Michael D Hamersky On Comics Presents His Take On...

Scott Shaw! Talks About and Draws Scenes from His Career!

At the 2013 San Diego Comic Fest, Sunday October 6th!

TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #3968 -     This past Sunday, at the 2013 San Diego Comic Fest... Scott Shaw! and Roger Freedman presented a panel titled:  'Scott Shaw! Talks About and Draws Scenes from His Career' from 1:45 to 2:45 in the Garden Room 1.

My youngest son, Vinnie, and I attended this informative and fun program!

At the right are four photos that I took during the presentation.

Roger Freedman, a long time Scott Shaw! friend, moderated the program, asking Scott about certain time periods of his life.

Scott would answer and draw a scene from that time period that Roger asked about.

My thanks to Scott & Roger for such a lively discussion and presentation!  I learned a lot more about Scott that I didn't know about!

Michael D Hamersky On Comics Says That He Is Back From The...

2013 San Diego Comic Fest!

TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #3967 -     I'm posting this blog this morning to post the links to special pages from the 2013 San Diego Comic Fest!

My youngest son and I spent the full three days & two nights at the 2nd year of this new comic con, and came away tired & happy!

The last panel that we saw was the 'Feedback' panel, where audience members told the Comic Fest's organizers what they liked, didn't like, and what they would like to see for the next year.

One of the main 'Likes' was the programming.  I gotta agree with that!  We spent a lot of time in panels, and could have just set through panels all day on Sunday, they were that good!

Anyways, I want to post the links that I think you should see, whether or not you attended the 2013 San Diego Comic Fest.

They are:

Friday photos taken by Vinnie & me

Saturday photos Part 1

Saturday photos Part 2

Sunday photos

Videos to be uploaded to my YouTube Channel as time permits

I also uploaded individual photos from the panels, Dealers Room, Artist Alley, Draco Tavern, etc., at the Facebook Fan Page as the events were happening.  Here is that link.

As for my thoughts for the 2nd Annual San Diego Comic Fest:

Parking - Great prices for parking... Only $4 for the day!  Can't hardly beat that price!

Registration - Easy access to the Ascot Room to pick up your badges, whether all 3 days or single days.  Good job to the volunteers that handled that necessary function!

Artist Alley - This event moved this year to where the Art Show had been the first year.  Really good choice in moving it there!   Even more Artists were there during the 3 day event.  Congrats to Beata for handling this function!

Draco Tavern -  Outstanding decorations, and very reasonably priced food!  We ate there all 3 days!   Plus thanks to Will Lund and his troupe who performed 4 times a day from Larry Niven's book, the Draco Tavern!  Congrats to Wendy All for setting this up!

Dealers Room - Lots of good deals, with several returning dealers from the first year!

Programming - Already mentioned, but man, this was a good block of programming, and for all three days!

Masked Ball - We didn't stay for it all, but there was a good attendance at this, and everyone there seemed to be having fun!

Parties - Good parties at the Pool, and at Draco Tavern!

Now this comic convention is what was really good about the early days of the San Diego Comic Con!

I won't give this convention a comic book grade like I normally do after attending a comic con, as I'm on the organizing committee, but I gotta admit... I had a lot of fun!  And so did my youngest son, Vinnie!

The San Diego Comic Fest's third year will be at the same location, but later in October, on the 17th thru 19th.  Be sure to block out those dates on your 2014 calendar!

~ Michael

Asks... What's Happening With The 2015 Fantastic Four Film?

 alt=

TODAY'S FEATURE IS (GUEST) BLOG #3965 -     I've been pretty busy the last few weeks and haven't had a chance to check out what is happening with any comic book films to be released in the near future or later...

One film that did catch my attention earlier was the projected March of 2015 release of a new Fantastic Four film.

I've already blogged about the Roger Corman Film that wasn't released in theaters several times, and of course the two that were released years later.  Here's an index link to those posts.

So what is going on with the upcoming film?

Here is a link to the IMDb web site for this film.  As you can see, there isn't much there at all!

The release date is scheduled to be March 6th of 2015.  The director is Josh Trank, and the writers are doing revisions. Allison Williams auditioned for the role of the Invisible Woman. IMDb hasn't updated this web page since April of this year.

So I also checked other web pages and found the following:

The first two films that were released, in 2005 and 2007, will be ignored.  Which is a shame, because I liked those films.

The character roles have not been cast of yet.  Looked at for the role of Mr. Fantastic: David Tennant, Adrien Brody, and Jonathan Rhys Meyers.  Probably others as well.

The Invisible Woman role has been looked at by Allison Williams, and Alice Eve.

The Human Torch role has Michael B Jordan as a posibility.

No mention of anyone for Ben Grimm / The Thing as of yet.

As of October 2nd, (yesterday), Simon Kinberg has been brought in to re-write the film.

A big change in shooting location... Instead of Vancouver, the film will be shot in Louisiana, due to a massive State tax credit.

So it looks like we have quite a ways to go before anything definite will be announced!

Stay 'tooned!

~ Michael

Mentions That  The So Cal Comic Con Is On October 20th!

TODAY'S FEATURE IS (GUEST) BLOG #3964 -     I've been so busy working on the Facebook Fan Page for a different Comic Fest to be held in San Diego in early October... That I've forgotten to mention this one day show in San Diego North County that takes place on October 20th!

I've been to all of the three previous years of this show, and even set up as a comic book dealer at the second year!  So you know that it has to be a good show!

Which is exactly what this 'show' is.  An old fashioned comic book dealers 'show' with several comic book artists included.

PLEASE NOTE:  There are no panels or programs at this show. Just dealers and comic book artists!

For more info on where it is being held, be sure to check out the following links:

See you there?!
