Voyagers!

Was A 1982 TV Series!

And Is Now A DVD Set!

I have to admit that I am fascinated by Time Travel TV Series. Those series included 'Time Tunnel' in the 1960's, 'Quantum Leap' in the 1990's, and most recently 'Journeyman' in the 2000's.

One that I haven't blogged about in the past was the TV Series 'Voyagers!', which was broadcast in the 1982-1983 season on NBC.

Starting on October 3, 1982 the series had Phineas Bogg (played by Jon-Erik Hexum) as one of a society of time travelers called 'Voyagers'.

Phineas along with the help of a young boy named Jeffrey Jones, (who was played by Meeno Peluce), used a hand-held device called an 'Omni' (that looked much like an old time large pocket watch) to travel thru time and ensured that history unfolded as we knew it in 1982.

In the first episode Jeffrey ensured that baby Moses' basket traveled down the Nile where it was met by Pharaoh's daughter. With Jeffrey it wasn't going to turn out that way...

For you new viewers, I want to point out that there are several running gags in the episodes.

The biggest one is Phineas' lack of knowledge on important historical dates, so which the kid Jeffrey helps him set time right.

Phineas also has a fear of dogs, (i.e. Indiana Jones and snakes).

With his good looks, Phineas is of course a great womanizer and somehow falls for a beautiful woman almost every episode!

After blogging on this series, I realize now that I truly enjoyed this show when it was on... at the time it seemed like a kid's show, but it was good fun and escapist fare!

Don't Forget To Buy Program Books...

Click here to see Our SDCC listings!

I blogged earlier today about the FX International Convention being held this weekend in Orlando. Which reminded me about how nice it is to have the Program Book of the Cons I've attended throughout the years...

The above picture is of the Back Cover of the  1973 SDCC (San Diego Comic Con) Program Book!

The Con's name has gone thru several changes during the years, and is currently known as 'Comic-Con International'.

The Comic-Con International is contracted  to stay in San Diego for a few more years, then after that....??!

For SDCC items, including Program Books, just click on the Pic above to see what we currently have listed for sale!

A picture of Michael at the 1973 San Diego Comic Con held at Shelter Island, San Diego!

You'll notice the comics are not in standard 'short' boxes, and that they are mostly Marvel Comics, as I was a 'Marvel Zombie' back then!

At The Cons This Year To Keep Memories Alive!

The following is an excerpt from my article on my history with the SDCC (now known as the Comic Con International):

Well I wasn't going to let the 1973 SDCC, now named the San Diego Comic-Con, come and go without me! This time I had the days off of work, yes still at the San Diego Zoo, and I was set up as a dealer for all three days at the Sheraton Hotel, Harbor Island, in San Diego. I ran across the original check for the dealer table not too long ago, it is amazing what I paid then for 3 days versus what dealers paid for a booth last year at the San Diego Comic-Con International! Of course its' been 33 years since the photo above!

I set up alone at the SDCC that year in 1973, see picture to the middle left, and had the foresight to have my picture taken. Yes, that's me, 33 years ago, a young kid at having turned just 2l years of age the month before.

I was wearing a short-hair wig at the SD Zoo, because the big boss kept coming around us guys to get our haircut all the time, so we opted to wear short haired wigs and really let our hair grow..... and I had moved out of my parents' house, so I could have the length of hair I wanted to have. I have a lot less hair nowadays, and my mustache is a lot lighter in color, as well as my beard! Plus I have never been that skinny since my first marriage in 1975.... too much pasta since then!!

The comics on the table in front of me were just part of my stock, mostly Marvel comic books, with Captain Marvel, Amazing Spider-Man, Incredible Hulk, Tales of Suspense, and Daredevil pictured. I had almost complete collections of all the Marvel Comics printed by 1973, and these were my duplicates for sale.

I don't believe short boxes for comics had been invented by then...I do remember buying comic bags from Robert Bell to insert the comics into for protection. (I still buy collections that have these old Robert Bell bags from the 1970's!!) I remember doing well selling at this con, even though only approximately 1100 were in attendance! Since I was alone in this commerical venture, I was not able to break away from the table to see the comics pros that came that year. It was the first SDCC to attract real professional interest from the New York Pros.

Guests that year were Neal Adams, Carmine Infantino, Sol Harrison, June foray, Ray Bradbury, A. E. Van Vogt, Jack Kirby among others.

Looking back now at this photo from 1973, and at the 1984 SDCC Program Book that tells about the first 15 years of the SDCC, I am pleased that I did jump into selling at the earliest Comic Cons held out here on the West Coast!

It was a much simpler time, and so much fun!

Today, the SDCC International is up to 125,000 attendees and takes up both wings of the SD Convention Center.... and it is a Real Zoo to attend! (Pun intended!)

The above excerpt is from my 1973 Comic Con recollection. I have several of the latest years' Programs Books For Sale if you missed attending!
