Michael D Hamersky On Comics Presents His Take On What He Is Watching On Television...

The Adventures of Superman On MeTV!

TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #4020 -    I have blogged about several TV shows in the past that I was watching.  Most of them had comic book connections or were TV shows that were promoted at Comic-Con International or Wonder Con.

Today I'm blogging about a TV show that is on the classic TV network, Memorable Entertainment TV (Me TV).

That show would be the Adventures of Superman.  Yes, I watched this TV show as a kid, but not too many episodes.  You see I was born in 1952, and this TV show ran for six seasons, from 1952 to 1958. Of course there have been re-runs since then nationwide.

I've been watching the episodes run on Saturday night by recording them to watch later.

Now with the new year of 2015 starting... MeTV has decided to run this series six times a week.  Keeping the Saturday night slot, while adding the 4 pm late afternoon slot during the week in addition.

So I'm now recording this series as well during all six days, as I don't recall seeing that many of them.

The series of course stars George Reeves as Clark Kent / Superman.  Plus I've met Noel Neill who played Lois Lane in seasons two through six.  (See this link for my blog on the 2008 San Diego Comic Con panel.)  Plus Jack Larson playing the role of Jimmy Olsen was pretty good too!

The stories in each episode are basically simple to follow, you don't have to have an extensive background in Superman's history to follow along.  The show was aimed at kids, but as an adult, I find the 30 minute episodes ranging to be okay to pretty good to watch.  I am recording each day's episodes to watch later in the evening.

The episodes have now reached the year that the show was filmed in color.  Which should make it easier for today's kids to watch.  I know mine in years past just couldn't get into black & white tv shows.

The show runs on MeTV weekdays from 4 to 5 pm.  Set your recorder to tape this show! ...

The comic book connection to this TV show?  Well, as stated at the ending credits of each episode, the show was featured in Action Comics and Superman comics.  Here is a link to what Superman comics there are to read.  You'll notice that there are a lot of foreign comics as well as USA published series in that list.

I do have a few Superman comics for sale at my online comic book shop, ComicBooksCircus.com.

My thanks to Me TV for expanding the airing of this classic TV show to six days a week!

~Michael

Bonanza On MeTV!

TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #4019 -    I have blogged about several TV shows in the past that I was watching.  Most of them had comic book connections or were TV shows that were promoted at Comic-Con International or Wonder Con.

Today I'm blogging about a TV show that is on the classic TV network, Memorable Entertainment TV (Me TV).

That show would be Bonanza.  Yes, I watched this TV show as a kid, as it was one that was a family show, or at least when I watched it with my folks.

The show ran from September 12th of 1959 to January 16th of 1973.

I missed the early seasons of the TV show as it ran on Saturday nights from 7:30 to 8:30 pm.   (From 1959 to 1961.)  Then it moved to Sunday nights, running from 9 to 10 pm.

I remember the less violent seasons, not like the first two seasons that have been showing recently on Me TV. It is a wonder that the show ran for those years.  But it was one of the few TV shows filmed in color and the major sponsor of the show sold TV sets.  So now you know...

As the seasons progressed the show became less 'clanish' and the Cartwrights opened up to outsiders.  Plus the violence (gunplay) was toned down.  The later years were more talking about guns instead of using them.

I found the show enjoyable back then in the 1960s and even more so now in the 2014 -15 era when I can see the early seasons on a daily basis on MeTV.  I would recommend recording this show and viewing at a better time for you and your family to watch together.

The comic book connection to this TV show?  Well, here is the link to the many comic books that were published from 1962 to the early 1970s by Gold Key Comics (Western).

I've read many of those issues over the years, but not all of them.  They are a little harder to find now, and usually in Fine (6.0) grade for the most part.  I do have western comic books for sale at my online comic book shop, ComicBooksCircus.com.

You can watch this series or record it at 2PM on MeTV as I do!

~Michael

The Herman's Hermits Concert At Sycuan Casino Featuring Peter Noone!

TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #4018 -    I left Sycuan Casino's Live & Up Close concert hall last night, singing that song, as well as many others that were in attendance there!   As that was the closing song in a 65 minute concert presented by Peter Noone, lead singer of the British Invasion Rock Group, Herman's Hermits!

Yeah, I'm old enough to remember them in their heyday, from 1962 - 1970, (see their Wikipedia entry for the group's history.)

There are actually two groups touring right now, presenting themselves as Herman's Hermits.  As Peter Noone was the lead singer of the group, I decided to check them out when they came to El Cajon, California.

Peter sang other period pieces, interspersed between his group's hits.  Matter of fact, he imitated Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones with a song from that group, as well as Davy Jones of the Monkees singing 'Daydream Believer'.

Peter really put on a performance, but also hi-lighted his band members.

This was really a very good concert, although it was only 65 minutes in length.  If this group visits your town, and you like 1960s oldies songs, I would recommend seeing them!

And if you are wondering what this concert review is doing in a comic book blog... Would you believe that Herman's Hermits were featured inside several comic books, as well as on the covers?

Here are the links to just a few:

Go-Go #1 from Charlton Comics in 1966

Career Girl Romances #32 from Charlton Comics in 1966

Tippy Teen #3 from Tower Comics in 1966

Josie #28 from Archie Comics .in 1967

Tippy Teen #20 from Tower Comics in 1968

I'm sure there are more comics that Herman's Hermits are featured in... But that is enough for now.

Oh, and I have photos from the concert at my Facebook Fan Page:

Herman's Hermits Concert

My thanks to Sycuan for sponsoring this concert & to Peter Noone & the band for a great concert!

~Michael

Merry Christmas to All!

TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #4017 -    It is Thursday, December 25th of 2014!   Merry Christmas to all of you reading today's blog post!

It has been a while since I've posted.

Several of you know about the divorce I've gone through in 2013-14.  I'm getting better...

I have also relocated, further South from Carlsbad.   Which puts me about 45 minutes further South from the comic cons in the Los Angeles / Orange Counties areas.  Thank goodness there a few conventions in the San Diego area!

I do plan on attending a few conventions in 2015, of which I will write up in the blog.

Also for 2015, I've already purchased four days attendance of the Comic-Con International, which is getting harder to get into each year.  I'm just missing preview night next year, which is okay, considering how several of my friends don't have any days purchased at this time.  That lottery system is something else..

The year 2014 has been an okay one... Which I'll cover in my New Year's blog.

I want to take the time to wish all of you a Merry Christmas Day, Season's Greetings, Happy Hanukkah, and other greetings.      ~Michael

Michael D Hamersky On Comics Presents His Take On...

The 2014 San Diego Comic Fest...
In Total

TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #4016 -    It is the Monday after the three day 2014 San Diego Comic Fest...

First, let me tell you that I am associated with this comic convention.  I am the administrator of the Facebook Fan Page for the San Diego Comic Fest, and have been since it started being organized three years ago by Mike Towry, who is a co-Founder of the San Diego Comic Con, now called Comic-Con International.

You can see my name, as well as the other Committee members in the Program Guide on pages 4 & 5 of this year's publication.  There are a lot of staff members involved with putting on a comic convention, that's for sure!

Anyway's here's 'My Take' on this year's third annual show:

Programs -  This to me is the highlight of the San Diego Comic Fest.  As you can see by the online presentation of the schedule, (this link), there was a lot of programming!   Saturday and Sunday, my youngest son and I attended almost non-stop, a program every hour!   There was a lot of variety in topics also, from films to sci-fi to comics and more.  This is what makes this San Diego Comic Fest a 'Must See' show!

Music Tent - Yes... A 'Music Tent'.  And there were several good bands there as well.  Madus, Leave The Universe, Digital Lizards of Doom were the bands that we listened to.  But there were several others.

The Twilight Zone Cafe -  Which was a tribute to Rod Serling's TV show.  It was nice that his daughter was there to talk about her dad.   The prices of the food were very reasonable, and I ate healthy for a change!  The cafe was also the setting for the Friday night party, the Jerry Siegel Centennial Celebration Party!  See the top photo of Laura Siegel Larson along with her two sons cutting the Superman cake.  Laura is the daughter of Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel.  This was a good place to meet new people and get caught up with friends from the past.

Le Sommet - Which was basically the Childrens Programming room during the Fest.  A good place to bring your kids or grandkids to.

Artists Alley - Up to 36 different artists were showcased in this small room, but fun was had by all that attended!

The Dealers Room - There were a few less tables this year, due to Fire Marshall guidelines... But still plenty to see and buy!

Registration - This operation went smoothly, even though more admission tickets had to be printed!

Masked Ball - A good time was had by those that attended.

And yes, there were other activities... But I didn't attend those, so I'll not mention them.

Once again, I had a great time at this smaller in size show.  The aim was for about 2,000 total attendees.

Where the 2015 San Diego Comic Fest will be located is anybody's guess at this time.  As the East side of the Town and Country Resort & Hotel is being torn down and replaced with condos next year.  But I'll keep you posted as to where the Comic Fest will be...

My thanks to all my fellow San Diego Comic Fest Staff members for putting on a pretty darn good show this year!.

Here are the links for you to follow and read more:
