Grimm Fairy Tales Presents

 The Jungle Book

VolumeOne
A TPB
From Zenescope Entertainment

TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #3771 -   It's now Tuesday morning, and I have several errands to run this morning... Into the afternoon!

So I want to post this review blog on Zenescope Entertainment's TPB that compiles all five issues of 'The Jungle Book'.

I've already review blogged issues #1 -4 in an earlier post, (blog #3716),  back on Friday, September 14, 2012.  I really enjoyed reading the first four issues, and it was only recently that issue #5 and the TPB came in.

What's this story arc about?

"Grimm Fairy Tales presents The Jungle Book -  A pirate ship carrying four children crashes on the shore of a mysterious and merciless jungle. Each child is taken by a separate tribe of animals as a means to keep the peace between the species. It is a peace that will not last... Fifteen years later the children have now become young adults and each will have to face the destiny that awaits them in the unforgiving jungle. A place where only the strong will survive. Zenescope brings you their newest reinvention of a classic tale that is going to blow you away!"

The ordering info is as follows:

Paperback: 172 pages
Publisher: Zenescope; First Edition edition (October 16, 2012)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 1937068420
ISBN-13: 978-1937068424

I found the conclusion of the five issue arc to be satisfying, and a good ending for this series.

The art was fine, the colors good, and all in all, this was a good series to read.

I liked the twists that the writer took with the story, and the storyline kept me guessing as to what would happen next.  This was definitely not a standard superhero comic book, but a good jungle genre story.

I'm giving this TPB a Very Fine / Near Mint (VF/NM) 9.0 out of a possible 10.0 comic book grading scale.

You can find this at most comic book shops, or from the Zenescope Entertainment web site.

Plus, while you are at the web site, check out the other series that Zenescope has published this past year, and the years before.

My own earlier review blogs on several of those publications can be found at this link, as Zenescope Entertainment does have several good series for your reading pleasure!

Volume Four
A TPB
From Zenescope Entertainment

TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #3770 -   It's Monday, and I'm back to review blogging publications that have come in over the last year.  Would you believe this is the 4th publication from Zenescope Entertainment that I've review blogged this year already?!

The item being reviewed today is the TPB for 'Myths & Legends Volume Four', which has been compiled from the Myths & Legends #18-21 comic book series arc, plus Grimm Fairy Tales Issue #3, into this trade paperback, (TPB)

What's this story about?

"As a new hit TV sensation, the duo travels from place to place disproving supernatural legends of Myth and Lore. But when Hank and Gina investigate the urban legend of the infamous witches den where a witch of terrifying power dined on the flesh of those unfortunate enough to venture to her doorstep only to find herself murdered by the townspeople the duo are in for a terrifying surprise when they both learn that the so called legend...may very well be true. Collects Myths and Legends issues 18-21 and Grimm Fairy Tales issue 3."

The ordering info is as follows:

Paperback: 156 pages
Publisher: Zenescope (November 27, 2012)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 1937068641
ISBN-13: 978-1937068646

I found the art in this story arc to be more than satisfactory, and the colors mesh well with the art and the tone of the series.

The writing does seem to be slightly 'off', when the story line is compiled into this TPB.  Waiting a month between comic book issues when reading in that format you probably wouldn't see that, but when compiled into a trade paperback format, it just didn't totally jell for me.  It might be because the Myths & Legends issues were printed in 2012 and the Grimm Fairy Tales issue 3 was published in 2006. So there was a bit of time between the writing of the issues(?).

Still... It is a good enough read, and the compilation is one that should be read and go on your bookshelf, if you are into this Grimm Fairy Tales series.

I'm giving this TPB a Very Fine / Very Fine Plus (VF/VF+) 8.25 out of a possible 10.0 comic book grading scale. Which is still a pretty good grade...

You can find this at most comic book shops, or from the Zenescope Entertainment web site.

Plus, while you are at the web site, check out the other series that Zenescope has published this past year, and the years before.

Michael D Hamersky On Comics Suggests That YOU 'Like'...
 His Facebook Fan Page!

TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #3769 -   I've been adding several new photos and a couple new photo albums to my Facebook Fan Page, Michael D Hamersky On Comics yesterday and today.

I just realized that I haven't mentioned my Facebook Fan Page as a 'topic' for this Blog for several months... And since it is the first week of the New Year, I thought I would post this special invitation for you to stop in and click 'Like' on the 'Like' option link!

The link to go to the page and 'Like' it is at:  Michael D Hamersky On Comics.

It is my Facebook 'fan page', as my Facebook 'group page' was discontinued at the end of the 2012 year.

My Facebook 'member' page is pretty much maxed out at the 5,000 Facebook 'friends' that I can have as a top limit, so the 'Fan Page' was started to center on Comics / Comics Films / Comics History, etc.

Since you are reading this blog right now, I'm sure you have some interest in comic books, and I know you will enjoy reading and 'participating' at my Facebook Fan Page.

So I suggest... Do it now!

Thanks!

~ Michael

The Waking: Dreams End

A TPB
From Zenescope Entertainment

 alt=

TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #3768 -   It's the 4th day of the New Year... And would you believe its the 3rd publication from Zenescope Entertainment that I've review blogged this year already?!

The item being reviewed today is the TPB for 'The Waking: Dreams End', which has been compiled from a four issue comic book series into this trade paperback (TPB).

What's this story about?

"Murder has become practically extinct in a world armed with the knowledge that those who are murdered will return from the dead to take the loves of those guilty. But within a new world comes a new kind of killer. And he must be stopped! From the writer and creator of the Wonderland trilogy and FLY comes a return to the horror that never sleeps."

The above brief synopsis doesn't do justice to the TPB.

I'm almost totally immersed in this horror comics series when reading it.

The art is pretty darn good also, and the colors are dark, keeping the horrorific mood.

This is a pretty good comic book mini-series to compile into a TPB.

The additions of the variant comic book covers for this four issue series is a plus that is added into this compilation at the end.

My only semi-negative on this second series of 'The Waking', is that it is a second series, and I haven't read the first series.  Not doing so kind of left me out on what had gone on earlier, and I felt that not reading the first series left me out of fully enjoying this second series.

Because of that, I'm downgrading my comic book grading scoring.

I'm giving this TPB a Very Fine / Very Fine Plus (VF/VF+) 8.25 out of a possible 10.0 comic book grading scale. Which is still a pretty good grade...

You can find this at most comic book shops, or from the Zenescope Entertainment web site.

As an afterthought, I would suggest taking a look at 'The Theater', the TPB that I review blogged yesterday, also written by Raven Gregory, at blog #3767.  That I gave a Near Mint (NM) 9.4 as a comic book grade.

Perhaps reading the first volume of 'The Waking' would have made me appreciate 'The Waking: Dreams End' a little more...?!

~ Michael

The Theater

A TPB
From Zenescope Entertainment

TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #3767 -   It's the 3rd day of the New Year... And it is also going to be the 2nd review blog of a Zenescope Entertainment publication for 2013.

The item reviewed is the TPB for 'The Theater', which has been compiled from a five issue comic book series into this trade paperback.

What's this story about?

"In a quiet New Jersey town there sits a small, old-fashioned movie theater. But this unassuming theater holds a deep dark secret, one that threatens the lives of anyone who dares enter it. An when an unsuspecting couple decides to visit the old movie house to watch some horror films, they soon will find that something full of horror is also watching them. From the writer of the Wonderland trilogy and The Waking comes a whole new world of fear unlike any that has been seen before! Don't miss the brand new horror series unlike any you have read before."

The above wrap up of this TPB seems to be a familiar one... but the writer, Raven Gregory, does an outstanding job in presenting this series!

I'm totally surprised at the twists and turns in this horror comics series.

The art is pretty darn good also, and the colors are vivid.

This is a good mini-series to compile into a TPB.

The additions of the variant comic book covers for this five issue series is a plus that is added into this compilation, at the back of the book.

I'm giving this TPB a Near Mint (NM) 9.4 out of a possible 10.0 comic book grading scale.

You can find this at most comic book shops, or from the Zenescope Entertainment web site.

It is a good read to start out your brand new 2013 year with!
