'Comics And The Impact On Film Today' Panel At Cut! Film Festival!

Cut! Film Festival

Will Feature A Panel With Mike Grell, Mark Ryan, & Steve Niles!

CUT! Film Festival celebrates film and those who create them...  As mentioned in an earlier blog post, I have been notified that LiquidSPACE in conjunction with Graykin Entertainment and GALS Charitable Foundation will be presenting CUT! Film Festival 2009! The festival is a benefit and celebration of cinema dedicated to the art and imagination that goes into the creation of film.

The festival will be taking place the weekend of March 14-15, 2009 at the historic Aero Theatre, 1328 Montana Ave. at 14th Street, Santa Monica, California.

What is neat about this festival is that "from concept to pre-production, production and post, you’ll hear the back-story of how a concept became screenplay and how screenplay became film".

My main interest in this Festival is on an project that I blogged about before, Code Name: Zeus. (Click here for that blog post.)

However, there is also another special Panel being shown there that would be of interest to those interested in Comics and what are considered 'Comic Book Movies':

"COMICS AND THE IMPACT ON FILM TODAY Panel, showcasing the talents of legends in the comic world, MIKE GRELL, a 30+ year veteran of comics (The Green Arrow, The Warlord, Jon Sable) and winner of the prestigious INKPOT AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN COMIC ART, partnered with MARK RYAN, who together have written a new graphic novel entitled, The Pilgrim, and fellow veteran of comics and film, 30 Days of Night, creator and writer, STEVE NILES, will discuss the evolution of comics in film today. This promises to be a fascinating topic of discussion."

There are several other projects that are presented at this festival, but lack of space in this blog format keeps me from mentioning them. I'll leave you to check out The Cut! Film Festival blog site at:  http://www.cutfilmfestival.org.

I have been told that all the screenings and panels will be followed by a 'Meet and Greet Session' with the guests.  So for those of you able to attend this Festival bring your camera and a sharpie and most of all, enjoy the weekend seeing as many programs and panels as you can

Also, there is an important raffle going on prior to the Festival... check out this link for details: http://www.cutfilmfestival.org/raffle.html

Click Here to see our current listed Comics, Books, and Graphic Novels, some! Steven Niles, a Facebook Friend of mine, is known for his comic book work on 'The Nail' (Dark Horse), 'Bigfoot' (IDW), a Batman mini-series 'Gotham County Line' (DC Comics), '30 Days Of Night' which was optioned for a major motion picture release, among other works!

Mike Grell is most widely known for his 'Warlord' comic book series for DC Comics, his own creator owned 'Starslayer' and 'Jon Sable Freelance', and the Tarzan comic strip from 1981-1983.

Mark Ryan has worked in TV and Film for many years, probably best known for his voice work in the 'Transformers' Film as the robot 'Bumblebee'.  His latest work 'The Pilgrim', is a graphic novel inspired by factual events occuring during WWII concerning modern psychic warfare research.

March 5th At The Skirball!

Jerry Robinson Interviewed By Mark Evanier!

Click Here to see our current listed MARVEL SUPERHEROES Comics, Books, and Graphic Novels!

Part 3: Curator's Talk  From The ZAP! POW! BAM! Exhibit's Guest Curator Jerry Robinson

Thursday, March 5th, 2009 At 8:00 PM...  Is the special Curator's Talk being held at the Skirball.

The Opening Day for this exhibit was on Thursday February 19th.

As seen in Part 1 & Part 2, Tina and I have already been to this Exhibit and had a great time!

However, we will not be able to attend this special Curator's Talk, which has Mark Evanier inteviewing Jerry Robinson...

Click Here to see our current listed Comics, Books, and Graphic Novels! The ZAP! POW! BAM! Exhibit's Curator was at the 2008 San Diego Comic Con International, where Mark Evanier interviewed him along with other guests at the Annual Jack Kirby Tribute Panel held at that Con.

The Photos shown in this blog post are from that special panel which I wanted to share with you.

If you have not heard Mark Evanier host a panel or program before, you are in for a treat if you can make this special Curator's Talk!  Mark is able to get the person he is interviewing to be comfortable and open up with great stories to share!  With Jerry Robinson being there at the beginning of the Golden Age Of Comics I'm sure you'll hear some great tales of what it was like to be there during the early years of Batman as well as other Golden Age characters!

The special program is one night only:

March 5th 2009 at 8:00 PM

At the Skirball Cultural Center at 2701 N. Sepulveda Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90049

Cost for the special program is:

$10 General Admission, $8 Members, $6 Students

For those not able to attend this special Curator's Talk, but are in the Los Angeles Metro Area any time up until August 9th, 2009, this would be a good place to go see with your family.   It is varied enough in exhibits to entertain the young through older in years, and not too 'geeky'!

Details for the ZAP! POW! BAM! The Superhero: The Golden Age of Comic Books, 1938–1950
On Exhibit From February 19 - August 9, 2009

ADMISSION To the two special exhibits about Comic Books are included with Museum admission:
$10 General; $7 Seniors and Full-Time Students; $5 Children 2–12;
Free to Members and Children under 2; Free to all on Thursdays.
Note: There is a current special Wells Fargo check and credit card discount. Check the web site before
going to print out the discount coupon if you hold either of these two cards!

Will Personalize A Comic To YOU!

Click Here to see our current listed MARVEL SUPERHEROES Comics, Books, and Graphic Novels!

That's Right!   Marci Beaucoux, Blogger for William Katt's endeavors, notified me that Catastrophic Comics has listed ten copies of the first issue of Stephen J Cannell's Greatest American Hero for sale on eBay.

The neat thing about these ten issues are that they sport the 'Red Variant Cover' Limited Edition version of the first issue.  The special issue's cover price is $9.99 and for a limited only, this issue will have an autograph by William Katt on the cover.  Plus for YOU, if you want, you can ask William to personalize it to you or a friend!

The issue alone is retailed at $9.99 and in this special listing, the personalized signature to you would be added in for 'One Cent'!  There is a shipping & handling charge for the comic to be mailed to you.

The eBay listing for this special signed comic book can be seen by clicking here

If you or someone you know is into the show, and also a fan of William's, this signed or personalized comic could make a great gift!

(Please note:  This listing is NOT one of Make It So Marketing's... it comes directly from William's eBay enterprise.)
