It Was The "Secrets Behind The Comics"!

And You Could Have Had Them For Only $1.00 !

 Which Was The Cover Price...

...Of Stan Lee's booklet when it was first printed in 1947!

Back then, Stan came up with the idea of selling the behind the scenes story of what it took to create, print, and publish a comic book.

And he should have known, as he had been involved in comics by then for about six years!

The booklet was published by Famous Enterprises, Inc., in a paperback edition, and today can be found for sale at times around $150.00... there was a 'signed' copy for sale at $300.00 earlier this year on eBay!

Additionally there was a reprint edition of this booklet:

'Secrets Behind the Comics' (Limited Edition)
by Stan Lee, with Ken Dale (illustrator). Published by Marvel Limited in 1994. Currently OOP.. Out of Print. First print was a LIMITED edition (700 copies) of the 1947 edition. This reprint had a silver embossed cover. With 100 pages. It was a Hard Cover Black and White 6" x 9" (15cm x 23cm) with a Dust Jacket.  There currently is one on eBay with a starting bid of $19.99 with 5 days left before auction's end.

Note: There currently also is a different colored cover edition for sale  on eBay for $119.95!

My Wife Thinks He Has The Coolest Symbol Used By A Superhero!

My Wife Thinks He Has The Coolest Symbol / Insignia Used By A Superhero!

No... NOT the One Used By The Flash, Batman, or 'The Greatest American Hero'...

It's Green Lantern's Insignia!

Yesterday I was going through multiple pages on Facebook as the 'New Facebook' has arrived and I wanted to learn what was 'New'.

While doing that, I noticed several Facebook members with either Green Lantern costumes or using the Green Lantern symbol or insignia as an avatar.

That reminded of an earlier blog post where my wife Tina mentioned the following after attending this year's San Diego Comic Con International:

You see a lot of people wearing a lot of different T-shirts at Comic Con.

Some logos or slogans are "clean" some are not, (What else would you expect from Samuel L. Jackson?!)

Some I have no idea what they are about.

One T-shirt that always turns my head is the simple, clean look of the Green Lantern.

They just make a statement. Maybe it's that they're peacekeepers, but it looks intriguing and noble.

Maybe it's the Irish in me, but they look a little Celtic to me.  Probably because of all that green!

Michael knows I like them so he took my picture with this member of the Green Lantern Corps.

And, if you've got a Green Lantern T-shirt, wear it with pride!

Tina took my pic with Wonder Woman, the She-Hulk and more... so when I saw the above Green Lantern on the exhibit floor at the 2008 SDCC Comic Con International CCI, I just had to stop him for a photo with Tina!

In Search of Steve Ditko... With Blake Bell !

In Search of

 Steve Ditko...

With Blake Bell!

As Seen At The 2008 SDCC Comic Con International!

Saturday night, July 26th 2008, was the night that the
Annual Masquerade was being held at the SD Comic Con International.

However before that happened, I wanted to see the documentary 'In Search of Steve Ditko' that was being held in Room 5AB.

Why? Because earlier 'googling' of it showed that it had been a documentary shown on the BBC, but that there wasn't any DVD out for rental or purchase!

So, even though it took a while for the host to set up his copy of the broadcast to work on the Convention Center's equipment, Tina and I both felt it was well worth the wait!

The program ran from 7:00-8:40 although the documentary is only approxiamtely an hour in length.

The host was author Blake Bell, who wrote "Strange & Stranger: The World of Steve Ditko".

He hosted a showing of the documentary 'In Search of Steve Ditko' that was narrated by UK television star Jonathan Ross.

The documentary featured such comics legends  as Neil Gaiman, Alan Moore, and Stan Lee, who discussed, each in their own fashion, Ditko's work and career.

At the same time we as an audience follow along Ross' journey to find Steve Ditko when he travels to New York City!

Tina, who is not a Steve Ditko fanatic, was also held fascinated by the documentary, and didn't want to leave!

Suffice to say, if Blake Bell gives a showing at a comic con near you, make it a 'must see' program! Seriously!

It is NOT a dry documentary, and it is an hour well spent on this subject!

BTW, We also have an ongoing Comic Con  and Pop Culture convention here at Make It So Marketing, what with our daily blog posts and listings of items for sale!

Blake Bell did an excellent setup for the documentary he brought for sharing, as shown in the above photo! My thanks to him as it is not available anywhere else for viewing!

Click here to see our currently listed STEVE DITKO items... AND we have THOUSANDS of other comics and magazines listed as well!

Jonathon Ross is the host and narrator of the documentary. In just one hour he explores the subject of Steve Ditko and his work, including but not limited to:  The Amazing Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, The Hawk and The Dove, Mr A, and so much more!  If and when this documentary comes out, it is a must have for Steve Ditko fans!

Comics Podcasting? Yes, Comics Podcasting!

Comics Podcasting?

Yes, Comics Podcasting!

As Presented At The 2008 SDCC Comic Con International!

This special 'Third Annual Comics Podcasting' program was held on the first day of the 2008 San Diego Comic Con International between the ours of 5 to 6 PM.

It was held in Room 32AB, which is one of the smaller medium sized meeting rooms at the San Diego Convention Center. I was only able to attend the end of the progam due to conflicting panel schedules. There is just toooo much to see....

Sad to say it was my loss! However, thanks to Bob Bretall (and John Mayo), I now am able to at least hear what I missed! Click here for the link to the Podcast of the Panel!

Those of you that have read this blog on a regular basis know that I listen to archived podcasts of eBay Radio when I put on my 'shipping hat' and get the day's orders out the door to our customers from our eBay Featured Store and our other websites!

So with the above podcast link, you and I are able to hear the following podcasters at the panel:

Bryan Deemer and Peter Rios (Comic Geek Speak), Charlito and Mr. Phil (Indie Spinner Rack), Joe Gonzalez and Jimmy Aquino (Comic News Insider), Josh Flanagan and Conor Kilpatrick (iFanboy), and John Mayo and Bob Bretall (www.ComicBookPage.com).

Since the panel was presented back in July, I have become 'Facebook Friends' with Bob Bretall and joined his and John Mayo's ComicBookPage Facebook group.

Now I have an even greater supply of archived blog posts to listen to!  For those of you that have long commutes and enjoy hearing about comics, check out John & Bob's ComicBookPage.com!

Thanks for reading this blog post today and please join us again for more on Comics & Pop Culture topics!
