TODAY'S FEATURE - Blog #3147:

I'm formatting this blog while watching this 9th Season Finale show. I'm jotting down thoughts as they come to me for keypunching on Thursday to post...

I'm sure I'll get some input from Tina once she arrives home from her group meeting that she co-founded, Practical Spirituality in Business for Women NCSD.

The judges were announced early tonight as usual. However, Randy stands up for Simon, clapping.  It's Simon's last night on the show.  More on that as the evening progresses, I'm sure.

Besides Simon leaving...It's "School's Out For Summer!" with the Top Finalists, AND Alice Cooper! Now THAT is a way to start off a show!  Besides, I remember that song when it first came out in the Summer of '72, and I was still in college, when school really was out for the Summer!

During the first commercial, I reformatted the above notes into sentences.  I think back to what I've written above, and that this is the end of an 'era' for Tina and myself watching our favorite shows on TV...The LOST Series Finale on Sunday night, the '24' Series Finale on Monday Night, and now Simon's Series Finale on AI...

"Your reigning American Idol", Chris Allen, sings next with Ryan Seacrest's 'mic' still open...Gotta love these 'live shows', even though we are out here on the West Coast, watching them three hours later!

Watching Chris, I think of Tina's earlier comment this Season 9, about how she hasn't heard more from him since his winning the Title last year...

And I wonder how he got by Adam Lambert...while listening to his song tonight...Does America get this right any year?

End of an Era...A Tribute is next, the 1st of several planned to air tonight.  'Simon Cowell Uncovered' - "Professional", "Supportive" - and then clips from past scenes showing that...NOT!!  LOL!

I came to this show after it had already started, as I don't listen to 'pop music' any more on the radio.  Tina does, so she caught the 1st Season, and I finally came in near the end of the 2nd Season.

We started blogging 'Our Takes' on the competition in our original eBay blogging format, which is where this blog first started.

The Blog started in the 1st week that eBay started their blog platform, and we even won a $100 prize in their kickoff eBay blog promotion!  That version of this Blog lasted until eBay decided to shut down 'their' blog platform at the end of October of 2009.  Thank goodness that I had the foresight to open another version of the Blog in February of 2007!

When Tina & I picked up a large collection of rock n' roll comic books at a comic con to resell, I decided to blog about AI and tie in links to our Rock n' Roll comics in our eBay store. Which is why our archived blog posts show so many American Idol entries!

The next scene of the Final was the "things that Simon said"! Clips of insults that Simon said during the 9 seasons, and ending with several persons from previous seasons that had raised Simon's ire.  Now for a few moments a few of them had something to say to Simon!  Cut to commercial...

Tina's here now and she asks why I'm blogging about AI after not blogging about it all season? I tell her why and she says that Simon is the Doctor Doom of American Idol!

Well, You know...even Doctor Doom has his many fans, including me! Since Fantastic Four #5's 1st appearance of Dr. Doom, when I actually first held that comic book in my hands!

And...Doctor Doom was the 'constant' that the Fantastic Four strived against since the beginning of their comic book series, way back in 1962!

And...Simon (a.k.a. Doctor Doom), was the 'constant' that the audience strived against every week for years, when they booed him after his giving his opinion on the shows!

Randy Jackson, who surprisingly has the same body size as the 'Thing' of the Fantastic Four, will have a hard time piloting the AI airship without Simon next seaso...

Ryan Seacrest, (The Human Torch), the annoying flaming boy, (according to Tina!), would always banter with the Thing and irk Doctor Doom in the comics!  Which is why AI resembles the interactivity between the FF and Doctor Doom in the comics!

We're only missing Reed Richards / Mister Fantasic, and Tina says "That's a Good Thing!". She never liked him in the 2 Fantastic Four theatrical films that we saw at the movies, LOL!

Yet Simon / Doctor Doom was the one 'constant' that I've enjoyed watching since first tuning in to AI. I for one will miss him and his POVs on the contestants.

Kara (a.k.a. Ms. Marvel / She-Thing), and Ellen (a.k.a. Crystal of the Inhumans), were later additions to the original team, just like Ms. Marvel and Crystal were to the comic book team.

BTW, Lee and the rock band 'Chicago' really shined on the Medley of Chicago's Hits! WoW!  Why didn't Lee do any of these songs during the Season 9?  Sheesh!

Another funny 'skit' - Simon Cowell Uncovered - The Flirt runs next.  I enjoyed this one too...

Then 'Pants on the Ground' and in addition William Hung chimes in at the end of the song.

The Night is a little uneven, but through it all is Simon Cowell, who doesn't seem to be ruffled by it.

Good to see Bret Michaels joining Casey James on stage.  That's a 'nod' to our watching Celebrity Apprentice 3 all season, which Bret came out the winner!

Then the tears start to flow when Paula comes out for her 'tribute' to Simon.  Good video of memories played.  And then almost all of the winning American Idols come out and other contestants as well. Simon, visibly emotional, but still in control, thanks one and all...basically saying "The show goes forward...It will be different...The Truth is, who's going to be the next judge...? YOU are!  It's been a Blast!  Thank YOU!"

The Finale continues..The Season 9 American Idol winner is announced...It is a 'Beautiful Day'...AND Night!  Lee Dewyze is the AI This Season!  'America' Got It Right For A Change IMO!

After 12,000 ALONE tried out in Chicago for AI, and 14 weeks of performances, and with almost 500 Million Votes, the two finalists, both of whom tried out in Chicago...ONE Remained...Lee!

My personal thanks to Simon Cowell who made watching this show interesting each season that I've watched!  And my thanks to the producers of last night's American Idol Finale...Who put on a Great Show and honored Simon in a befitting way!

AND My thanks again to all of YOU reading this blog and our archived blog posts, now over the 3,145 total posts in number!

TODAY'S FEATURE - Blog #3144:

Today I'm pleased once again to have as guest blogger, Vinnie, who is writing 'His Take' on the Avatar Film on DVD that we rented this past Saturday night:

[SPOILER ALERT: This whole blog post is a 'Spoiler Alert', but with all the millions of people already seeing it, and talking about it...This is more of a review of the film from a tween's POV.]

AVATAR: 'My Take' On the Film Itself!

The movie is set in the year 2154, on a moon of the planet Polyphemus called Pandora in the Alpha Centauri star system. A company came to this planet to mine a mineral called unobtanium, for it's high value. Pandora's atmosphere, however, is toxic to humans, forcing them to use breathing masks. Pandora is mainly inhabited by a human-like species of blue-skinned, ten-feet-tall creatures, called the Na'vi. They live peacefully with nature, worshipping their goddess, Eywa. The scientists want to learn about the Pandoran people from within, so they create a hybrid of human and Na'vi, which they call avatars, that are controlled by a human through mental link by genetically matching humans.

I like the uniqueness of this movie. It brings many aspects up, that are normally overlooked, such as, the connection between a planet, and the creatures living on it. If one was without the other, the other couldn't survive. Also, the people of the planet need to care for their planet, for if we don't, the planet won't have anything to share with us. I also liked the array of imaginative creatures, like the Toruk, (which is pictured at the top left of this blog), a powerful flying predator that only five Na'vi have tamed, for its design and the creativity to make that animal up. They brought creatures in the movie that we wouldn't see in real life, making it even more so exciting. I enjoyed the vibrant colors that were in everything; plants, animals, just everything. That, I felt made the great movie even better.

This movie is more suited for adults as there is quite a lot of cursing. There is also a lot of violence which isn't suggested for young children. I wouldn't recommend it unless that person was 10+ but suggested at least 13+. A good movie for a family with older-aged children.

-------------------------------------------

That's the end of today's guest blog by Vinnie...My thanks to him for sharing here today what we watched this past weekend!

If YOU liked his review on this Film, you may enjoy reading his reviews on:  Coraline, Ponyo, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Sonic the Hedgehog TPB Vol 1, Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs, just to name a few!

TODAY'S FEATURE - Blog #3143:

Today I'm pleased once again to have as guest blogger, my wife, Tina LoSasso, who mixes in a little bit of a comic convention we were at in April, with her thoughts of the upcoming Series Finale episode of 'LOST' tonight:

[SPOILER ALERT: None - as Tina has NOT seen the Series Finale as of this blog posting!]

LOST: Thanks for the Memories!

Like most fans, I'm drowning in a sea of mixed emotions right now.   Incredibly excited to see what happens tonight and, at the same time, I'm dreading my tv life without LOST.

After last week's 'What They Died For', I'm confident that 'The End' will make all these years of watching pay off big. From the moment that poor sap got sucked into the plane engine in the pilot, I was hooked. I like my shows to surprise me... show me something I didn't see coming during the opening credits.

I fell in love with LOST and its castaways when we got a glimpse into their lives off-island via those Season One flashbacks.  Finding out what they were like, why they were on the plane, What Did Kate Do, that Sun studied English so she could leave Jin (!) - this was rich stuff indeed.

After last season, it seemed we'd had flashbacks on everyone - Rose and Bernard, even Ana Lucia, Nikki and Paolo (ugh). Everyone except the Man Who Never Ages, Richard Alpert. Where did he come from? How does he stay so calm? Where did he get the guyliner? What wrinkle cream does he use? At San Diego Comic Con, "Darlton" promised answers.  When they asked us if we wanted a Richard flashback, the crowd went wild.  The beautiful, answers-filled, emotion-packed "Ab Aeterno" was the result.

Michael and I had the pleasure of meeting Mirelly Taylor, (pictured above), who played Isabella, Richard’s wife. Her illness and death propels Richard to the Island. This wonderful episode showcased Nestor Carbonal’s talent. But, what an amazing job Mirelly did coming into the series at this late date, in a one-shot, and making us believe in her character. Her final scene speaking to Richard via Hurley had Michael and I both in tears.  (And we never cry over the same scenes in anything!)

What will I miss most about LOST? Besides the anticipation of what the # are they going to do to us this week, I’ll miss connecting with other fans over the show. My favorite times at SD Comic Con have been at LOST panels – and hanging out in line for hours and hours beforehand! This past year’s event was perhaps the best of all – at least since the first – probably because we knew it was the last. Fans out-did themselves in crazy costumes. One woman even dressed as a representation of The Island – I loved the little plane hanging from her hat!

I’ll never forget the two Hurleys in Dharma jumpsuits. When they caught sight of each other and started running towards the other, it was Desmond and Penny all over again!  (If you haven’t seen them, check out the YouTube video of the panel; they both talked to the real Hurley during the Q&A.

In the real world, it’s been fun discovering that someone is a LOST fan.  Once you know, it doesn’t take much to get them going and you discover a whole new side to them that you never knew.  How very LOST!

I hope everyone enjoys tonight’s finale. Michael and I will be hunkered down for the duration 7-11:30 and taping Jimmy Kimmel.  Here’s hoping we can all sleep tonight so we can get up and go to work in the morning and talk about LOST one last time…
