Will This Be The End Of...

Gallant Girl?!

By Kat Cahill & Seth Damoose

Well... It Is The Last Issue Of The Mini-Series!

Click Here to see our current listed Comics, Magazines, Games and more!  That's right!  Issue #3 of Kat Cahill's new three issue mini-series will be out at your local comic book stores this week, December 14th, 2008!

A while back I became Facebook Friends with Kat Cahill, who then messaged me that she her debut issue of her comic book mini-series was released on November 12th, 2008!

And... now her mini-series is at the 3rd and final issue! Oh No!

In case you missed my earlier blog post about issue #1 or #2, here is the background for this mini-series:

The comic book mini-series is being published through Shadowline/Image Comics. Issue number two arrived December 4th, 2008 with the final issue of the three issue mini series arriving this January 14th, 2009.

So what is the mini-series about?

Well, the comic book follows a young woman named Renée Tempete.  She aspires to be the next 'Gallant Girl'...

'Gallant Girl' is actually a "legacy super-heroic identity" whose host is determined every ten years by pageant! Gallant Girl is the sole female member of the 'Fellowship of Freedom'.

I still have not read the entire series storyline yet, so I didn't want to list more about the mini-series premise other than that. However would you believe issue #1 is already sold out?!

But.... Here is where Kat Cahill's story becomes one that many would love to have happen to them:  “I Hate Gallant Girl” took an unusual route to the comics stands, in that it was part of a contest that was held by Shadowline.

Shadowline asked writers to submit their concepts for consideration, and from those thousands of entries, only five were voted on by the public!

Of the five, it was a different concept that was the actual 'winner' and that concept has already been published. However, "I Hate Gallant Girl", was such a favorite runner up that it too was selected for publication!

So, here's a comic book mini-series about a super-heroine that our blog readers might want to seek out either at their LCBS, or at their favorite online store... however the first issue is sold out by the publisher already so don't wait too long!

(Please Note: A complimentary copy for this review was NOT provided by the publisher.)

WebComics... The Book !

WebComics

The Book!

By Steven Withrow and John Barber!

This book's cover jumped out at me while Tina and I were out at a book store... Because it was on 'webcomics' but in print format!

The target market for this book is geared for those that are artists and want to know the tools and techniques for digital cartooning and get their works online.

It is also probably best for those who are in the generation that grew up with the world web web already in place. Because that is the audience "with no nostalgic affinity for the smell of paper, the turn of the page, the ritual of the cramped and difficult distribution / retail network" as stated by the author.

Those persons are probably best suited to initially take their creations and put them online after checking out what is involved to do so.

I have blogged before that my preference is with hard copies of comics, graphic novels, books etc. because of my own life style.  When I want to read, it is away from my laptop, because the laptop is my primary tool during the day or evening for 'work'.  Reading comics online is too much like 'work' for me to enjoy doing so for my 'pleasure' reading.

However, knowing that younger readers of this blog do enjoy this artform online, and not following it since the 'Stone Age' of Online Comics started back in 1993-1996, I am attempting to catch up with what has happened, what tools have been used, and a projection as to where this artform is going.

Heck, I've even been selling some my collections and went to DVDs because of space limitations!  So while I am not stuck in the past totally, I also haven't kept up with what was online to read.

Having new FaceBook Friends that are in webcomics is changing that for me. I am receiving more works to review via online links with comics or .pdf files with previews on published or soon to be published works.

So my thanks to those that have introduced me as to what is being done. For those that need to catch up like I did, this book is an excellent tool for that purpose.

There are many stories in this book by persons that have been doing webcomics for a while.  You as the reader, get to see what they did right (or wrong), and take your own artistical skills and apply them to the web.

The many drawings, pictures, and actual examples shown are well worth the cost of this book IMHO. There are also resource references to use. All this in one book. Even though it was printed in 2005, it seems to still be timely for an artist that wants to put their creations online.

If you do, feel free to email me or message me through FaceBook if you are a member!  I'd enjoy seeing your work for possible blog mention...

(Please Note: A complimentary copy for this review was NOT provided by the publisher. Matter of fact, we have a couple of copies of this book for sale listed!)

Reminder That Next Weekend Is Snow Con!

Snow Con?

Yes... SnowCon

For Those Of You In Or Near The State Of Maine

Happening On The Weekend Of

January 17-18th, 2009!

Click Here to see our current listed Movie Comics & Magazines, and Games!  Just a reminder that the 2009 SnowCon... is being held in Orono, Maine, during the weekend of January 17th-18th!

For those of you that are near that area and enjoy gaming, then you might want to check this out further!

However, Tina and I just had enough of snow blizzards up in Flagstaff during our Christmas Vacation Week , (see pic of Michael above), so we'll pass on this upcoming snow filled weekend! LOL!

However, as we see more and more cons have some room(s) or areas dedicated to gamers, and local comic book stores with their game tables set out... well I thought I would at least mention this Gamers Con that is being held up in Central / Northern Maine for our East Coast Blog readers!

I took a look at their web site: SnowConMaine.com, and found that they have an event and gaming packed weekend planned!

If gaming is for you, and you are close to the state of Maine, this just might be for you!  (Please Note: Tina and I have NOT been to previous SnowCons and cannot answer questions on this Con.)

Details for this Con:

Where: Black Bear Inn and Conference Center, Orono, Maine

Note:  It is right off I-95 exit 193, it's only eight miles from the Bangor International Airport and the bus stations of Greyhound and Concord Trailways. It's also located minutes from Bangor shopping, University of Maine Museum of Art, Maine Discovery Museum, the University of Maine, the Old Town Canoe outlet store, and is about an hour away from Baxter State Park, Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. So your non-gaming family members can come too, and have a great time while you play!

When: Saturday and Sunday January 17th-18th. See their web site for actual planned gaming and events.

Cost: $30.00 for Saturday and Sunday weekend. Or $20.00 for just Saturday. Or just $10.00 for Sunday. Note: Under 12 years of age is free with paying adult. Adult must be there at all times.

For those of you that are new to our blog today and can't go to the above Con, we also have an ongoing online 'Comic Con and Pop Culture Convention'  here at "Make It So Marketing Inc.", what with our daily blog posts,  and new listings of items for sale in our online eBay Featured Store

We were VERY pleased that our blog hit its' 312,000th visitor this past week... Thanks again to all of YOU reading our posts!

There won't be any more blog posts this weekend, as Tina and I will be watching our 'gaming' on TV with the Eagles in an hour and the Chargers playing in the afternoon!

Only '24' To Go !

Only '24' To Go!

Until 8:00 PM January 11th, 2009!

( E.S.T. That Is! )

Then It's Finally The Premiere Episode Of The '24' TV Show We've Been Waiting For!

Click Here to see all of our listings for sale including 24 TV Show items! I was reading another +FeedBack from a buyer who received their Jack Bauer 24 Card Game from us this week... Their +FB comment was: "Fast Shipping Great Item Thank You!".

Well, we were happy to 'Make It So' for this “24” fan, who could at least play the card game until the 2009 Season finally arrived this coming Sunday Night!

The '24' TV Series was one of the major casualties of the WGA Strike.  Like most fans, we could hardly wait until for a new day to begin.  But the strike knocked the new season of the wildly popular show to January 11th 2009!  Yikes – what was a citizen to do?

Well we soon sold out of all our IDW Comics '24' comics / graphic novels. I even sold off my own personal collection due to the demand! And Tina wanted me to keep them as they are / were good reading!

And then we ran out of the '24' TV Show Card Game which we last blogged about on June 2nd, 2008! However, recently we picked up another case of the games, which we have been listing in our online stores for sale.

Tina and I will be couch potatoes tomorrow for sure, as we have 'her' Eagles game to watch in the morning, followed by 'our' Chargers game in the afternoon.

There just wasn't time to squeeze in a round trip to the LA Sci-Fi & Comic Con show tomorrow that I blogged about, as it occurs during the game times, plus we would have to be back for the '24' TV premiere 2 hr episode also! Even though it will be an additional 3 hr delay out here on the West Coast before it starts!

So you'll know where we'll be tomorrow... and hopefully the same place the following weekend when / if both of 'our' teams will still be playing, as we don't have a con to attend that weekend!

For those of you that are new to our blog today, we also have an ongoing online 'Comic Con and Pop Culture Convention'  here at "Make It So Marketing Inc.", what with our daily blog posts,  and new listings of items for sale in our online eBay Featured Store

The Art Of Harvey Comics Exhibition At MoCCA!

The Art Of Harvey Comics Exhibition At MoCCA!

Exhibition dates:

December 18, 2008 - March 15, 2009!

With An Opening Reception:

January 14th, 2009!

Click Here to see all of our listings for sale! I have to admit... a fondness for the Harvey cartoons and comics that were produced during the 1950's - early 1960's!

After all, those Harvey Comics and the Dell FC Comics were among the ones I first started receiving as gifts growing up as a young child in the mid 1950's and learning how to read!

So when I was informed about the above running program at MoCCA, I just had to blog about it!

This exhibition is being shown at The Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art - MoCCA! - It is a visual history of one of the most popular comic book publishers of all time, Harvey Comics!

The Title Of the Exhibition is:

'From Richie Rich to Wendy the Witch:  The Art of Harvey Comics' - "which celebrates the art and characters created and/or popularized by Harvey, including Casper, The Friendly Ghost; Wendy, The Good Little Witch; Richie Rich, The Poor Little Rich Boy; Hot Stuff, The Little Devil; Sad Sack; Joe Palooka; Little Dot; Little Audrey; Little Lotta; Little Max; and many more."

I have not yet seen this exhibition, which started on the West Coast in the Bay Area. However I have been to MoCCA and viewing their other collections alone are more than worth the price of admission!

Those that are lucky enough to see this exhibition will view original art from Harvey comic books and merchandise by stalwarts such as Ernie Colón, Sid Couchey, Warren Kremer and Howard Post!

'From Richie Rich to Wendy the Witch:  The Art of Harvey Comics'  was originated at the Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco, California and was curated by Andrew Fargo.

For the MoCCA presentation, additional curation was by MoCCA Chairman Ellen S. Abramowitz and Director Karl Erickson. MoCCA also gave special thanks to Mark Arnold.

To view this exhibition the following are the location, hours and cost.
