Nathan Fox

Signing

 "Pigeons From Hell"

At The 2009 New York Comic Con!

Click here to see our current listings of COMIC CON Pop Culture Items!

The NYCC Runs February 6th, 7th & 8th, 2009!

"Pigeons From Hell" Is A New TPB Release Created By Joe R Ransdale, Nathan Fox & Dave Stewart From Dark Horse!  Check The Dark Horse Booth At The NYCC For Nathan's Signing Hours!

Click Here to see all of our newly listed items for sale!  Nathan Fox... (as seen in the 3D illustration at left), last night told me that he will be signing the New TPB of "Pigeons From Hell" at this year's NYCC!

Currently his projected signing hours would be:

Friday  2:00 - 3:00   and   Sunday 12:00 - 1:00

...but Please Double Check at the Dark Horse Booth #823 for verified hours, as con schedules are subject to change!

The TPB,(Trade Paper Back), collects issues  One thru Four of the Dark Horse Comic Book Series of the same name, plus it has xtras not printed during the series original run.

For those of you that didn't read the comic book series, here is the press release from Dark Horse about the compilation in the TPB:

"Master horror storyteller Joe R. Lansdale throws his scathing wit and wild, otherworldly creations into the mix as he brings Robert E. Howard's classic tale of dark revenge to the present . . . and into the unwilling lives of the Blassenville mansion heirs, twin sisters Claire and Janet. When Griswell fled the Blassenville estate those many years ago, he couldn't have imagined the grotesque horrors that would eclipse the ones he saw then-but they're here, thanks to fiction legend Joe R. Lansdale, dazzling new comic-book artist Nathan Fox (DMZ), and multiple Eisner Award-winning color artist Dave Stewart (Conan, The Umbrella Academy). This fresh take on the classic Pigeons from Hell story delves deeper into the dark mansion's past while also digging up some fresh, imaginative demons, as Claire and Janet unknowingly bring their friends into an unearthly death trap!"

Details for the TPB are as follows:

Paperback: 120 pages
Publisher: Dark Horse (February 10, 2009)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 1595822372
ISBN-13: 978-1595822376

Please check the Dark Horse booth #823 at the Con for Nathan's signing of this TPB.  Long time blog readers of ours will know that Michael is a fan of Robert E Howard, who most of you know as the creator of Conan The Barbarian. We blogged about a great movie released in 1996 on Howard's life, starring Renee Zellweger and Vincent D'Onofrio as Robert. Click here to view that movie review blog as it was missed by many, as it was released at the same as 'The Titanic' film in 1996!

When Nathan is not at the Dark Horse booth signing, you should be able to find him at the Cadence Comic Art booth #2266, where he will be selling his art, books, and taking commissions from you!

Nathan Fox is one of several exhibitors / stars / creators that will be at this upcoming con. I've already blogged about the following that will also be attending the NYCC:

Date:

Saturday, February 7, 2009

Time:

11:00am - 12:00pm

Location:

The Writer Store

Street:

2040 Westwood Blvd, Westwood, CA

A Special Interview With This Writer / Executive Producer of Such Shows As:

Star Trek: DS9, The 4400, Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda, and The Dresden Files!

Click Here to see our current listed Comics, Books, and Graphic Novels!  Jeffrey Berman sent us an announcement about this upcoming show...  Which is actually a live interview with Robert Hewitt Wolfe, who was the Writer/Executive producer of several successful TV series, including Star Trek; Deep Space Nine, Gene Roddenberry’s Andromeda, The 4400 and The Dresden Files!

Long time Blog readers of ours will know of our love of The 4400 series, of which we have blogged about several times before, (click here).

The show will be hosted by Jeffrey Berman, with the live interview starting at 11am on February 7th at The Writers Store in Westwood California. Major details for this event are posted below the Header Title for this blog post. For more information on the event please contact the Writers Store at 866-229-7483*.

(* PLEASE NOTE: Jeffrey Berman just messaged me the following tonight 02-02-09 at 6:47 pm:

"Just a quick note to everyone who checked the maybe box for this weeks live taping of The Write Environment with Robert Hewitt Wolfe.

Seating is limited to about 35 with another 35 for standing room only, so if you think you might be attending I'd suggest you make your reservations now.

You can do so on Facebook or by calling The Writers Store at 866.229.7843.

Thank you for all your support and I hope to see you there." )

As for the guest's bio... Robert Hewitt Wolfe graduated UCLA in California, receiving a bachelor's degree in Film and Television and also a MFA in Screenwriting. It was his very first screenplay, Paper Dragons, that placed second in the prestigious Goldwyn awards!  With that prize money Robert purchased his first computer. So it was at this point he decided to try and make himself a career in showiz.

It took a little while, but when he sold the story For A Fistful of Datas to the series Star Trek: The Next Generation that was his breakthrough. His writing of the screenplay for that episode secured him a place in the creative staff of the series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, when that series made its debut in the following year. Since then he has gone on to write/produce episodes for The 4400, The Dresden Files, and more...

Host Jeffrey Berman’s first spec script was purchased by Brian Grazer and Ron Howard of Imagine Films. Since that time he has written feature film projects for Universal Studios, Paramount Pictures and The Walt Disney Studio, as well as several independent film companies. His most recent script, Young Robin Hood, co-written with Tony Caballero, has been optioned by Dreambig Entertainment.

In the television market, Jeffrey has co-written and sold several MOWs including The J.K Rowling bio-pic for NBC television and The Last Rainmaker for Hallmark.

Our blog readers can view more about Jeffrey and The Write Envrionment by going to:

www.thewriteenvironment.com

There you will find that Jeffrey already has conducted six other live interviews with:

Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Dollhouse)

Damon Lindelof (Lost)

Tim Kring (Heroes)

Sam Simon (The Simpsons)

Phil Rosenthal (Everybody Loves Raymond)

Doug Ellin (Entourage)

I want to thank Jeffrey for bringing his show information to us! Even though we are just two hours south of Westwood, I had not heard of his Live Interview Shows before this, and look forward to attending his presentations in the future.

"Neil"

An Original Graphic Novel In Progress

By

Jon Ascher

An Invitation To Check Out The Progress Of This  Graphic Novel Online!

Click Here to see our current listed Comics, Books, and Graphic Novels!  Jon Ascher is a Portland, Oregon based illustrator and graphic designer...  His latest creative work was brought to my attention by Jess Jinkies, who sent me the links to both his web site and his 'Making of the Neil GN' video.  I viewed the pages shown on his web site and viewed the video...  and am sharing both with our blog readers to view!

The video at the above right of this blog post shows Jon verbally portraying what he is painting in his graphic novel that is in progress.  The video is a little long with some gaps in the filming, but you will get what is he attempting to convey in his artwork by watching it. You will also get part of the theme of the book via the video, but you should read Jon's notes on his web site.

Our blog readers can view the pages he has up at his web site for FREE by going to  www.jonascher.com right now!

I want to thank Jess Jinkies for bringing this project to my attention. The work is not yet completed which is why there is a good looking interior page shown at the top left instead of the cover...

That is also why this blog post is a 'mention' instead of a 'review' at this time.

I'll leave it to Jess and / or Jon to follow up with me as to when this GN will be ready for pre-publication review....

(Please Note: A complimentary hard copy for this mention was not provided by the creator as it is in online format only at this time.)

The FAT Man... An Online Serialized Graphic Novel!
Mood:  caffeinated
Topic: Comic Books - New

Click here to see our current listings of Graphic Novels, Comics, Magazines, and other Pop Culture Items for Sale!

The

FAT

Man

An Online Serialized Graphic Novel!

By Thomas Cochrane and Alan Tanner!

Click Here to see our current listed Comics, Books, and Graphic Novels!  Thomas Cochrane sent me the link to his online serialized graphic novel.  Along with Alan Tanner, the artist for this project, Thomas is weaving a story that has several elements that I enjoy in books and on TV.

First off, Thomas Cochrane is a Scottish artist and writer.  "The Fat Man" is his first graphic novel.  Thematic inspiration for this GN he says comes from "such diverse sources of 'TinTin', 'The Avengers', and a fascination with the concept of time travel".

Alan Tanner is a veteran illustrator and designer. He has worked on covers for 'Time Out' and the infamous 'Oz Magazine'. He has also created many illustrations for the 'Radio Times'. Additionally he has worked for CBS and Island for several record covers.

This graphic novel has a new chapter presented every month. The 9th chapter's splash page is presented at the top of this blog post to get an immediate idea of the artwork. I  believe that it is not the 'final' version of that page.  As of this blog post the online story had not reached that chapter as of yet...

So what is the story about? Well, I'll just print what the writer says about it:

"The story centres on the mysterious 'Tegel Project', responsible for the death of millions, which threatens the very core of civilisation. Betrayed by MI5, the Fat Man finds himself caught between the blazing guns of would-be assassins and the blood-red lips of silent movie star Louise Brooks.

Unable to trust anyone and faced with a series of unpalatable choices, he careers madly along the arch of time on the seemingly impossible mission of keeping himself and his lover alive..."

I am told that "The Fat Man" is a charity project with sponsorship, which is why our blog readers can view it online for Free.  Additionally, "The more eyes on the web site, the more the charity can raise," Thomas explained in his message to me.

The graphic novel is presented in a format that uses the 'My eBook' reader. It is interesting that as you 'turn' the pages, you hear the sound of pages turning.  I did find the page turner mechanism a little hard to use, but that is the software's fault, not of the writer/artist team.

There is a 'promo movie video' for this graphic novel, as well as several 'wallpapers' for your computer's desktop at the web site should this serialized project grab your interest!

The serialized online graphic novel and the wallpapers can be viewed at:

www.the-fat-man.co.uk

After viewing the graphic novel, and you find yourself interested in knowing more about this work, you are welcome to join The Fat Man group if you are a Facebook member at:

www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=21043026251&ref=mf

For myself, I know that I will continue reading this story. Except for a few curse words, the story so far is of a PG-13 rating. I am a 'sucker' for well written time travel stories, as seen by my blog posts so far on 'Life On Mars', 'Journeyman', 'Quantum Leap', and the like.  This GN 'The Fat Man' has my interest.  I have joined the FaceBook Group to be reminded when the next chapter is online. Should you enjoy the story as published so far online, I would suggest doing the same!

(Please Note: A complimentary hard copy for this mention / review was not provided by the creator as it is in online format only.)
