Lost

Returning Tonight

January 31st, 2008!

The most important thing for me to do tonight is to tape the episode so we can review it at our leisure!

This is probably the best thing that can happen during this WGA Strike, in that we have 'Lost' back... well maybe only for 8 episodes instead of a full 16, but hey... it's Back!

We have blogged about several episodes of this great TV Series in previous blog posts, should you want to refresh your memory or catch up to next season! Just Click Here To Choose From Our Previous Lost Archived Blog Posts!

Our apologies to our blog visitors that are coming via the eBay Blog Links...

For SIX DAYS now, our eBay Blog Posts, both NEW and ARCHIVED are not being served up properly by eBay Servers!

Until that time that the problem, (and we aren't the only ones experiencing this problem), is fixed, we are curtailing postings throughout the day, and directing our energies elsewhere, like maybe listing more items for sale!

For all of our currently listed comic book and magazines that are listed for sale in our eBay Featured Store, just click on the comic book cover above!

Not A Snow Day...

Just Another Poor Visibility Day...

Here At eBay Blog Land...

Since the morning of January 25th, Six Days Ago, our eBay Blog posts have had poor visiblity on the front page of the eBay Blogs IN ADDITION to not being found on the search window for past blog posts on 'comics', 'comic book', 'comic books', and other related keywords.

At times just a few of our 1550+ archived blog posts would show up, and then none that were posted after the night of January 24th which was the last time the eBay Blogs were working properly!

On the morning of January 25th, I was on the 'live help' with eBay for approx 25 minutes, during which time the eBay Blog just re-appeared by itself and since then has worked intermittently...

Our apologies to those that tried to access our blog posts for the last SIX DAYS. Circumstances are beyond our control of how the blog posts are or are not served up...

FYI, we also have the same or similar blog posts in our non-eBay Blog at:

http://www.comicbookcollectorsblog.com/

should this continue. That blog contains similar  blog posts, and is on a different server.

Our Blog had been averaging 698 visitors a day as of the morning of January 25th, and since then the numbers of visitors have fallen to an average of 534 visitors a day as of right now.

Again our apologies, it appears that whatever new 'upgrade' or 'improvement' to the eBay blogs is still affecting our blog posts visibility.

However, Thanks for reading this popular culture - comics - comic books blog post if you found it. We do appreciate it!

Michael (and Tina)

'Our Take' On:

American Idol

01-30-08

 In Miami !

This latest airing is still showing the auditions for Season 7, this time in Miami, Florida.

Here are 'our' (actually just mine as Tina was out of town) thoughts on just a few of the auditions shown aired on 01-30-08:

Again over 10,000 contestants competed here in Miami, (what's with the 10,000 number every time?).

Quite honestly, just like 01-29-08's airing, this episode was a little ho-hum to me again!

IMHO, this week's two episodes were a snooze fest for the most part...

Some 'standouts' from the night (good and bad):

1st up was Shannon McGough - a loud burper, 3 noes.

Randy was embarassed by two gals, Corliss Smith and Brittany Wescott, and then Brittany firts with Simon by singing her song to him.

Suzanne Toon - a single mom, 3 yeses.

Robbie Carrico - take a look at the video to the left.

2nd Day was not much better television wise... actually no real standouts for me...

Next week: the show auditions in Atlanta, Georgia.

Hopefully what is televised is better than this week's airings...!

Tina will be back for this blog post, but I am usually the one that gets more enterained by the auditions than she does...

Thanks for reading our pop culture - comics - comic book blog post!

'Our Take' On:

American Idol

01-29-08

 Very 1st Time There!

The latest airing is still showing the auditions for Season 7.

Here are 'our' (actually just mine as Tina was out of town) thoughts on just a few of the auditions shown aired on 01-29-08:

Again over 10,000 contestants competed in Omaha, with most of those shown on the air coming from around the surrounding states to Nebraska.

Quite honestly, this episode was a little ho-hum to me, especially since by the time it aired out here on the West Coast, the results were basically in from the Florida Primaries.

So, for the first time for this show, I had the TV Set on 'split screen', switching back and forth.

At first it was just Randy and Simon judging, as Paula's plane was delayed...

First up was a Chris Berneisel, who brought gifts, but he received 2 Noes, see video to the left.

Jason Rich of Stout, Iowa population 500, tried 4 times to complete his song... yet he still received 2 yeses.

Then Paula showed up.

There was a teaser game shown, as Jason had forgotten his lyrics, so we had to sit thru 'You Forgot The Lyrics' style game show with several contestants flubbing up.

Some standouts from the night (good and bad):

Rachael Wicker - arm wrestler 2 yeses.

Sarah Whitaker - ex pro wrestler.

David Cook - 3 yeses.

Leo Marlowe - 3 yeses.

This episode's best part IMHO was when Ryan and Paula exchanged duties, with Ryan juding one contestant, while Paula interviewed.

Kind of a ho-hum episode otherwise tonight...

End results: Only 19 from the Omaha Auditions get the Golden Ticket To Hollywood!

Tomorrow Night: the show auditions in Miami, Florida, which is funny because I was half watching the Florida Primaries Results tonight!

Thanks for reading our pop culture - comics - comic book blog post!

Warren Sattler - Comic Strip and Comic Book Artist!
Mood:  a-ok
Topic: Comic Book History

Click here to see all of our current Charlton Comics listings!

The above picture of Warren Sattler was from his induction into the
Meriden, Connecticut Hall of Fame, courtesy of Theodore (Tad) Sattler.

The following is from data that was found on the web:

Warren Sattler started cartooning at an early age. His first published work was in a newspaper when he was age 15.

Warren received his education at the Wilcox Technical School in Meriden, Connecticut.

For those of you that have seen the ads throughout the years... he later taught at the Famous Artists School from 1957 to 1962! That I thought was interesting!

Then in the 1960s, he assisted on the comic strips Barnaby and The Jackson Twins. Warren also had his own strip, Grubby, that was published from 1964 to 1997.

It was in the 1970s that Warren Sattler produced art for comic books, in particular for Charlton Comics Group!

Some of those Charlton Comics titles he worked on included Billy the Kid, Fightin' Army, Fightin' Marines, Ghost Manor, Ghostly Haunts, and Yang.

During the same time period he worked as an illustrator for Cracked magazine, National Lampoon, and also Playboy.

Warren also found the time to create a second syndicated comic strip in 1980! That was Swamp Brats, which was a Sunday-only strip.

Also, as Tad suggested in the column to the right, Warren also ghosted on such newspaper strips as Bringing Up Father, Comics for Kids, and Gil Thorp during the 1980s and 1990s.

For all of the above work and more, he was inducted into the Meriden Hall of Fame in the Year 2003.

I am glad that this Blog finally was able to bring Warren Sattler's many accomplishments to our readership with this blog post! Again my thanks to Theodore (Tad) Sattler for his contributions!

Warren Sattler!

Comic Strip AND Comic Book Artist!

This past week we sold a Charlton Comic Book, Yang #5 from our eBay Featured Store.

When we received payment, I noticed that there was a note from the buyer that was as follows:

"Warren Sattler, the artist of this comic, just happens to be my Uncle. Nice to have this issue in my collection! Thanks!
Theodore Sattler"

The Item listing was: #350011996476
Item Title: YANG #5 VF+ Martial Arts Charlton Comic Book SATTLER

After Theodore received his comic book, we corresponded further, and I found out more about Warren Sattler I wasn't aware of as follows:

"My Uncle did both the Yang and Billy the Kid comic books and he also freelanced alot doing bits for Cracked and Mad magazines. He also did a lot of substitute work for the daily comics as well where an artist would take leave for whatever reason and he
would just fill in drawing the strip in that
particular artist's style. I just picked up one of his
Country singles on eBay also. Yep, he's a singer too!
Thanks!
-Tad Sattler"

Well, I had not known about the above accomplishments, was aware of some of his work for Charlton, and figured that most of our blog readers would not know this information Tad sent over either.

Thus the reason for this blog post today!

My thanks to Tad (Theodore) for the info and for submitting the pic of his Uncle used at the top left of this blog post!

Thanks for reading this popular culture - comics - comic books blog post!
