'Barb Wire' And...
Mood:  quizzical
Topic: Comic Book Movies

Our Most Viewed Archived Blog Post Today!

Barb Wire!

I was really wondering what was going on when I just checked our blog stats...

Our 'Barb Wire Hits Hard' archived blog post about Pamela Anderson portraying the comic book heroine was #1 by far with 18% of the most recent viewers!

Well it appears that Pamela Anderson is 'dating' someone... Michael Jackson! Well, it is 'reported' by 4 entertainment blogs... so it must be true...???

Well, don't know about that, but here is my archived blog post about Barb Wire:

Barb Wire was a 1996 theatrical film based on the Dark Horse Comics, and was produced by Brad Wyman.

The movie starred Pamela Anderson in the title role, plus Temeura Morrison, and Victoria Rowell.

The movie was set in the year 2017, and takes place after democracy has fallen and a fascist military junta has taken over the U.S.A. government.

The junta has plotted to wipe out the country with Red Ribbon, a laboratory-manufactured disease derived from the AIDS virus. The entire test city of Topeka has been annihilated, and only the small bastion of Steel Harbor remains the last free zone in the country.

Steel Harbor is the home of the title heroine Pamela Lee. Barb, a leather-clad, busty motorcycle mama, who besides owning a bar, moonlights as a bounty hunter!  The plot thickens as she comes upon her freedom-fighter ex-lover and his wife (much in the vein of Casablanca film).

I was one of the few that didn't watch Pamela on the Baywatch TV show, however I did catch her in a Playboy issue, and caught this movie near the end of its theatrical run.

In my opinion Pamela was right on as the heroine and so much so that the artwork in the comics started portraying Pamela's image possibly as a sales ploy. This is one of the early comic book movies before the recent explosion of this movie genre, and is actually not that bad....

It is watchable versus the first Captain America movie, or the first Punisher Movie, or even the first Fantastic Four comic book movie that was not released!

BTW, We don't show comic book movies here, although we do have an occasional  Film or TV Show DVD for sale here, but we do have an ongoing Comic Con  and Pop Culture convention here at Make It So Marketing, what with our daily blog posts and listings of items for sale!

When Gods Walked The Earth!

When Gods Walked The Earth....

They Were The Eternals

Another Jack Kirby Series!

We have picked up another small collection of Jack Kirby Comics including his early 1970's series of Kamandi for DC Comics and his mid 1970's The Eternals for Marvel Comics.

To set the stage for the Eternals we would have to go back to 1970, when Jack Kirby left Marvel Comics to work on several projects for DC Comics.

Those projects included the saga of the 'New Gods' which was a separate Comic Book Series.

The New Gods was an epic story that involved both mythological and science fiction concepts. Jack had planned to have a definite ending to this epic.

However, this saga and his other 'Fourth World' titles were left incomplete after their early cancellation.

Jack Kirby, with his recent work for DC still in mind, began T'he Eternals' when he returned to Marvel Comics.

The Eternals' saga was truly thematically similar to the New Gods' work, but once again early cancellation this time by Marvel Comics left the series hanging without resolving many of its continuing sub-plots, in particular The Celestials' judgment over humanity.

However, Marvel just like DC in the years that followed both cancellations re-thought their viewpoints on the cancelled series.

So it was writers Roy Thomas and Mark Gruenwald who brought the Eternals into the 'official' Marvel Universe continuity. It was in a then very long storyline in the Mighty Thor comic book series that resolved the earlier cancelled sub plots and plot lines. The Big Finale climaxed in Thor #300!

So to you bloggers just reading about this series for the first time.... Who Were The Eternals?

They are a fictional race of 'superhumans' in the Marvel Comics Universe. They were an off-shoot of humanity that were created on the Earth by the alien Celestials. Of course in fiction there would have to be a race of counterparts, who are called the Deviants, and the two sides have waged war for centuries...

The Eternals made their first comic book appearance in The Eternals #1  published by Marvel Comics in July 1976. This is a short comic book series to collect. The original series numbered only 19 issues in the set.

Multi Videos On BarBara Luna...

Multi Videos On BarBara Luna...!

Including A Tribute Video!

Last week  I blogged about BarBara Luna being featured in one of my favorite episodes of Star Trek, 'Mirror Mirror'.

After viewing that episode with me, Tina pointed out to me that BarBara was the same actress that was 'Elena' on the episode titled the same on a Mission Impossible episode that we had just viewed the week earlier!

Back when I was watching TV as a kid, we didn't have VCRs and didn't quite catch that some of the actresses that I liked in certain episodes of TV Shows were on other shows.

It wasn't like films where I would go to see the latest Raquel Welch film because she was easily identifiable as a film star.

I never got into the 'movie mags' of the time as to who was married to whom, etc. like my mom was, and besides, usually the prime time hours of TV watching were picked by my mom and dad...

So being intrigued, I 'Googled' BarBara, and found that she was also in several other TV shows during the years as well as film.

I have blogged a few posts about her this past week, and ran across a few videos of her. At the top right is the 'best' one IMHO, that shows her range of acting and her different looks in different time periods.

The tribute video to the top right includes, (in order shown), her episodes on The Outher Limits, The Wild Wild West, Mission Impossible, Star Trek TOS, Man From U.N.C.L.E., Hawaii Five-O, and Buck Rogers in the 25th Century.

Enjoy!

BTW, We don't show TV Show episodes here, although we do have an occasional  Film or TV Show DVD for sale here, but we do have an ongoing Comic Con  and Pop Culture convention here at Make It So Marketing, what with our daily blog posts and listings of items for sale!

EUReKA... The Comic Book?

EUReKA

"The Comic Book?"

Eureka,
I've Found It...

A EUReKA Comic Book!

BOOM! Studios, named by Wizard Magazine as Best New Publisher in its' inaugural year, has announced it will publish a EUReKA comic book based on the popular Sci-FI channel series.

EUReKA creator Andrew Crosby is a founding partner in BOOM! Studios, so expect the comic to reflect the fun and zany flavor of the tv series.

Andrew has already mentioned that this comic book would give him a chance to make episodes without the constraint of a budget!

EUReKA is one of our most favorite shows so we're looking forward to enjoying the comic book.  We hope to bring you copies once it's available.

Last night we took a break from convention coverage to part of the mini-marathon of our current favorite show - EUReKA.

Ducks, Ducks, And More Ducks!

Ducks, Ducks, And More Ducks....

Carl Barks

"The Duck Man"!

Carl Barks (1901 - 2000), is widely respected as 'The Duck Man'!

Why? It was he that invented Duckburg, with Scrooge McDuck (1947), Gladstone Gander (1948), The Beagle Boys (1951), Gyro Gearloose (1952), Flintheart Glomgold (1956) and several more!

Carl first went to work for Walt Disney Studios as an 'inbetweener' in 1935.

(Donald Duck started in 1934.)

Carl quit in 1942, but contributed half the artwork to a oneshot Donald Duck comic book printed by Western Publishing that owned Dell Comics.

Shortly after that Carl started submitting both art and scripts to Dell and worked on the Duck Family for the next three decades!

Today, those Carl Barks issues are highly prized for collectibility, and the later issues that reprinted those issue are also valued for their great reading value.

Currently we have several of Carl Barks issues in stock as well as other Disney, Gladstone, Gold Key and Dell Comics with several 'watchers' on each listing.

So I am blogging this topic to bring more attention to those Bark issues before they are gone!

BTW, we have an ongoing Comic Con  and Pop Culture convention here at Make It So Marketing, what with our daily blog posts and listings of items for sale!
