For Jack Kirby Collectors

I have mentioned in an earlier blog post that we will be listing our own back issues of this publication early this year after I had read them one more time!

Well.... now's the time, as I am starting to list those in our eBay Featured (Premium) Store right now!

Be sure to continue to check back for those listings, as the earliest issues are OOP, (Out of Print), which is why they were 'Collected' into TPB format to begin with!

For those that need an intro to Jack Kirby... Think 'Fantastic Four', 'Mighty Thor', 'Darkseid', 'Incredible Hulk', 'Fourth World' of DC Comics Universe, just for starters!

Thanks for reading this popular culture - comics - comic books blog post and feel free to check out our listings by clicking on the top left photo!

So We Are Taking The Time To Feature Our African-American Superheroes!

Several times in the past we have been asked about African-American Super-heroes comic books.... basically why is it that we just don't list that many for sale.....???

Well, there really aren't that many mainstream African-American Super-heroes comic books listed here for sale.... because there just haven't been that many printed, period!

When attending the Wonder-Con comic book convention, when it was held in Oakland, California, we ran across a few independent publishers that were printing African-American Superheroes comics, but they were finding that distribution was hard to get going on their comics.

Since we basically sell comics from the Silver and Bronze Age eras of comics (1956 - 1982), we just picked up some for our own reading to see what they were like, but not for resale purposes.

For those interested in Black Superheroes from the Silver Age and Bronze Age comics we have the following notes....

...Power Man, also known as Luke Cage Hero for Hire, was a member of the Fantastic Four team for a while, when the Thing lost his powers temporarily.

Black Goliath was a friend of Hank Pym, who was Ant-man and then Giant-Man.

Black Lightning was a DC superhero.... written by Tony Isabella.

There just hasn't been that many titles printed with African-American superheroes...

However, the few that we do have, have been listed.  We have a few Black Goliath Luke Cage aka Power Man, Black Lightning, and a 'black Wakandan African King' Black Panther comic books listed in our eBay Featured Premium Store.

Thus we do salute the attempts by a few publishers to publish African-American superheroes, but like any other endeavor, the printers need support from the fan base.

Detroit Triple Fan Fair - Some Thoughts On The Early Days
Mood:  a-ok
Topic: Comic Cons

Click here to see all of our current Comic Con listings!

The above picture is of Detroit, Michigan many years ago!

The Michigan State Universities, Special Collections Division, has either Progress Reports or Program Books dating from 1969 to 1977 from the Detroit Triple Fan Fair history.

I am not for sure of the full history of the Detroit Triple Fan Fair, but will add to this blog as info is supplied.

The first Detroit Triple Fan Fair, (DTFF), was held at the Embassy Hotel. Admission Charge was only $2.00 for BOTH Days!

(For all of our currently listed Comic Con promotional comic books, buttons, bookmarks, and magazines, etc.,  just click on the photo of Detroit above!)

Detroit Triple Fan Fair!

Some Thoughts On The Early Days!

I met with Dan Murphy earlier today about his collection of items from when he was only 13 when the first Detroit Triple Fan Fair, (DTFF), was promoted.

For those of you that are not from that area, Detroit held one of the earliest 'Comic Cons' in the USA, tying New York City for the earliest!

When researching further for this blog post I found that the DTFF  was actually the  first multimedia convention ever held,  for comics, movies, and science fiction in 1965!

Currently Dan is going through his collection of items that were accumulated from the early 1960's that he will part with.

One item that is of historical value would be the 14" x 22" poster board that was used to promote the 1st Triple Fan Fair!  Dan is looking for a collector or museum that would like to purchase it to add it their collection. Just contact me for additional info!

The 1st DTFF was held July 24th and  25th, 1965!

Dan remembers Rich Buckler, Greg Theakston, Shel Dorf, and Larry Larson among others that were working on the Fair during the early years.

Matter of fact, the Poster Board that Dan has contains art by Larry Larson and Shel Dorf!

Rich Buckler went as a fan the first year, but ending up running things with Robert Brosch as co-chairmen of the Fair. Rich went on to develope Deathlok for Marvel, Reagan's Raiders for Solson, and other projects.

Initially the committe on the Triple Fan Fair were all sci-fi fans, which is how the early comic cons were modeled on!

The committee's nickname was 'The Misfits' for Michigan Science Fiction Society.

Shel Dorf went on to San Diego, where he was the (co)Founder of the San Diego Comic Con that has been blogged about so much here!

I will be sharing more of Dan Murphy's memories as they come in!

Browsers Wars !
Mood:  caffeinated
Topic: eBay Info

For Those That Wondered About Our Disclaimer On Browsers As Follows:

NOTE:  This Blog Post May Not Be Viewed Properly On YOUR Screen Due To the Changes eBay is Making on the Blog Format At this time OR In The Future!  Additionally, this blog post is written for IE Browsers. Netscape, Firefox and the others serve the page up differently.

The Following Pie Chart Is The Reason Why:

   Browser Warser Share
Browser Share

Ever since eBay Techs changed the blog format back in mid September 2007, I have added the above disclaimer that this Blog is written for IE Browsers primarily.

The reason is that the different browsers and even their differents versions will 'serve up' web pages differently, due to the differences in how they interpret HTML commands.

There are way too many differences in how browsers read the HTML, that we can't keypunch in all the different codes to reflect the nuances that the major browsers have.

Thus, it is in our disclaimer that our blog is set up in HTML for the current format that the eBay techs have and then if the archived blog posts get distorted by another eBay format change, then at least we've noted that is what could happen.

The majority of our blog post pre Sept 15th 2007 are now distorted, after eBay techs 'squeezed' in the area that the blog post would appear in on the eBay served up page.

Secondly, as you can see by the Pie Chart above, the majority of our blog visitors are using either IE 6 or 7 for a total of 72% of our blog visitors. Thus our efforts should be to have that browser and its' two most recent versions be the one that write for.

Additionally since Firefox is very similar to IE in the way that it 'serves up' our blog posts, then adding its' 22% share of the Pie would make it that 94% of our blog readership is being served up the pages as we write them.

Hope this clears up the disclaimer question that was posed to us by one of our readers!

Thanks for reading our pop culture - comics - comic book blog post!
