Buffalo Bill Jr DVD Set ?
Mood:  quizzical
Topic: TV Shows

Click here to see OUR Westerns listings!

The Buffalo Bill Jr TV Show starring Dick Jones had several Dell Comic issues, such as the one above.

Since our original blog posting I have been asked if there is a complete set of the TV episodes. So far I have only seen small compilations of episodes on VHS and DVD, nothing like the complete set of the 'Bat Masterson' TV Show on DVD. Sorry!

To see our western comic books for sale, just click on the comic book cover above!

Buffalo Bill Jr.

Starring Dick Jones!

This TV Show aired from March 1, 1955 to Sept 21, 1956.

The show starred Dick Jones as a young Texas marshall who was trying to raise his kid sister, Calamity, played by Nancy Gilbert.

They both were under the watchful eye of their adoptive father, Judge Ben Wiley (Harry Cheshire).

Buffalo Bill Jr's Horse's name was 'Chief'!

This TV Western was aimed for a younger audience, unlike 'adult westerns' like Maverick, etc.

There were 52 black and white episodes that were produced by Gene Autry's Flying A Productions.

I don't really remember this TV Show, although ABC re-aired several episodes later in 1964 on their Saturday Morning Schedule.

Down To The Wire!
The Final Three!
Here Is 'Our Take' On
'The Next Great American Band'
TV Show on the Fox Network!
The 12-14-07 Episode

For those of you that missed this 12-14-07 show... The episode continued with the 1 hour format, but the show has been moved to 9 PM PST after 'Don't Forget The Lyrics!'!
This week the three chosen bands played three songs each. One chosen by an individual judge, the next chosen by the NGAB production people, and the third is an original song by the band that they chose.

This blog post is similar to our format on 'Our Take' Of American Idol Performance Shows that we do when AI is in season.

The following is 'Our Take' on the Night's Performances in Numerical Grading.  I have added the points of the three songs performed by each band to get an average score.  You can see by the 'spread' that there is still a difference of opinion between us on just one of the performers:

For those that missed our previous blog posts on this TV Show, Here are the links:

Due to blog post space limitations, the following are just a few notes from this nite:

Light of Doom - Tina says 'Thank God those kids are gone!'
SixWire - This band has improved so much that Michael voted for them as the NGAB!  Even tho' he likes D&MHO....
DMHO - Unfortunately DMHO just didn't come thru on total overall performances for Michael, ever tho' he was pulling for them.
The Clark Brothers - Tina's faves came through for her, and she voted for them.  They just weren't consistent enough for Michael for him to vote for them.
The final two in the 'Green Room' were Six-Wire and Light of Doom... Tina was so pleased Six-Wire made it to the Final Three!
Next week:  The BIG REVEAL !!
Next week the performances are by the judges??
Supposedly they will be on stage for some production,
or maybe they were just funnin' ?

Looks like this is the end of the series next week, as the
numbers are not anywhere close to American Idol numbers
of viewers!

For those that are wondering what the 'tie-in' is for us... we have Rock Comic Books and Magazines for sale in our eBay Featured Store!

Bat Masterson

Now On DVD! $299.99 MSRP

Bat Masterson was another of the 1950's American Western Television Shows I like blogging about!

This TV Show aired from 1958  to 1961 on the NBC Network.

The show lasted for 3 Seasons with 107 episodes.

The television show portrayed the fictionalized life of the real-life marshall/gambler/dandy in a half hour series.

Bat Masterson, played by Gene Barry, dressed in expensive Eastern style clothing, and was loathe to use a gun.

Instead he quite often used his cane, thus gaining the name 'Bat' Masterson due to his prowess with his cane!

What most viewers don't know is that Gene reprised his 'Bat Masterson' role again in 1990 and 1991 in two other TV shows as a guest star!

You've Got A Choice America!

Howard The Duck For President!

Howard the Duck last ran for President back in 1976, as seen by the now RARE Howard the Duck Campaign Button to the top left.

Howard was originally just a comic book character, but he became a movie star (some say flop) in the 1986 film produced by Lucasfilm and Universal Pictures, after his presidential campaign bid fizzled out...

The film about his life on Earth was directed by Willard Huyck from a script by Huyck and his wife Gloria Katz. The film starred Lea Thompson, Jeffrey Jones, Tim Robbins, and Chip Zien as the voice of Howard.

Supposedly the film was inspired by the Marvel Comics characters Howard the Duck and Beverly Switzler who were created by Steve Gerber, although their appearance and portrayals in the film almost completely ignored their original source material.

The film was widely panned by the critics and was known as a box office bomb and reviled by fans, but it renewed enough attention on the character for the Marvel Comics Group to keep Howard the Duck in the Marvel Universe as a Guest Star here and there....

So since Howard the Duck isn't as busy as he once was, perhaps it is time for us to draft him as a presidential candidate again!

Instead of these early mud-slinging verbal contests, and candidate sniping videos, Howard would excel at 'shaking the tail feathers' contests!! Especially since the Rock Band 'Kiss' has special interest in performing at his gigs, (See issues #12 & #13 of his first solo series).

For those interested in figuring out if Howard is truly the one to vote for, we have a few comic books about his early adventures in our eBay Featured Store !  Check them out and vote early (and often!!).

Journeyman No More !
Mood:  sad
Topic: TV Shows

Click here to see all of current listings!

Above is Moon Bloodgood who played 'Livia' on the Journeyman TV Show on NBC.

Time Travel TV Shows usually don't have time to include regular supporting cast members or 'sidekicks'such as 'Livia' in each episode.

However Journeyman had almost an equal amount of 'air time' for time travel new characters as well as regular cast members. Yet it still didn't make the ratings charts NBC needed to satisfy advertisers!

Journeyman

Not Being Renewed

Journeyman was a New NBC Show that aired on Monday Nights at 10 PM, After 'Heroes'.

Tina and I already blogged our thoughts about the Pilot Episode ...  click here to see !

This show was about time travel, which is a hard concept for the mainstream viewing public to become emotionally attached to.

Additionally, NBC's Monday Night lineup was Chuck, Heroes, then Journeyman.

As I have blogged about previously, none of these were a good lead in for the next show, which NBC finally figured out when they aired an episode of 'Life' instead of 'Journeyman' recently after 'Heroes'.

I personally enjoy time travel shows, with Quantum Leap being one of my favorite TV shows of all time.

However, the cast in these shows usually don't get much air time, so the viewership has less chance to get emotionally attached to the cast members.

We enjoyed the series, with only one episode not being up to the usual standards the show set.

If NBC places 'Life' on after 'Heroes' when the season continues... well, we will be taping something else, as seen by 'Our Take' of the pilot of that series.

However, all this may be moot, as the WGA Strike is in its' sixth week, and we may have nothing to watch for a while on TV!

Because we're not going to watch a bunch of game and non-reality shows for our prime time viewing!

Thanks for reading this popular culture - comics - comic books blog post!

Michael
