not going to watch a bunch of game and non-reality shows for our prime time viewing!

Amazing Spider-Man Title Is Now On Sale Three Times A Month!

This is the comic book series that took its' name from the Amazing Fantasy comic book where Spider-Man first appeared in issue #15 in August of 1962!

The Amazing Spider-Man series ran for 441 issues from March 1963 to November 1998 in its' first volume.

The craziness of catering to collectors wanting new #1s created a number of different Spider-man titles during the speculative craze. However, Volume 1 was restarted with issue #500 in December 2003.

Amazingly, this comic book series started with a throw-away character in a comic book title that was going to be discontinued anyways. Even the publisher, Martin Goodman, didn't see how a superhero character based on a spider would sell...and here we are in 2007 with a FOURTH Spidey movie being talked out!!!

Superheroes had already started a revival at DC Comics in 1956 with the Flash appearing in ShowCase Comics. By 1960 DC had the Justice League of America in its' own title, with the team made up of several individual superheroes who either had their own title, or would be 'showcased' for a while before getting one.

The company that would be called 'Marvel Comics' was printing romance, westerns, monster, war and sci-fi comics with NO superheroes.

Stan Lee was asked by his publisher, Martin Goodman, to write a superhero team book similar to the JLA, and he and Jack Kirby came up with the Fantastic Four.

Upon that success they then came up with the Incredible Hulk, and Ant-Man in Tales to Astonish and Spider-Man!

The series created by these two have given me great enjoyment for over 45 years.  Thank you Stan & Jack! PLUS a BIG Thank You to Steve Ditko, who with Stan Lee, co-created Spidey!

Steve just celebrated his 89th birthday last month, and Stan has his later this month!

'Kyle XY'

Upcoming  Season 2008

.

Well the WGA Strike has finally affected our viewing habits as of this week, as the last of the shows that we watch ran their last new episode.

Now all we see is game shows and reality shows coming our way...

We'll pass on those for the most part, sticking just to Survivor: China that has its' Season Finale next Sunday, and the Next Great American Band, which is also close to ending...

However Kyle XY, which we discovered at the last San Diego Comic Con International, is scheduled to return to the ABC Family channel January 14th, 2008.

So we'll be sure to mark our calendars for that show's return!

Just click the following link for 'Our Take' on the show's first season.

So Will You Go To See It?

His Movie Opens Today!

Back in December 2004 Fox 2000 Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox Animation and Bagdasarian Productions announced it would produce a live-action / computer-generated event motion picture on Alvin and the Chipmunks!

The long awaited movie will be released this upcoming Holiday Season On December 14th 2007!

The Chipmunk trio and Dave Seville made recording, broadcasting and merchandising history by selling 43 million albums, starring in their own animated primetime series, plus numerous primetime specials, and the number one network Saturday Morning shows seen in over 100 countries in 40 languages during the course of their existence.

I enjoyed Alvin and the Chipmunks as a kid, and of course had one of their Christmas albums that would drive anyone nuts playing it too long!  Those squeaky voices can get to you after a while.... !
