Number Four Thousand!

TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #4000 -    Yes... This is Blog #4000!

It has taken several years to reach this milestone, and I am proud to haved made it this far...

This blog started as an eBay blog back in September of 2007.  I won a cash award from eBay for my blog during their start up campaign for eBay blogs, and proceeded to continue my blog after eBay shut down their blogging platform.  This blog is now reaching the end of its 7th year of publication.

There haven't been as many blog posts for the past ten months, and I'll tell you why.

You see I'm at the end of ten months of going through a divorce, which should be over after Comic-Con International 2014 ends this upcoming weekend.  The divorce should be final the end of July.

It has been hard to keep my mind on this blog... I used to blog once a day or even more, but with the divorce affecting my mental state, I've been both up and down on continuing this publication.

Add to that the fact that I've relocated to Chula Vista, (the South Bay area of San Diego), from North County San Diego.  So there has been an adjustment period that I have been going through...

That doesn't mean that I haven't been attending comic cons these past ten months... I've blogged about attending the 2013 San Diego Comic Fest, the 2013 So Cal Comic Con, the 2013 Long Beach Comic & Horror Con, the 2014 Wonder Con in Anaheim, the 2014 Free Comic Day event, the 2014 Long Beach Comic Expo, and the 2014 San Gabriel Valley Comic Book Expo in Baldwin Park.

Plus this week is the 45th year of the (San Diego) Comic-Con International which I'm attending.  Well... Attending 2 of the 4 days of the con.   That's because I was only able to obtain badges for Thursday and Sunday.  Yes... The first time 1991 when the con moved from Golden Hall to the San Diego Convention that I'm going to miss a day, (well two days that is!).

So, I'm picking myself up from this blow, and attending the off site events that others are throwing on Friday and Saturday.

Matter of fact, I'm attending a preview event tonight.  It is called the "Comic-Con Advance Party at the old Spaghetti Factory" that Greg Koudoulian is hosting. It is being held in the upstairs bar at the Spaghetti Factory.  Parking can be found at a garage at 6th & K Streets.

So even though I've been rocked hard by both the divorce and the lack of obtaining all 4 days & preview night at the Comic-Con... I'm still hanging in there.

I'm glad that you are reading this and hopefully you will be back for more reading in the weeks to follow.

Oh, and I'm once again celebrating my Birthday at Comic-Con!  Thursday, one of the two days I will be at the Con, is my 62nd Birthday!   That is nice that I will be able to attend there on my Birthday.    Plus the fact that I'm now able to take early retirement.

Thanks again for being here to read my 4,000th blog post!

~Michael

TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #3992 -    I'm posting a few photos here from last Saturday's ART from the HEART show.   This was a one woman art show, that was presented by Batton Lash at the ArtLab Studios in the Normal Heights area of San Diego, California.

The show ran from 7PM to 10 PM, but I and my friend, Angelica, arrived early to shoot some photos of the gallery before it got busy.

I've blogged about Barbara Marker, Batton Lash, and ArtLab Studios before.  They are both great artists, and the ArtLab Studios is a fine place to exhibit art at.  David Rodger runs a great place for events at his ArtLab Studios.

I've seen Barbara's work before, but have mainly blogged about her comic book work.  At Saturday night's art show, the emphasis was on all of her other work.   That included abstract, animal art, unicorns, fantasy, and realistic art.

This is the link to the rest of the photos that I took that night.  Where you can see her work, and others that attended the art show.

Everyone had a good time that I could see, and Batton Lash presented a very fine exhibit of Barbara's works!

Michael D Hamersky On Comics Presents His Take On The...

The Final Night of  the 2013 Leo Carrillo Film Festival Season

Here's Adventure... Here's Romance... The Cisco Kid!

TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #3956 -     Last night, Tina and I attended the Final Night of the 2013 Leo Carrillo Film Festival.

As mentioned in the last review blog, the Leo Carrillo Historic Ranch is celebrating its 10th Anniversary up big with this year's Film Festival.

Last night was quite a bit different from the normal presentations shown at this Film Festival.

That's because it had Richard Renaldo, son of Duncan Renaldo, as the main feature.

Richard and additional guest, Carol Waffel, were on hand to talk about the June 2013 Award given to Duncan Renaldo and Leo Carrillo.

Duncan & Leo were inducted into the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. For induction the actors needed to have made a significant contribution to the perpetuation of Western film, radio or theatre. They must project the traditional Western ideals of honesty, integrity and self-sufficiency.

Richard then gave a presentation on 'The Cisco Kid in Film', a very entertaining & informative narration.

The next feature was what appeared to be a 1981 remix of an old 'Cisco Kid' TV episode featuring Duncan & Leo.

Then after intermission, was the 1949 feature film, Satan's Cradle, which was presented in black & white.

All in all this evening proved to be very satisfying to me. It was the first time that the Leo Carrillo Film Festival was devoted to the 'Cisco Kid' for the evening to my knowledge.

I'm really pleased with attending several of the 2013 Leo Carrillo Film Festival evenings this season, including the special Dinner & A Movie Night that kicked off the Season.

Oh, and the tie-in to comic books is the Cisco Kid series from Dell Comics. There are 41 issues of this series, as seen at this link.

My thanks to Charles Balteria and his staff for a great 2013 Season!

The 1949 Film, 'Satan's Cradle' Was The Feature Film on Friday Night!  Here's a Scene with Duncan Renaldo, Douglas Fowley, and Ann Savage!

Tina decided to have her photo taken with the Star of the Night, Duncan Renaldo, aka The Cisco Kid!

The First Feature of the Night was a 'History of the Cisco Kid', narrated by Richard Renaldo, Son of Duncan Renaldo!

Michael D Hamersky On Comics Presents His Take On The...

The September 6th of 2013 Event at the Leo Carrillo Film Festival Season

Held At the Leo Carrillo Ranch in Carlsbad, California!

TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #3946 -     Last Friday night, Tina and I attended the 3rd Night of the 2013 Leo Carrillo Film Festival.

Which was nice, because the whole day had been very hot by Carlsbad standards!

As mentioned in last week's review blog, the Leo Carrillo Historic Ranch is celebrating its 10th Anniversary up big with this year's Film Festival.

We saw the 1951 episode titled 'Uncle Disinherits Niece' of the Cisco Kid TV Show, followed by the 1940 feature film, 20 Mule Team. Those in attendance, (all 150 of them), seemed to enjoy both the Cisco Kid episode as well as the 1940 film!   It was a good role for Wallace Beery, but not as good of a role for Leo Carrillo though... Oh, and this was Anne Baxter's 1st film!

Also, once again, Phyllis Coates was featured in the Cicso Kid episode.  She of course was 'Lois Lane' in 26 episodes of the 1950s TV Series 'Adventures of Superman' from 1951-1953!

Another tie-in to comic books is the Cisco Kid series from Dell Comics. There are 41 issues of this series, as seen at this link.

Also... Here is the link to what else is playing this 2013 Film Festival Season.  There are only two nights left this season!

You must make a reservation in advance to be one of the 150 attendees of each Friday Night's film showing.  The cost is 'Free', and we always have great fun under the stars at this seasonal Film Festival!

~Michael

The 1940 Film, '20 Mule Team' Was The Feature Film on Friday Night!

 alt=
Wallace Beery (as Skinner Bill) and Leo Carrillo (as Piute Pete)!

 alt=
It Was Nice To Be Outside On Friday Night, As It Was Hot During The Whole Day!

 alt=
The Cabana Shack Was Full During The Intermission Period!

Note: You can see more photos from this event at this Special Photo Album on my Facebook Fan Page!
