It's The.... Legend Of Bill!

Click Here To See Our Ending Soonest Comics, Graphic Novels, Promo Comics and other Pop Culture items listed for sale!

By David Reddick

I've been meaning to mention this webcomic strip... For a while now, ever since I became Facebook Friends with Dave Reddick.

Long time readers of this Blog will know that I enjoy several Sword and Sorcery comic books including Robert E Howard's Conan the Barbarian, and Kull The Conqueror.

In addition I enjoyed reading short-lived series such as Wulf the Barbarian and IronJaw from the defunct Atlas-Seaboard Comics.  Also I'll throw in a 'Claw' comic or two from the cancelled DC Comics series.  Heck, I even pick up the occasional Groo The Wanderer from Sergio Aragones and Mark Evanier for good measure!

Plus I can hardly wait to see the upcoming Red Sonja theatrical film that was previewed at the 2008 San Diego Comic Con!

However this webcomic isn't about the 'savagery' side of the Sword and Sorcery genre that is normally brought to mind by the mainstream public.  The 'Legend of Bill' is fun reading in its' own much lighter way and thus can appeal to many readers that wouldn't usually read a Sword & Sorcery comic book.

And this is a webcomic that I enjoy coming back every so often to catch up on the latest strips that have been posted online since I last read one.  The webcomic is published online every Monday and Thursday.

So what is the 'Legend of Bill' all about?  Well, I'll let David's own words say what the concept is:

Legend of Bill is about wannabe barbarian Bill and his best pal Frank the blue dragon, who, unsatisfied with their mundane lives as file clerk interns in the local castle accounting department, decide to set off for adventure in the free-as-a-bird life of a roaming barbarian and his dragon… and man are THEY in for a big wake-up call!!! Along the way, they meet Princess Gina, a tough as nails warrior princess on a mission, the Dark Queen, who has a thing for Bill, and a gob more oddball characters on their shameless quest for adventure!

So if the above is something that you think you could enjoy reading, then give it a try by starting at the first strip that started last year on May 27th, 2008 by following the link shown below:

http://www.legendofbill.com/2008/05/27/the-legend-begins/

(Note: A complimentary copy for this mention / review was NOT provided by the author as it is online only.)

By the way, David Reddick is also known for his illustrations for CBS, Paramount, Star Trek Magazine, Nickelodeon and more!  The 'Legend of Bill' is just one of his projects that you may enjoy!  If you are on Facebook, you can check out his fan page aptly titled 'Fans of Sci-Fi Cartoonist David Reddick'!

Place A Backing Board Behind Your Paper Collectible!

Place A Backing Board Behind Your Paper Collectible!

Click Here To See Our Current Listings of Comics, Graphic Novels, Promo Comics and other Pop Culture items listed for sale!

Part 2 of A 3 Part Series by Michael D Hamersky

Yesterday I started... Reposting a little series of blog posts about how you should protect and store your paper collectibles. That would include comics, graphic novels, trade paperbacks, full size trading card sheets and more.  It had been almost two years since I last addressed this issue online.

I first published this 3 part series due to all of the collections that I was being offered to buy, and finding that most were never stored properly!  Plus the would be sellers thought that they should get the Near Mint (NM 9.4) Guide Price for Comics that weren't even in 'Good' (G 2.0) Guide Grade.  The HoRRoRs of It All!

If you missed Part 1 of this 3 part series, Click here to read!

Now today is the reposting of that 2nd blog:

Backing Boards Are Important

Backing Boards are sold in different thicknesses and different acid-free properties. You use a backing board for the basic purpose of giving the comic book some stiffness when storing, which helps keep the comic cover and pages from bending, creasing or wrinkling.

Additionally if you place a backing board in the center of the comic, the board will help protect the comic book spine from crushing when stored with other comics.

The second reason for using a backing board to protect a comic is its' potential to neutralize acid that is in the comic book paper. Seriously, acid in the paper that the comic is printed on can cause deterioration of the comic!

Using an acid-free backing board with your comic book can trap and neautralize the acid in the paper.

There are normally three types of comic book backing boards:

Economy Comic book backings, Standard Acid Free Comic book backing boards, and Archival comic book backing boards.

Economy comic book backing boards should be used only for short-term storage and stiffening purposes! These cheaper economy boards do contain acid and can contribute to the earlier breakdown of the comic book. The general eBay public and or dealers generally use these boards for quick sale items as they are the least expensive boards and do help protect during transit of the items.

Standard acid-free comic book backing boards are acid-free and can be used for long-term storage. The cost of these are a little higher, but collectors should consider using these for their personal collections!

The most expensive and best boards are archival comic backing boards which are acid-free and buffered with calcium carbonate. This will help keep your comic book in great condition for many additional years.

The next subject we will cover will be comic book bags which will be discussed in an upcoming blog post! !

If however, you decide NOT to sell your comics, and find that you have been bitten by the 'collecting bug' after bagging and boarding your own comics, then check out our eBay Featured Comic Book Store for more comic related collectibles

Thanks for viewing this comic book blog post.... and feel free to post your comment below. This blog post is written for the 'mainstream' blog post reader as well as the collector, so some of this may be of a more general nature at first reading!

And thus ended the original blog post... Thanks again to all of YOU reading our current and archived blog posts... This ends Part 2 of my 3 Part Series on how you should protect and store your paper collectibles.  Stay 'tooned for Part 3 later!

~ Michael
