Michael D Hamersky On Comics Mentions That...

 Jane Russell,
Born on June 21st of 1921... Was Featured In Several...

Comic Books!

TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #3890 -    Today is the anniversary of Jane Russell's birthdate!

I meant to post a blog about her today, but instead I posted on a KickStarter Campaign, earlier this morning.

So, I just finished posting a few of the comic book covers that she was featured on in a special album at my Facebook Fan Page! And thought I would briefly post a mention of that album in my Blog!

Jane's history is shown at her Wikipedia entry.

Her film & TV history is shown at her IDMb page.

I personally liked several of her films, but I believe my favorites of her films are:  'Paleface' from 1948, and 'Son of Paleface' from 1952!

The photo at the top left of this blog post is on the set of 'Son of Paleface', with Jane, Bob Hope, Roy Rogers & Trigger, back in 1953!

The scans of the comic books presented here are:

Love Letters #17 cover dated January of 1952, published by Quality Comics.

Famous Stars #4 cover dated May/June of 1952, published by Ziff-Davis.

Heart Throbs #9 cover dated March of 1952, published by Quality Comics.

I thought it would be nice to remember Jane Russell today, on her birthdate.  Jane passed away February 28th of 2011.

She will be remembered by film fans and comic book fans for a long time to come!

The Dig Comics! Kickstarter Campaign!

Which Ends Wednesday Jul 10, 3:00pm EDT

TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #3889 -    I wanted to bring this KickStarter Campaign to your attention today.

Miguel Cima, a Facebook Friend of mine, messaged me about it.

Miguel and others were involved with the short film  'DIG COMICS' that gained much international attention when it premiered a few years back.  It was honored as an official selection at the Cannes Film Festival, Vancouver International Film Festival, LA New Filmmakers Festival as well as 15 more festivals and then ultimately, won the Best Documentary prize at the San Diego Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival!

Now, this project is a KickStarter Campaign.  With a large goal to be met.  You see... After years of meetings trying to convince Hollywood networks, studios and production companies that comics deserve the spotlight, filmmaker / raconteur Miguel Cima is now turning to the people for help in financing this project.  Embracing the underdog appeal of comics, Cima calls on the converted comic fans and professionals to come together in making real a project that hopes to benefit the comics industry.

So when you are on the KickStarter Campaign link, be sure to watch the fundraiser short video, and then the short film that won the Prize at the SDCC, to see what this campaign is all about.  There is additional text there to show what will be done with the monies collected.

I want to present a few links here:

The Dig Comics Kickstarter Campaign link.

The Dig Comics! Facebook Fan Page.

The Dig Comics! web site.

I urge you to take a close look at these links, and join in with a pledge, even it is only a dollar!

This campaign appears to be a darn good cause to support.  Be sure to watch both videos to see what this campaign is all about!

~ Michael

Oh Mighty Isis!

TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #3888 -     I have obtained a full set of the Mighty Isis comic book series from National / DC Comics.  Which I have listed at my online comic book shop, ComicBooksCircus.com.

However, and I gotta admit it.... when the TV Show was first on, I didn't watch it, as I was newly married with no children.  Yet it was fun picking up these comic books that are based on that TV show...

The Secrets of Isis  was a live action television series produced by Filmation Studios in the mid-1970s that appeared on the Saturday morning cartoon lineup. It was first known as the Shazam / Isis Hour and ran for 15 episodes. Later Isis would have her own show which ran for 7 episodes, so a total of 22 original eps were made. The photo at the top left shows the DVD set that contains the full series.

The show has also aired in various countries around the world and is also known by the shorter title of 'Isis'.

The Secrets of Isis starred Joanna Cameron as Andrea Thomas, (pictured at the top right), who was a high school science teacher that found an ancient mystical amulet on an archeological dig in Egypt!  The amulet once belonged to Hatshepsut, who was an ancient Egyptian Queen and the amulet gave the wearer the powers of Isis!

So, in true heroic form, whenever Isis was needed, Andrea would reveal the amulet and incite an incantation ("Oh, mighty Isis!") and she would be transformed into the goddess Isis.... Well seriously, I didn't make this up folks!!

Anyway, for those interested in ISIS and other DC TV Superhero comic books, we have many listed in our online comic book shop, ComicBooksCircus.com!

TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #3887 -    I wanted to share this original art page from the Fantastic Four issue #11 published in February of 1963.

Just How Many 3-D Comic Books Are There?

 Just How Many
3-D Comic Books
Are There?

TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #3886 -    Today I'm blogging about a question that I was asked via my online comic book shop, ComicBooksCircus.com.

The question was, "How many 3-D Comic Books are there?".

Heck, I didn't know the answer to that one!

So I went to my trusted source online, Grand Comics Database, and keypunched in '3-D'.

This is the first result that I viewed. Plus one more result here.  I counted 290 different issues published.  However two titles consisted of 101 of those 290 issues that were listed.

3-D comics started in 1953 and ran until early 1954, when the 3-D Craze died.

Then again, since 1954 there have been other attempts to get 3-D going.  As seen by the fact that there are at least 134 different comic book titles with 3-D as part of the title.

I haven't read all of these 134 different titles, and haven't owned several of them.  They are actually getting harder to buy to re-sell.

If I get any of them in the future, they will be placed in my ComicBooksCircus.com, after I read them!

Be sure to keep up to date with the history of comics at my Facebook Fan Page, as well as this Blog of mine.

Good luck to you in obtaining the 3-D comic book that you are looking for!

~ Michael

P.S. Oh, by the way... This very September of 2013 is the 60th Anniversary of the very 1st 3-D Comic Book... Three Dimension Comics #1 featuring Mighty Mouse, as seen to the bottom right of this blog!

This was a project initiated by Joe Kubert, who enlisted Norman Maurer in creating the 3-D process in comic books!

St. John comics was the publisher of this title, which lasted for three issues.  See this link for all three covers!

St. John published comic books from 1947 - 1958.

Oh, and the 3-D comic books craze was going on at the same time that the 3-D Craze was happening in movie films!

Just a little more comic book history to throw your way!
