However...

Since We Sell Political Satire Magazines,

Thought we would share the photo to the top left with you.

New York born Tina met Rudy Giuliani when she organized a convention where he was the keynote speaker.

Giuliani held the audience spell bound as he talked about leading New York in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks.  She was equally impressed with his energy and willingness to do "photo ops" with the entire audience of over 1,000 people.

End of Non-Political Blog Post... LOL !

Thanks for reading our pop culture - comics - comic book blog post!

'What If?'

Series From Marvel Comics!

This was a great series that Marvel Comics first started with Volume 1 Issue #1 in February of 1977!

It lasted for 47 issues, ending in October of 1984.

The series printed stories that just couldn't be done in Marvel's regular continuity, as those stories turned the Marvel Universe upside down!

These were almost like DC Comics' 'Imaginary Stories', but you knew right off the bat that the story was a 'What If...' story, not reading it and then finding out it was an 'imaginary' story!

The first volume included stories with Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, Thor, Captain America, the Avengers, Conan... all the 'big guns' of Marvel.

The least known was 'Dazzler' who became the herald of Galactus in a 'What If?' Story.

This is a series that is not for everyone. Which is why many comic book collectors collect only the issues that have their favorite character(s).

They make good reading, IF you know the history of the character, and how the twists and turns in the 'What If?' are so different!

Smurfing... Not Surfing! By The Way,

Did You Miss The Smurfs 50th???

Yes, that's right! The Smurfs, which are one of Belgium's better known exports, turned 50 years old on Monday the 14th!

The Smurfs, or "Les Schtroumpfs" as they were originally called in French, first appeared in "Le Journal de Spirou" comic strip in 1958!

The Smurfs were the brain-child of the Belgian comic artist, Peyo.

By 1960 in Europe, the Smurfs had their own comic strip series.

Then with the Hanna-Barbera Productions animated cartoon in 1981, the Smurfs secured a global fan base.

We do get in some Smurfs comics from time to time, right now we have a few in our eBay Featured Store. Just click the Smurf pic a the top left to see all of cartoon comics!

 Season 5 Is Cancelled

We first caught this show at the July 2007 San Diego Comic Con International, (SDCC), as we kept running into programs / panels that Ira Steven Behr was sitting on.

Suffice to say that after seeing and hearing him so many times we decided to give this show a try...

We rented the DVDs to catch up on previous seasons and enjoyed them.

We were waiting for the next season to start, but found out during this vacation week that the show would not be coming back...

It did seem strange when the Season Finale of Season 4 ended.  Everything was wrapping up quickly. It almost seemed like a series finale, but nothing was announced.

There was a lot of closure to sub plots which made seeing the Finale a must watch episode.

However the TV Guide reports that this show and another (that we don't watch) are cancelled.

This is a shame in my opinion, as The 4400 was a very good sci-fi show.

For those of you that have not seen it, give it a try via DVD which is the best way to view this series.

Our thanks to Ira Behr for turning us on to this series. And our thanks to the cast and crew for making this a fun series to watch!

Michael (and Tina)

American Idol Premiere...

 Night 1 - Our Take!

How timely that Season 7 starts in Philadelphia... with the Decision 2008 coming up in November!

Plus I liked kidding Tina about all the crazies that descended upon Philly, as she is from that area, LOL!

Last night's almost non-stop laughing by Randy and Paula over the rendition of 'Go Down Moses' was a good start...

Then the atmosphere scene at Geno's... where Tina and I both started jonesying for a Philly Cheesteak, (but not for Geno's).

However regarding the non-singers of the auditions... Tina says "this is getting a little old. They're deluded and un-entertaining. I'd rather see more of the ones that made the cut."

She says it's more like 'American Freakshow' in the auditions and then the true 'American Idol'  starts in Hollywood.

Myself, I would agree with Simon about Alexis of Allentown, PA. She was 'channeling' Grace Slick in her audition.

The gal who was one of the final two for the night... 'Princess Leia', was not worth all the face time she received.. and the guy with the chest hair removal... well, what some people will do for 5 minutes of fame!

The last audition was by Brooke White, who's a nanny, she did pretty good and was one of the 29 people chosen from the Philly Auditions Site to go to Hollywood!

Tonight is auditions at Texas Stadium in Dallas... hoo boy!

Thanks for reading our pop culture - comics - comic book blog post!
