TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #3981 -     Today is Veterans Day...  So what exactly is Veterans Day?  Here's the Wikipedia entry for this holiday.

Plus... Here are my previous years blogs on Veterans Day: 2007, 2008, 20092010, and 2011.

I'm not a veteran... Just a Navy Brat.  But I appreciate the fact that my Dad was a veteran, as well as several of my extended family members.

My thanks to them and those of you that have served this country in the Armed Forces.

Happy Veterans Day!

~ Michael

Barry Ira Geller
At The 2013 San Diego Comic Fest!

TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #3969 -     I'm posting this blog this morning after seeing Barry Ira Geller at the 2013 San Diego Comic Fest.  Photo of Barry in the Dealers Room is shown above.

Barry also had a panel on Saturday, October 5th, which conflicted with another panel I wanted to see, so I missed Barry's.

However, after talking with him at the Dealers Room, I wanted to bring to your attention, his web site and what he is doing.

First, let me show you what his panel was about:

10:00am – 11:00am: Working with Jack Kirby, Larger than life: How Jack became my Design General and our work became the Real story behind the film Argo – Barry Ira Geller- Barry Ira Geller talks about the events that were made into the movie Argo, which won the best picture Oscar of 2012. Barry worked with Jack Kirby on designs for a science-fiction theme park based on Roger Zelazny’s Lord of Light and wrote a screenplay based on the novel. The theme park didn’t get built and the movie didn’t get made, but Jack’s designs and Barry’s script were used by the CIA as the cover story to free U.S. hostages from Iran in 1980. Barry will tell us what really happened then, including things were weren’t accurate or fully described in Argo. Panelist: Barry Ira Geller Room: Garden 1.

Like I said, I missed this panel... But have read the web site that Barry is working on.  Plus I recently viewed the film, Argo, on a DVD rental.

Here is the link to LordOfLight.com, which I believe you will be fascinated with!

Plus here is a link to the San Diego Comic Fest page on Barry's appearance!

My thanks to Barry for sharing his time with me at the 2013 San Diego Comic Fest!

~ Michael

Michael D Hamersky On Comics Presents His Take On...

Scott Shaw! Talks About and Draws Scenes from His Career!

At the 2013 San Diego Comic Fest, Sunday October 6th!

TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #3968 -     This past Sunday, at the 2013 San Diego Comic Fest... Scott Shaw! and Roger Freedman presented a panel titled:  'Scott Shaw! Talks About and Draws Scenes from His Career' from 1:45 to 2:45 in the Garden Room 1.

My youngest son, Vinnie, and I attended this informative and fun program!

At the right are four photos that I took during the presentation.

Roger Freedman, a long time Scott Shaw! friend, moderated the program, asking Scott about certain time periods of his life.

Scott would answer and draw a scene from that time period that Roger asked about.

My thanks to Scott & Roger for such a lively discussion and presentation!  I learned a lot more about Scott that I didn't know about!

Asks... Do You Know...

My Secret?!

It is a One-Shot Magazine from Atlas-Seaboard!

 alt=

TODAY'S FEATURE IS (GUEST) BLOG #3963 -     I wanted to mention this magazine that was published by Atlas / Seaboard Publications back in February of 1975.

It was a confession text magazine with photos in black & white format.  It was edited by Karen Flashner.

So besides publishing comic books, which I've blogged about several times in the past, (see this link), Martin Goodman's new company also was looking into publishing magazines, similar to his setup back when he owned Magazine Management that published mags & Marvel Comics!

However, before you start looking for one of these... It is ten times more rare than the 'Gothic Romances' magazine by Atlas / Seaboard.   I've looked!  There appears to be only three known copies of this magazine!

Please note:  Other than the Captain America t-shirt the model is wearing on the front cover.. There isn't any cother comic book connection!

So for those of you that thought you had a complete Atlas / Seaboard collection... You are probably one issue shy of that goal now!

~ Michael
