Michael D Hamersky On Comics   The 2013 Malta Comic Con

TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #3958 -     I just received another email from the folks at the Malta Comic Con, telling me of their latest guests that will be appearing.

This will be the 5th year for this comics convention.

You may be thinking... Where's Malta?   And why would they have a comic convention?

Well... Here is where Malta is located at.

Here is the history of Malta.

As to why they have a comic con...  Well, comic cons are now worldwide!

I have watched this convention expand over the last few years, and was amazed at the guests that this con has had in the past.

If you are going to Europe in the near future, you might want to time it with the Malta Comic Con, which runs November 30th to December 1st of 2013.

Michael D Hamersky On Comics Presents His Take On...   Viva Comics!   The Opening Reception that took place on September 21st!     TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #3957 -     Last night, Tina, Vinnie & myself attended the event in San Diego called 'Viva Comics!'.   It was hosted by cartoonist Batton Lash, at the Artlab Studios location in Normal Heights.   So what was this all about?   Here's what 'Scoop' said in their online article:   "Viva Comics! is a new comics art show opening Saturday, September 21, 2013, in advance of this year’s second annual San Diego Comic Fest, which will be held October 4-5. The show is a follow-up to last year's successful Unmasked! exhibit of comic art, and it celebrates the local comic book and fantasy artists in San Diego. Curated by writer-aritst Batton Lash (Wolff & Byrd: Counselors of the Macabre) at Artlab Studios, the show’s opening reception is Saturday and it then runs through October 3. Artists featured in the show will also be at Comic Fest."   Okay... So  you get what this event was about.  Plus you see that the show runs until October 3rd.  So you still have time to see it!   Tina, Vinnie, and myself really enjoyed ourselves at this special reception.  Thanks to Batton Lash for sending us an 'invite' to it!   Also... Michael D Hamersky On Comics Presents His Take On The...   The Final Night of  the 2013 Leo Carrillo Film Festival Season   Here's Adventure... Here's Romance... The Cisco Kid!     TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #3956 -     Last night, Tina and I attended the Final Night of the 2013 Leo Carrillo Film Festival.   As mentioned in the last review blog, the Leo Carrillo Historic Ranch is celebrating its 10th Anniversary up big with this year's Film Festival.   Last night was quite a bit different from the normal presentations shown at this Film Festival.   That's because it had Richard Renaldo, son of Duncan Renaldo, as the main feature.   Richard and additional guest, Carol Waffel, were on hand to talk about the June 2013 Award given to Duncan Renaldo and Leo Carrillo.    Duncan & Leo were inducted into the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. For induction the actors needed to have made a significant contribution to the perpetuation of Western film, radio or theatre. They must project the traditional Western ideals of honesty, integrity and self-sufficiency.    Richard then gave a presentation on 'The Cisco Kid in Film', a very entertaining & informative narration.   The next feature was what appeared to be a 1981 remix of an old 'Cisco Kid' TV episode featuring Duncan & Leo.   Then after intermission, was the 1949 feature film, Satan's Cradle, which was presented in black & white.   All in all this evening proved to be very satisfying to me. It was the first time that the Leo Carrillo Film Festival was devoted to the 'Cisco Kid' for the evening to my knowledge.   I'm really pleased with attending several of the 2013 Leo Carrillo Film Festival evenings this season, including the special Dinner & A Movie Night that kicked off the Season.   Oh, and the tie-in to comic books is the Cisco Kid series from Dell Comics. There are 41 issues of this series, as seen at this link.   My thanks to Charles Balteria and his staff for a great 2013 Season!  The 1949 Film, 'Satan's Cradle' Was The Feature Film on Friday Night!  Here's a Scene with Duncan Renaldo, Douglas Fowley, and Ann Savage!    Tina decided to have her photo taken with the Star of the Night, Duncan Renaldo, aka The Cisco Kid!   The Western Heritage Wrangler Award presented by the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum to Leo Carrillo in 2013!   The First Feature of the Night was a 'History of the Cisco Kid', narrated by Richard Renaldo, Son of Duncan Renaldo!   The Opening Credit of the Featured Film, 'Satan's Cradle', a 1949 Cisco Kid Film!   Please Note: You can see more photos from this event at this Special Photo Album on my Facebook Fan Page!   Plus:  I'll be uploading the two short videos shot at this event on my YouTube Channel soon!

Michael D Hamersky On Comics Mentions That...   The Heart of Lucha   The Largest Lucha Art And Culture Exhibition in the Nation...   Runs October 19th in San Diego, California!

TODAY'S FEATURE IS (GUEST) BLOG #3955 -     A month ago, on August 20th, I posted blog #3934, which was about 'Bring On The Lucha Heroes' - 60 Years of Mexican Masked Wrestlers In Comics!

That was because I attended a special panel at the Latino Comics Expo in Long Beach, California.  The history and pictures presented at the panel were very cool!

Well... This coming October 19th... A special exhibition is being presented in San Diego.  At the Centro Cultural De La Raza at 2004 Park Blvd.

For those of you that have interest in this topic... This could be a special way to spend the day!

Michael D Hamersky On Comics Mentions That...   The Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV Show Was Predicted Back in 1965!

TODAY'S FEATURE IS (GUEST) BLOG #3954 -     I was looking at the upcoming TV Season Schedule, and made sure that we would be watching Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. this year.

I've already blogged about the new show, back on May 20th of this year in blog #3863, so yes, I'm looking forward to viewing it on the small screen!

However, looking over my collection of comics, I found in Daredevil #11 cover dated December of 1965, a reference to the same TV Show!

See the above scan to the top right, and at the bottom left of the panel...

It seems that I missed seeing the show back in 1965!

Only Stan Lee, (writer), Bob Powell, (penciler), Wally Wood, (inker), and Sam Rosen (letterer), knew about this TV Show!  Oh, and of course the readers of Daredevil #11!

Now, this year of 2013... We finally get to see it!

Be sure to watch it, as the TV show premieres September 24th at 8PM on ABC!
