TODAY'S FEATURE - Blog #3348: (Vinnie) Today I will be reviewing Fraggle Rock Volume 2 Issue #1. As I wanted to do some blogs for my dad, I asked if there were any age appropriate publications to review, and of course, there were. So while going through the "to review" stack, I saw Fraggle Rock, and remembered doing a blog about an earlier issue previously (which can be found here). I asked if I could review it and he gladly accepted, and here it is now. Please keep in mind while reading this review; this is an anthology comic, and has three stories. Here is what the publisher says this publication contains: Fraggle Rock Vol. 2 - #2 (of 3): The Fraggles have solved many mysteries throughout Fraggle Rock, but in this new issue of Archaia's acclaimed Fraggle Rock series, they attempt to solve the greatest of them all! Joe LeFavi and Heidi Arnhold (Legends of the Dark Crystal) explore what it truly means to live when Gobo undertakes a quest to determine "The Meaning of Life." But what will he have to sacrifice along the way? After that, Mokey struggles to find "The Perfect Words" in a thoughtful story from Tim Beedle (Muppet Robin Hood) and Eisner Award-nominated artist Ross Campbell (Shadowless, Wet Moon). Finally, Boober's seeing monsters in "The Fraggle Who Cried Monster," a hilariously warped tale from the minds of Jason M. Burns (A Dummy's Guide to Danger) and Chandra Free (The God Machine). Story 1: The Meaning of Life This story was my favorite, and the longest. To be exact, it was 21 pages. I liked the art, as it was cartoony and goofy, which is what I think of when I think of Fraggle Rock. The story was interesting, and I do believe it told a tale of the meaning of life, in a more child-friendly way, but it was still a life lesson. The coloring was vibrant and beautiful, and some things sort of "popped". Story 2: The Fraggle Who Cried Monster This was my least favorite story of the three, and contained only 6 pages. The art was dreadful and gloomy, and completely unlike my invisioning of Fraggle Rock. This story had multiple monsters that may be scary to younger readers, so be warned if you are planning to read this with young ones. The story was seeming to be a bit repetitive and one of the major events happened three times, each with different monsters, being the only difference, really. To be honest, I didn't care for this story. Story 3: The Perfect Words I didn't "love" this story, but I didn't dislike it either. I must say it was above average, and above the previous story. It was the shortest of the stories, with only 5 pages. The art was just a little bit weird-looking, but at least the colors were vibrant and it wasn't scary. The story was okay, but it wasn't actually exciting until the ending. To sum it up, this story was just average. Some higher rated qualities of it took the blow of the lower rated qualities. At the end of the stories was an activity page, done by Katie Cook. I quite enjoyed the idea of it, and it was represented in a way kids can understand it. It included words, and diagrams, and was perfectly clear on how to do the finger painting of some of the Fraggle Rock characters. I enjoyed this actually, and thought it was a good idea to have included it in the book. It sort of tied it all together. Overall, I did enjoy this book, just that I enjoyed some stories more than others. I give this comic, Fraggle Rock Volume 2 Issue #2 a Very Fine / Very Fine Plus (VF/VF+), an 8.25 out of a 10.0 grade scale. ~Vinnie! ------------------- (From Michael:) Note to those reading this blog post: Fraggle Rock Vol 2 #2 of 3, went on sale: January 26th...
