Domestic Shipping Rates As of August 24th 2009

Today, instead of a blog about comics, graphic novels, or other pop culture topics...

I'm taking a moment to mention that I've done a little 'housekeeping' on our main online store web site:  Make It So Marketing's eBay Featured Store, which is otherwise known as "MakeItSoMarketing.com " .

We have decided to LOWER our rates for domestic shipping, in order to send out more single issues to our buyers that have requested that we do so.

We still will have our 'shipping special' for quantities of comics (only) as is shown in detail below. These rates for shipping to USA addresses will remain in effect until other posted.

Please Note... For outside of the USA shipments, please see this link:  Link to International Shipping Blog Post.

SHIPPING COST TO USA Addresses:

SHIPPING COST FOR NON-CGC COMIC BOOKS:

This FLAT RATE Shipping is for NON-CGC graded 'raw' unslabbed comic books only!  (NO magazines, NO CGC encapsulated graded comics, and NO other non-comic items like toys, trading cards, etc. are included in this shipping special! Just Comic Books!)  We will continue to ship unlimited non-CGC graded comics to USA addresses only at the New LOWERED special $3.95 shipping rate! Whether you buy 1 or 3 or 10 or even more comics, the shipping rate for comic books is NOW $3.95!  PLUS for the $3.95 you get FREE Delivery Receipt Confirmation for tracking your purchase(s)!
SHIPPING COST FOR MAGAZINES:
We also sell Magazines, but they are odd-sized and varied in number of pages so they cannot be sent via the 'unlimited shipping' rate, sorry!  Plus due to weight, most magazines can't be shipped first class.  The first magazine will still be shipped at $4.99 for shipping & handling.  We will combine shipping where we can, but PLEASE email us FIRST for combined shipping cost BEFORE you click to buy multiple magazines!
SHIPPING COST FOR CGC GRADED COMICS:
CGC graded comics come in plastic holders and are shipped only via a Priority BOX so as to protect the holders.  We can place 1 to 2 CGC graded comics in the Flat Rate Priority Box for $9.99 to USA addresses only!
SHIPPING COST FOR OTHER ITEMS:
We also sell toys, action figures, trading cards, DVDs, VHS tapes, etc., but they are odd-sized so they cannot be sent via the 'unlimited shipping' rate, sorry!  Plus we normally include some sort of cardboard insert for protection for the item you purchase, as well as being in a bag with backing board.  Each item listed that is not a comic book, not a magazine, but other item is listed separately with its' own shipping & handling charge.  We will combine shipping where we can, but PLEASE email us FIRST for combined shipping cost BEFORE you click to buy multiple items!
-------------------------------

Again,  Please Note... For outside of the USA shipments, please see this link:  Link to International Shipping Blog Post. Our international rates have NOT CHANGED at this time!
BTW, unless we are on site all day and night during a three day or longer comic con... we do blog daily on comic book creators, comic book reviews, and pop culture news and events!

Plus, check out our new listings of comics, graphic novels, Comic Con exclusives and more pop culture items for sale in our own online eBay Featured Store that our blogs are based on

Star Wars Insider #111 From Titan Magazines!

Star Wars Insider

Magazine Issue #111 from Titan Magazines!

Above: Michael onstage with Stars Wars group @ 2009 SDCC!

To the Left:  Regular Front Cover of Star Wars Insider Magazine #111.  There is another Collectors Cover for this issue!

I visited the Titan Magazines booth at the recent 2009 San Diego Comic Con International...

Where I met Ricky Clayton, Marketing Manager for Titan.  We discussed the fact that I have a Blog that covers comic books and pop culture topics.

I also mentioned that my wife was a frequent reader of their LOST: The Official Magazine, because of her fondness for that TV Show.

Wondering why we didn't pick up more of their line of magazines, Ricky proceeded to give me a couple of sample magazines to read and possibly review here in this Blog.

After reading those samples, I started blogging with their Smallville Magazine, which is now up to Issue #32 already! (Click here for that blog!)

Today I'm blogging about their Star Wars Insider Magazine which I haven't seen for a while... and it's already up to Issue #111 !

This issue of Star Wars Insider Magazine is an 82-page issue, packed with interviews and features.  Here are just a few articles that were spotlighted on the front cover.  As for my notes below... I've been a long time fan of the franchise.  I have viewed all of the films on the Big Screen, starting in back in 1977 when Star Wars film first hit the movie theaters.  And yeah, that's me up on stage at the 2009 SDCC with several Star Wars characters.  However I am more fond of the Original Trilogy than the second one, and have viewed them more and recollect them better.  I am a fan of the franchise, not a fanatic...

Inside Artoo – Kenny Baker: Star Wars Insider talks to actor Kenny Baker about his role as “the hero of the whole thing” (according to none other than George Lucas), R2-D2. Ahead of the release of his autobiography Little Acorns…The Kenny Baker Story, Baker not only reveals his memories of playing the Galaxy’s most famous Astromech droid, but talks about a lifetime in show business including roles in The Elephant Man, Time Bandits and Labyrinth. Insider continues the tribute the Star Wars saga’s most dependable, brave, resourceful, and enigmatic character with a look back at some of Artoo’s most memorable moments.

I found the above feature to be a fun read.  I've always like R2-D2, and reading more about the actor Kenny was a good feature. The multiple photos made this a very appealing article.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars – Corey Burton:  Voice artist Corey Burton talks to Insider about playing a trio of tough guys in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Count Dooku, Ziro the Hutt and Cad Bane. Of playing the latter, Burton says: “He’s really the roughest, toughest, most lawless bad guy I’ve ever done. I’m keeping him very creepy – it’s much more menacing to be quiet and calm than to be screaming, ‘I’m gonna kill you.’ He’s someone you want to avoid.”

I watched the 60 Minutes special last night, which was a tribute to the show's creator Don Hewitt, who recently died.  Don always said that there had to be at least one segment in the program that someone would relate to, and / or be interested in.  Which is good that the R2-D2 feature was in this same issue.  I am sure this feature on Corey Burton appeals to many Clone Wars fans, but it didn't stand out to me. However the photos were appealing and the segment was presented well.  Just not a sub-series that I am overly interested in.  I'm sure others will find it more interesting to read...

A Bounty Hunter’s Babe! “ I have no idea what I was!” says Mercedes Ngoh of playing the striking Rystall Sant, one of three sultry singers performing in Jabba’s palace who made a sizzling addition to the 1997 remix of Return of the Jedi. In the latest issue of Insider, Mercedes talks about her Star Wars experience, and reveals what it was like working with George Lucas and Femi Taylor, dancing in hooves with six toes, and spending four hours in make-up to get Rystall’s exotic look after a 4 a.m. wake-up call!

The above was another character that I wasn't overly aware of, but the feature was presented very well.  Again in a magazine format, pictures will help draw attention to an article.

There were more articles in this issue.  Robot Wars! was OK, Jedi Archive was very interesting to me, Score de Force was a good background piece on composer Kevin Kiner, and the Comics section held interest for me as a fan of the comic books.

So I would have to say, that this magazine, #111 in the series was an interesting read and the magazine still has something to say to Star Wars fans even after this long of a publishing run!  Overall a nice package for fans of the Star Wars franchise!

If you are interested in obtaining a copy of this magazine, cover priced @ $5.99, please see either your usual sources of obtaining magazines or books, such as eBay stores or brick n' mortar stores, or try the publisher's web site at:

 Origin Story Arc Conclusion!

My Thanks to William Katt, The Real Greatest American Hero for taking the time to talk and pose with me @ the 2009 San Diego Comic Con International!

Earlier this morning I finished sending a re-write of the chapter I was asked to write for an upcoming book to my Editor...

Having that out of the way made me feel good!

Just like I felt 'good' reading the final issue of what has turned out to be a well written and illustrated three issue 'origin story arc' of 'The Greatest American Hero' from Catastrophic Comics / Arcana Comics!

Sure, it may have been a little bit of nostalgia reading the comic book series, but you can also see by the front cover of issue #3 above, that the series has been updated to the 2000's!

Issue #3 is actually the final installment in the 'origin story arc' of the comic book title.   I am hoping that there will be a continuation of new adventures for this title from Catastrophic Comics that has the blessing from the TV Show creator Stephen J. Cannell!

After the 2008 San Diego Comic Con International (SDCCI) I blogged about seeing the Greatest American Hero Panel.  I was fortunate enough to see William Katt, Connie Selleca, and Robert Culp at that special program.  It was there that William announced that there would be a comic book title named after the show they were all in!  I looked forward to seeing that title, and have blogged a few times about the earlier two issues, and also seeing William Katt at this year's 2009 SDCCI.

It was at last month's SDCCI that I picked up the third issue, and have since read it.  I get so many comics / graphic novels sent in that it does take time to read and then review via blogging the ones that I want to bring to my blog readers attention!

This 3rd issue does tie up the origin story arc, but also has a teaser for what could come next.  I suggest that you take a look at the issues if you were a fan of the show.  The show's flavor does carry over to this print format very well.  That's due to the script by William Katt, Derek McCaw, and Christopher Folino.  Plus the pencils and inks by Clint Hilinski.  The full package was edited nicely by Editor Sean O'Reilly.

You should be able to pick up copies of the three issues published so far from your usual sources.  If not, Catastrophic Comics does have an eBay Store also!

If after reading this title you find yourself interested in what William Katt and Catastrophic Comics are doing next and what other comic conventions they may be attending, check them out at: http://www.catastrophiccomics.com

Those...

Miserable Dastards

From

 Dial 'C' For Comics!

Click Here to see our NEWLY LISTED Comics, Graphic Novels, Toys, Fanzines and Prozines!

Continuing my blogs on comics that I have recently received for review and that I want to blog about here...  is one from Dial 'C' For Comics!   I haven't read one of their offerings before, so I looked at it with an open mind, ready for anything.

Which was a good thing to do, because the title of the comic was 'Miserable Dastards', with the 'Dastards' word being covered up a bit on the front cover, making me look twice as to what the word really was...

Not really knowing for sure what 'Dastards' were, I'm glad that the editor of this comic got that out of the way real quick on the inside front cover!  (See top right insert of this post.)

Okay, now the front cover made more sense for me!  The super-villain being taken away by the police with the 'Thugs', (dastards), being tied up by the super-heroes, who were taking off from the scene!

The interior penciling by Jeremy Dale for this issue was superb, flowing with the storyline by Richard A Hamilton. The inks by Rob Jones with colors by Jelle Van Den Brink were in keeping with the whole issue's presentation, (Great!).  The lettering by Steven Prouse did what lettering is supposed to do...and did it well!  The cover by Rob Hicks, Rob Jones & Miguel Marques da Silva was top notch, except for the super-heroes cape that obscured the 'Dastards' masthead, which may have been intentional?  So as to emphasize the 2nd word of the title by bringing the reader's eyes there?

The phrase 'Making the BAD Guys Look GOOD!'  was used on the bottom of the front cover.   If that truly was the intent of the creator of this title, then the presentation did do that for me!  I enjoyed the story of the dastards, and felt for them during the issue.  This was a good concept, and was presented well.

I recently re-watched the 1960's Batman TV Show episodes and enjoyed seeing so many character actors portray the henchmen during my viewings.  So I was kind of set up to liking the henchmen / dastards of this comic, or at least emphasizing with them.  I would look forward to reading the next issue, as this was just #1 of the series!

Note: This issue's cover price was not marked with a cost, as it was an 'Exclusive Convention Preview' issue.  This issue was presented to me at The Antidote Trust Booth during the San Diego Comic Con International 2009 days as part of a package of comics to possibly review.

However, I do see that 'The MISERABLE DASTARDS Graphic Novel'  was made available in the July 2009 Previews Catalog as a "Spotlight" and "Certified Cool" item!  So just use Diamond code JUL09 0837 to reserve your copy or back order it at Your LCBS now!

The 96 page, full-color graphic novel retails for only $9.99, and it should be a good series to read, based on what I read in issue #1 !

For more info on this comic book title, or to see what else is being published, please check out the publisher's web site at:  http://www.dialcforcomics.com/

As a reminder... This is the 2nd comic book title that I've blogged about that was distributed at The Antidote Trust's (TAT) booth at the 2009 SDCC.  The earlier blog post on 'The Roach' comic book mini-series by Robert Roach was reviewed here: 'The Roach' Review.  Which, BTW, is MY Favorite indie mini-series in a Long Time!

My thanks to Dale Wilson of DWAP Productions for 'turning me on' to this Group's titles, that are all independently published, but following guidelines set by TAT.  (Dale's Caffeine Dreams Issues #1-3 are reviewed here from earlier in the year.)

BTW, unless we are on site all day and night during a three day or longer comic con... we normally blog daily on comic book creators, comic book reviews,  comic book conventions, and pop culture news and events!
