'Moose Mountain'?

The Web Comic Published By Mark Ricketts !

Published Every Tuesday & Thursday!

Mark Ricketts... Informed me that his Web Comic Strip 'Moose Mountain' just recently reached the 100 online strips mark!

Not having seen it before, because I was at the 2008 SDCC and missed its' web launch; I went back to his July 28th 2008 announcement of the strip and caught up with it!

So what is MOOSE MOUNTAIN? Well... it's an online comic strip about anthropomorphic animals mostly.

As Mark says "Yup…lots of talking animals. A brooding, love-sick blackfly. A New Jersey squirrel family under the protection of wildlife witness security. A self-centered, passive aggressive black bear. A moose whose four husbands were all killed in tragic car crashes. Yes sir, this strip boasts a mad parade of talking animals."

A sample strip is shown at the top of this blog post, with just two of the characters, Ranger Todd and Dizzy:

"Ranger Todd - Overly eager, extremely gullible park ranger with a big heart. Due to lack of space at the station, but mostly because the other rangers are sick of his gung ho attitude, Todd’s office has been re-located to an old fire tower atop a cliff overlooking Moose Mountain National Park."

"Dizzy - A self-centered, passive aggressive black bear. While Todd and the wildlife of Moose Mountain may be put off by Dizzy’s petty neuroses, obstinacy, and ego, they tend to treat him like family–the kind you don’t loan money.

I found the strip to be one that I enjoyed reading, especially since I went to the tab, (web page), titled 'New Readers' first to find out who the characters in the strip were, and then checked out the other web pages for background history before starting reading the strip.

Dave Gordon and Mark Derwin... Sent out an update to members of their 'Being Gordy' Facebook Group !

The update had photos from their experiences at the NYCC, and I thought I would share a couple of their pics with my blog readers! Thanks for the permission Dave!

Marina Sirtis, who I'm sure you all know from Star Trek: The Next Generation was at this Con signing, but stopped long enough to pose with the guys and their work. Marina (Deanna Troi) has been blogged about before here in my blog as attending the 2007 SDCC, (click here for photo).

William, star of "The Greatest American Hero" TV Show, and entrepreneur of Catastrophic Comics posed with the guys also. It was just yesterday that I blogged about William meeting R2D2 at the NYCC, wasn't it? (Click here for that video!)

Thanks again Dave and Mark for sharing your photos for those that couldn't make it to the 2009 NYCC!

R2D2 Meets....

"The Greatest American Hero"!

As Seen At The 2009 NYCC!

Marci Beaucoux ... Just called me to talk about the great time that she had at the 2009 NYCC this past weekend while at the Catastrophic Comics booth!

The video at the above right of this blog post is just part of the fun that happened at the Con! After a brief intro at the beginning of the video... R2D2 comes over and plays a familar theme song to William Katt, who we all know was the 'Greatest American Hero" on the TV Show!

William then comes out from behind the table and greets R2D2, and you can see the flash shots around William and R2D2 as others around this scene take photos!

BTW, I have blogged previously that William and his co-star from the TV Show, Robert Culp, were scheduled to be at the upcoming 2009 NYCC on February 7th & 8th. You can see them both, along with Marci in one of the clips during the intro of the video.

I wasn't able to attend the NYCC this year, but had viewed William's preview program at the San Diego Comic Con International in July 2008. You can Click here to view that archived blog post!

Almost Time For The

Hi-Ex 2 Comic Expo!

March 14th & 15th, 2009

In Inverness, Scotland, UK!

Looking at our Blog's stats... I see that there are several European bloggers reading our archived October 23rd, 2008 blog post, which was our first mention of this upcoming Comic (con) Expo!

At that time I mentioned how this was a Comic Con that has a great location! I may be a little prejudiced, but I would have loved to attend this Comic Con!

Why? Well my mother's lineage is from Scotland, (Clan Chattan), so the Scottish Highlands are calling me even now... I hear the bagpipes playing even way over here in Southern California... LOL!

Even though these past two weeks has seen mostly blog posts on the 2009 NYCC that just ended Sunday... We have actually been blogging about more Comic Cons and Pop Culture Conventions outside of North America, because so many of our newest Blog readers are from outside the USA. We also wanted to include areas that could be combined for Cons and tourism at the same time for travelers interested in seeing beautiful places before or after the cons...

Plus this Comic Expo in Inverness is scheduled as a 'Valentines Special' as it occurs the 14th and 15th February of 2009! A beautiful area to be in after Con hours!

Gary has been illustrating for nineteen years and contributed character designs and storyboards for television, commercials and games development for every major comics company, as well as licensed properties such as Star Wars, Terminator, The Mask, Shrek, Madagascar and Transformers. He is currently working with Garth Ennis on the new Dan Dare.

Alan Grant
Alan Grant is best known for his comic work on Batman and Judge Dredd. He was the only UK writer on the hit BBC TV kids' show Ace Lightning and is currently writing the script for an animated movie.

Leah Moore
Was previously blogged about as attending this convention. However, I have been messaged February 7th by Leah that she will NOT be attending unfortunately.

Frank Quitely
Widely considered to be one of the top comic-book artists in the business, Frank has drawn All Star Superman, We3, New X-Men and JLA: Earth 2, (all written by his frequent collaborator Grant Morrison), Missionary Man and Shimura (both for Judge Dredd Megazine), The Authority, Sandman and Batman: The Scottish Connection, among many others.

The first Hi Ex Comic Expo had programs and workshops throughout both days. There are planned programs for the 2009 Expo at this time also, as can be seen by going to:

Additionally there will be exhibitors and creators there with their publications for sale.

Will Be At Planet ComiCon 2009!

The Con Runs March 28th - 29th, 2009

Sarah Douglas will be signing at this show... Along with several other media guests, per Chris Jackson, who is the promoter of this show! One of the best villains in the whole Superman Film Series was Ursa, IMHO! Besides being 'Hot', she was truly picture perfect as a unique villain in her two film appearances!

Chris, a Facebook Friend of mine, messaged me with the link to his comicon that is coming up at the end of March!

His other media guests include: Erin Gray (Buck Rogers), Peter Mayhew (Star Wars), Herbert Jefferson Jr (BSG), and more!

Of course there are comic book creators there also... but we'll save mentioning those for another blog post later!

So if you are in the Kansas City area or traveling there during this time period, be sure to check this Con out!

Where: Overland Park International Trade Center @ 115th & Metcalf, Overland Park, Kansas

When: Saturday, March 28, 2009 10 AM to 5 PM
Sunday, March 29, 2009 10 AM to 4 PM

Cost:      Admission $15 for an Adult Weekend Pass
              $6 Ages 7 to 14 for a Child Weekend Pass
              Under 7 FREE

Special Note: Adult Advance tickets are available for $12 and Child's advance tickets are available for $5 at the "tickets" link and at some Kansas City area comic shops.
