Topic: Comic Cons
This entry in our 'Spotlight On...' blog post series is about... Amanda Stevens, who has been my 'Facebook Friend' for several months. The main reason I am choosing to 'Spotlight' her today in my Blog, is because she has become a well known person at several Pop Culture and Comic Cons during this year, as well as growing in popularity online via her web site and her own Facebook member page! She is also appearing at a couple more upcoming Comics Cons before the end of the year, including one that I've blogged recently about, the 1st Victoria Comic Con being held in British Columbia, Canada! (See here for that blog post.) So, when I first contacted Amanda about doing a 'Spotlight On... (her)', she wanted to know what I would want to 'spotlight'. I suggested that her first paragraph be on whatever basic info she would want to share with the public. The following is the first paragraph reply: "Amanda Stevens continues her crusade in bringing awareness to the events that she was involved in which came to be known as the "Superhuman Experiment". Amanda's physical and mental abilities have been enhanced slightly beyond normal limits though a combination of unspecified secret technologies. Recently she has been able to discuss some of these technological advancements in light of the superhuman experiment comic book series based upon her experiences in an underground experiment."
"About two years ago, I consulted a local printing shop to have some some shirts screen printed. The owners became very curious when they saw an “X” in parenthesis on a shirt I was wearing. They started to inquire about the (X), and I told them it had to do with an underground experiment I was involved in. In learning more about my experience, they thought that it would make an incredible comic book. The book would eventually be known as the Superhuman Experiment and would become a hybrid of both reality and a comic book world based upon actual occurrences. We released the first book of the Superhuman Experiment series: (X): ORIGINS and I began doing comic book conventions.. I immediately feel in love with comics and the conventions, especially all the wonderful people I have met as a result. The newest book entitled Superhuman Experiment: (X) Ultimate Reality, debuted at Tampa Comic Book Convention on July 12th. The Superhuman Experiment has since has since developed into a new genre that combines reality with a radically immersive comic book world that has grown nationwide."
"Cons that I have already been at includes: Mega Con, FX, Wrath Of Con, Florida Super Con, Oasis, Dragon Con, Tampa Con, Mini Mega Con. I LOVE meeting the fans and will be signing all day Saturday from 10am-4pm. I will be the one walking around with cool give-a-way posters and the full-body [X] suit :o) " And for the fourth and final paragraph: Where would you like my blog readers to go to see what you will be doing next? She listed the following links as those that are most pertinent at this time: http://www.victoriacomicconvention.com/index.php http://www.tampacomicconvention.com/ And since I haven't blogged about the Tampa Comic Con yet, here is just a small blurb about it: The Tampa Comic Con is 85 Tables of Comics, Videos, Toys, Action Figures, Anime, Star Wars, Artwork, Trading Cards & Fun! It is on November 7, 2009 at the Minnreg Convention Hall 6340 126th Ave N., Largo, FL 33773 Off US 19 and Ulmerton Road, Close to I-275 (Near Honeywell). The hours are Saturday, November 07 2009 10:00am - 4:00pm. The price of admission is $5 (12 and under free). Okay, that just about wraps it up for this special 'Spotlight On... Amanda Stevens' blog post. I believe there's enough information shown above as to why I decided to 'Spotlight' Amanda here today! My thanks again to Amanda Stevens for taking the time inbetween promoting her web site, and her appearances at comic conventions to send me the replies to my questions above! I look forward to when Amanda's comic con circuit appearances reach the Southwest states! Also, as I've stated before, a person doesn't have to be a writer or artist to be eligible for being 'Spotlighted' in my Blog. If You are someone that is in comics, (or pop culture), in some manner, or know of someone that has been behind the scenes for a long time and deserves to be 'Spotlighted', feel free to message me or email me about it! The following are just a sampling of those that I have recently 'Spotlighted' in my Blog: Bruce Durham, Scott Shaw!, James Pinard, Elisa Feliz, and Joe Pepitone a.k.a. JoepeP among others in the recent past! BTW.... Whereas Tina and I don't publish comics or books (yet?) or set up at comic cons anymore, (except at our own Facebook Virtual Comic Con Dealer Table), we do have thousands of indies and mainstream comics in our own online store. Be sure to check out our new listings of comics, graphic novels, Comic Con exclusives and more pop culture items for sale in our online eBay Featured Store that our blogs are based on! It's due to sales at this online store that keep us going with the ability to post blogs like the one you have read here today! Thanks again to all of YOU reading our current and archived blog posts! We do blog daily on comic book creators, comic book reviews, and other pop culture news and events including some TV shows and theatrical films! ~ Michael @ ComicBookCollectorsBlog.com
