Our 'Sky High' DVD Review Archived Blog Post....

...has been getting viewed quite a bit this past week.

The only thing that I can think of that makes this archived blog post viewed so often recently is that a minor character in the film was played by Lynda Carter!

Here is my original review as posted in the eBay Review Section:

Good Family Viewing For A Superhero Movie!
All right, this is another Superhero movie... seems to be a lot of them lately as everyone wants to get into the craze!

However this one is watchable for family viewing, as not all of them are!

This film has an ordinary teenager finding out he's not so ordinary after all!

The boy finds out that his high school, Sky High, is a special learning facility for the children of superheroes!

He finds out that his father is actually super-hero Captain Stronghold (Kurt Russell), and his mom is superheroine Josie Jetstream (Kelly Preston)!

The usual teenage angst comes into the movie, with fitting in or not fitting in, and finding out that the superheroes' kids have skills classes and are segregated by their skill levels.... somewhat like in European high schools!

Sky High also features Lynda Carter who will always be remembered as Wonder Woman!!

The film itself is a good family viewing DVD, I gave it a 4 out 5 rating earlier...

For those interested in additional superhero items, just click on the Lynda Carter photo to the left to see all of our DC Superhero Comics and Mags!

Vampira Has Passed Away....

The above is a picture of  Maila Syrjanieme Nurmi as 'Vampira'. When she turned seventeen, Maila decided to become an actress and promptly left Oregon to move to the Los Angeles area.

As many others in Hollywood would do she would between acting jobs she would take the occasional odd job to simply exist.

One of these jobs would be exotic dancing and cheesecake modeling for Bernard of Hollywood. His more popular known models included Irish McCalla, Marilyn Monroe, and Mamie Van Doren.

The Following Is A Repost of Our Archived Blog Plost:

Before Elvira.... There Was Vampira!

Part I

Maila Nurmi's fate changed in 1954 when she attended a masquerade ball called "The Bal Caribe" in Los Angeles.

She appeared with her husband, (writer and TV producer Dean Reisner), as the female character from Charles Addam's New Yorker magazine cartoons.

Those cartoons later came to be known as "The Addams Family".

Maila wore a long black wig, a torn tight black dress complete with bloody scratches just above her plunging neckline.

Later, when new program director for channel 7 in Los Angeles, Hunt Stromberg Jr., was needing someone to bump up those late night ratings, he would remember the "Bal Caribe" and Maila, who was such a sensation that night.

Hunt signed her to be the hostess for the channel 7 KABC's late night horror movie show.

Maila's husband contributed her name for the show and Vampira was born.

(To Be Continued...)

Our Take On 'Lord Of War' DVD!

A Message Movie Without Overtly Being....... A Message Movie!

This Film starring Nicholas Gage, Jared Leto and Ethan Hawke is entertaining as well as telling a gripping story of what is happening out in the 'real' world in a 'reel' story.

Nicholas deadpans a lot of the story, as he is telling it from the beginning, but it one that will hold your interesst from when he starts it to when he ends...

Fascinating story based on 'actual events', so much so that you really believe that is real!

It is on the 2nd disc, with the Bonus Features, that you really see that this film is setting forth a message.  It gives the background of current arms deals, why the mountain of small arms has moved into West Africa and other conflict areas in the world.

This is not a light movie, not a popcorn movie, but a movie that conveys what it wants to say in an entertaining way.

The three named actors all portray their roles very well, and you are immersed in the story due to all the detail that is placed in by the writer/producer Norm Golightly.  Recommended for viewing, but this film is not an upbeat movie!

In One Season On TV and One Comic Book Issue!

Amazing how fast William Daniels transforms into Captain Nice isn't it??!

Thanks to Buck Henry, Jay Sandrich and others, we have this TV Show to remember those goofy 1960's when anything Superheroish was put on TV due to the success of the Batman TV Show!

Kind of reminds of you today doesn't it??? When anything that has been in a comic book or graphic novel is being developed for the Big Screen!!!

'Isis' In Human Form!

That Was Victoria Vetri's

(aka Angela Dorian)

Role on The Star Trek: TOS TV Show!

Of Course Robert Lansing and Teri Garr got the top guest star billing, but Isis The Cat was a major factor in this Star Trek TOS episode!

I blogged earlier about Angela Dorian / Victoria Vetri being on the Batman TV Show and referenced she had been on the Original Star Trek series.

Above is one of the few pics of her as the cat in 'human form' from that episode!

The episode was titled 'Assignment: Earth' and originally aired March 29, 1968.

For those interested in Star Trek comic books, just click on the picture at the top left!
