My Thanks to William Katt, The Real Greatest American Hero for taking the time to talk and pose with me @ the 2009 San Diego Comic Con International!

Earlier this morning I finished sending a re-write of the chapter I was asked to write for an upcoming book to my Editor...

Having that out of the way made me feel good!

Just like I felt 'good' reading the final issue of what has turned out to be a well written and illustrated three issue 'origin story arc' of 'The Greatest American Hero' from Catastrophic Comics / Arcana Comics!

Sure, it may have been a little bit of nostalgia reading the comic book series, but you can also see by the front cover of issue #3 above, that the series has been updated to the 2000's!

Issue #3 is actually the final installment in the 'origin story arc' of the comic book title.   I am hoping that there will be a continuation of new adventures for this title from Catastrophic Comics that has the blessing from the TV Show creator Stephen J. Cannell!

After the 2008 San Diego Comic Con International (SDCCI) I blogged about seeing the Greatest American Hero Panel.  I was fortunate enough to see William Katt, Connie Selleca, and Robert Culp at that special program.  It was there that William announced that there would be a comic book title named after the show they were all in!  I looked forward to seeing that title, and have blogged a few times about the earlier two issues, and also seeing William Katt at this year's 2009 SDCCI.

It was at last month's SDCCI that I picked up the third issue, and have since read it.  I get so many comics / graphic novels sent in that it does take time to read and then review via blogging the ones that I want to bring to my blog readers attention!

This 3rd issue does tie up the origin story arc, but also has a teaser for what could come next.  I suggest that you take a look at the issues if you were a fan of the show.  The show's flavor does carry over to this print format very well.  That's due to the script by William Katt, Derek McCaw, and Christopher Folino.  Plus the pencils and inks by Clint Hilinski.  The full package was edited nicely by Editor Sean O'Reilly.

You should be able to pick up copies of the three issues published so far from your usual sources.  If not, Catastrophic Comics does have an eBay Store also!

If after reading this title you find yourself interested in what William Katt and Catastrophic Comics are doing next and what other comic conventions they may be attending, check them out at: http://www.catastrophiccomics.com

BTW, unless we are on site all day and night during a three day or longer comic con... we do blog daily on comic book creators, comic book reviews, and pop culture news and events!

Plus, check out our new listings of comics, graphic novels, Comic Con exclusives and more pop culture items for sale in our own online eBay Featured Store that our blogs are based on

Thanks again to all of YOU reading our current and archived blog posts!!

Continuing my blogs on comics that I have recently received for review and that I want to blog about here...  is one from Dial 'C' For Comics!   I haven't read one of their offerings before, so I looked at it with an open mind, ready for anything.

Which was a good thing to do, because the title of the comic was 'Miserable Dastards', with the 'Dastards' word being covered up a bit on the front cover, making me look twice as to what the word really was...

Not really knowing for sure what 'Dastards' were, I'm glad that the editor of this comic got that out of the way real quick on the inside front cover!  (See top right insert of this post.)

Okay, now the front cover made more sense for me!  The super-villain being taken away by the police with the 'Thugs', (dastards), being tied up by the super-heroes, who were taking off from the scene!

The interior penciling by Jeremy Dale for this issue was superb, flowing with the storyline by Richard A Hamilton. The inks by Rob Jones with colors by Jelle Van Den Brink were in keeping with the whole issue's presentation, (Great!).  The lettering by Steven Prouse did what lettering is supposed to do...and did it well!  The cover by Rob Hicks, Rob Jones & Miguel Marques da Silva was top notch, except for the super-heroes cape that obscured the 'Dastards' masthead, which may have been intentional?  So as to emphasize the 2nd word of the title by bringing the reader's eyes there?

The phrase 'Making the BAD Guys Look GOOD!'  was used on the bottom of the front cover.   If that truly was the intent of the creator of this title, then the presentation did do that for me!  I enjoyed the story of the dastards, and felt for them during the issue.  This was a good concept, and was presented well.

I recently re-watched the 1960's Batman TV Show episodes and enjoyed seeing so many character actors portray the henchmen during my viewings.  So I was kind of set up to liking the henchmen / dastards of this comic, or at least emphasizing with them.  I would look forward to reading the next issue, as this was just #1 of the series!

Note: This issue's cover price was not marked with a cost, as it was an 'Exclusive Convention Preview' issue.  This issue was presented to me at The Antidote Trust Booth during the San Diego Comic Con International 2009 days as part of a package of comics to possibly review.

However, I do see that 'The MISERABLE DASTARDS Graphic Novel'  was made available in the July 2009 Previews Catalog as a "Spotlight" and "Certified Cool" item!  So just use Diamond code JUL09 0837 to reserve your copy or back order it at Your LCBS now!

The 96 page, full-color graphic novel retails for only $9.99, and it should be a good series to read, based on what I read in issue #1 !

For more info on this comic book title, or to see what else is being published, please check out the publisher's web site at:  http://www.dialcforcomics.com/

As a reminder... This is the 2nd comic book title that I've blogged about that was distributed at The Antidote Trust's (TAT) booth at the 2009 SDCC.  The earlier blog post on 'The Roach' comic book mini-series by Robert Roach was reviewed here: 'The Roach' Review.  Which, BTW, is MY Favorite indie mini-series in a Long Time!

My thanks to Dale Wilson of DWAP Productions for 'turning me on' to this Group's titles, that are all independently published, but following guidelines set by TAT.  (Dale's Caffeine Dreams Issues #1-3 are reviewed here from earlier in the year.)

Artist Steve Scott to Appear at Mini MegaCon this Weekend!

Click Here to see our NEWLY LISTED Comics, Graphic Novels, Toys, Fanzines and Prozines!

Above: Steve Scott in Brussels, Belgium at a convention!

To the Left:  I Just love Hulk vs Thing matchups... this one is by Steve Scott!

Alright... I gotta admit... as an ex-Marvel Zombie, I can't help but get excited at seeing the Hulk vs Thing match-up at the top left of this blog post...

Which is what artist Steve Scott's agent, Renee Witterstaetter, got my attention on, what with her Press Release about Steve exhibiting at the Mini MegaCon this weekend!

Renee sent the above two pics and a couple more of Steve's works to me along with the press release.  The fact is... The Thing is my favorite comic book character of all time, and when someone can do him justice like Steve did above... well, I'll take a look at what else there is for possible mention!

The following are excerpts from the Press Release:

Orlando, Florida--Mini MegaCon is shaping up to be one BIG show August 22nd-23rd, with  X-Men Forever artist Steve Scott also now slated to be at the event, joining a line-up of tremendous talent.

Steve's  work can currently be seen on the best-selling  "X-Men Forever" series with writer Chris Claremont.  Not to mention that Steve is  the ONLY artist tapped by DC Comics to do work relating to "Batman Forever," depicting the now legendary turn of Heath Ledger as The Joker. Look for Steve's work in the Blue-Ray disc release of the movie!

Steve is no stranger to media tie-in's.  His work is often seen on the television show Smallville and in other special projects for DC Comics,  as well as his pencil work for the recent "Indiana Jones--Tomb of the Gods," comic book series for Dark Horse to tie-in with the most recent hit Harrison Ford movie! (In fact, George Lucas liked Steve's work so much that he purchased most of the originals to keep for himself! )

Beginning his comics career at  Malibu Comics with his wildly popular stint on "Razor" for London Night, as well as "New Warriors," "Hourman," and "JLA" for Marvel and DC,  Steve's pencils have also appeared in the pages of "Shadowpact," "The Creeper" with writer Steve Niles, "Batman Legends of the Dark Knight," and "Checkmate." He got a particularly special kick out of bringing to life some of DC Comics strangest characters like Detective Chimp, Rex the Wonder Dog, Rag Man, The Phantom Stranger and many others.

Recent and current projects at Marvel Comics, and DC Comics include working with industry legends Louise Simonson and Chris Claremont on the titles "Magik" and "Exiles," the "Marvel Adventures" line featuring Fantastic Four, Avengers, and the Hulk, work on "She-Hulk," and a Kyle XY one shot for Disney/ABC with writer Jeff Parker.

In other words, he's busy making comics, which is a good thing for his ever growing number of fans.

Recently returned from a signing tour in Belgium, France and the Netherlands, look for more of Steve's work in "X-Men Forever," as well as some surprises to be announced soon! Steve Scott will be available both days of Mini MegaCon for signing and sketching. Saturday 10 am to 7 pm and Sunday 10 am to 5 pm.

My thanks to Renee for sending this to my attention!

BTW, other guests that are joining Steve at the Mini MegaCon in Orlando Florida this weekend include: Amanda Conner, Darwyn Cooke, Dick Giordano, Greg Horn, Jimmy Palmiotti, Casey Jones, Phil Noto, Christian Slade, Tony Bedard, Sergio Cariello, Jim Cheung, Terry Cronin, Chuck Dixon, Drew Geraci, Greg Land, Alvin Lee, Jeff Parker, Mike Perkins, Brandon  Peterson, Renee Witterstaetter, Sylvester McCoy, Lisa Loring, Felix Silla, Vic Mignogna, Amanda Stevens, Rob Hunter, plus many more!

The convention will be located at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando Florida, August 22nd and 23rd. For more information visit http://www.megaconvention.com/

And, for more information on Steve Scott and his work, contact Renee Witterstaetter at: evaink@aol.com

Political Power: Colin Powell From BlueWater Comics!

Political Power:

Colin Powell

From

 Bluewater Comics!

Continuing my blogs on comics that I have recently received for review and that I want to blog about here...  is another one from Bluewater Comics!   This company keeps publishing many comics that are of interest to me as a reader!

This issue is from a series of one shot publications on those who have wielded political power in recent years or are currently.  I do not express my political views in my Blog.  However this issue transcends political views and parties and tells a good story about this person who has been in the news for several years and how his actions have affected the general population.

Actually this issue goes into more depth than you would think, even though it is in a 22 page 'floppy' stand alone issue, and not a graphic novel.

Which I believe is due to the writer, Wey-Uih Loh.  Biographies sometimes can be a little dull, but Wey keeps the storyline moving, without sensationalizing the character.  Good job there Wey!

M. Scott Woodward is the penciler on this issue. The likeness of Colin Powell is well represented on the pages.  The artwork also flowed with the dialogue and got the story moving within the limits of the 22 pages and was paced well.

Kirsty Swan's colors were in keeping with going into the past, both during Colin's childhood and his rising through the ranks of the US Army.

Lettering by Wilson Ramos Jr. was very good, even with all the narrative text and the actual dialogue.  Sometimes lettering can get in the way of the art, but that did not happen here, even with all of the narrative and dialogue in this text heavy storyline.

The front cover by Vinnie Tartamella was a striking one,  one that should attract casual browsers at the bookstores or local comic book stores and turn them into buyers...

The storyline covers from when Colin was a kid up until when he left office as Secretary of State.  The sequential art concept is a good one for presenting biographies.  This one did so without shoving any political views in my face as a reader.  Good Job!

This issue's cover price was $3.99, well worth the price for this stand alone issue #1 in the series of Political Power.

For more info on the Political Power series with previous and upcoming issues, please see the Bluewater Comics web site at:  http://www.Bluewaterprod.com
