TODAY'S FEATURE - Blog #3156:

Today I'm pleased once again to have as guest blogger, Vinnie, who is writing 'His Take' on the 'Planet Hulk' Film on DVD that we rented last night:

[SPOILER ALERT: This whole blog post is a 'Spoiler Alert'...As this is more of a review of the straight to video film from a tween's POV.]

PLANET HULK: Earth's most powerful heroes, including Iron Man, Mr. Fantastic, Doctor Strange, and several others sent the Incredible Hulk in a spacecraft to a peaceful planet, when the Hulk gets mad during midflight and it gets off course and crashes in a distant planet called Sakaar which is ruled by the Red King. The Hulk is sold into slavery and forced to fight for his life as a Gladiator. He meets a bug-like creature named Miek, a rock-man named Korg, a guy named Hiroim, and a lady names Elloe. He soon rises to become the greatest Gladiator in Sakaar, and many believe he is their savior.

NOTE: I have not read the Planet Hulk comic book story arc, and this review is just based on what I saw in the movie.

I really loved the animation. It is one of the best movies animation-wise in 2D, in my opinion. Everything is so detailed, colorful, beautifully designed, it still amazes me. Everything has color, and nothing is dull. I also really liked the storyline.

By listening to the special feature about the making of this movie, I learned that they tried as much as possible to stick to the Plant Hulk comic book.

Also, the Silver Surfer was in the comic, but not the movie. Due to legal reasons, they had to swap out the Silver Surfer for Beta Ray Bill (Thor). I, having not read the comic, thought that Beta Ray Bill was actually in the comic, but to me it proves they were able to change the plot around to fit that character, and have a reason for him being there, which they show in the movie. I found that very pleasing that they did what they could to get away from the Silver Surfer setback, and find someone to fit that character role, for as it appeared in the movie, Silver Surfer had a big part in the storyline.

Now, to state what I didn't like. To be honest, when coming up with this segment about what I didn't like, nothing in particular comes to mind. There really were no dull moments, and the whole movie was interesting, exhilarating, and it was great.

This movie I believe is for older aged children to adults in veiwership. Being a 'gladiator' movie, of course there was violence. And with violence, blood usually follows, and in this case, it was applied to this movie. I think children 13+ to adults would enjoy this, especially if they love that big green brute, or comics in general. I would only recommend this to people of younger age than 13 if they were okay with violence and blood, and their parents were okay with them watching blood and violence.
