TODAY'S FEATURE - Blog #3160:

Today I want to blog about the upcoming Jonah Hex film that is to be released June 18th.

That's because for the last two weeks, my Jonah Hex archived blog post from Tuesday, December 11th of 2007, as seen here, has been in the Top 10 Most Viewed Archived Blog Posts of this Blog! BTW, I've also blogged about Josh Brolin being named as the actor to portray Jonah Hex back on Friday, June 5th of 2009.

So there definitely is an above average interest in this film, if only gauging by my Blog's stats!

Now to do a topic justice, especially one that is about a comic book character being transformed from comic book to comic book movie, there would have to be more than one blog post, or the blogger is just 'skimming' across the surface of the transformation process.  So I'll attempt to give a little background here about the character in print, with a few teasers of the upcoming movie!

So what is Jonah Hex, the comic book character all about?

Well...In the comic book history that goes back to 1972, (Yes, 1972!), Jonah Woodson Hex is a Western comic book antihero. He was co-created by writer John Albano and artist Tony DeZuniga, (pictured above at the 2010 Wizard World Anaheim Comic Con.

At that time, it was strangely enough published by DC Comics. I say strangely because in the early 1970's both DC and Marvel Comics were starting to push the boundaries of what could be published in a comic book format.

Jonah Hex is portrayed as a surly and cynical bounty hunter, easily recognized by his face that is horribly scarred on the right side.

Remember, this is the time period when the Comics Code Authority, (CCA), still held sway over what would and could be published in comics.  Thus he is bound by a personal code of honor to protect and avenge the innocent.

Jonah Hex actually first 'appeared' in a full-page in-house ad for All-Star Western #10. Even though that is not even a 'cameo' or a final page appearance in a 'to be continued' story, that is what a lot of Jonah Hex collectors look for...His '1st appearance' in those house ads which were published in various Nov/Dec 1971 dated DC comic books.

His actual first 1st "full-story" appearance was then published a few weeks later in volume two of the title 'All-Star Western' #10 (1972), which is pictured above.

Back then there was a lot of jockeying around between the Big Two (DC & Marvel), for newstand space.  A title would be started, and then shortly afterwards renamed to catch the latest trend.

That's what happened to All-Star Western!   It was renamed 'Weird Western Tales' with its twelfth issue due to all of the HoRRoR / MoNSTer comic titles that were pouring out then.

You'll notice that in All-Star Western, that Jonah Hex was just one of three characters with stories in the comic book.  There was also Bat Lash and El Diablo.

Well, in the new title, Jonah Hex all but dominated the total number of pages until issue #38.  That's when Scalphunter took over the spotlight of the 'Weird Western Tales' title, while Jonah moved into his own self-titled series, Jonah Hex.

That new title started in 1977, and lasted for 92 issues with Michael Fleisher as the main writer. Issue #92 was published cover dated August of 1985.

BTW, Scalphunter ran in 'Weird Western Tales' until that title was cancelled in August of 1980.  It lasted a total of 80 issues, including the 11 of it's previous title name.

So, with any comic book character that has been around for 38 years, there are way too many topics to touch upon in a blog post, as first mentioned above.

I'll just mention that seeing Tony DeZuniga again, (co-creator of Jonah Hex), shown above holding the Jonah Hex comic book cover to issue #39 that he illustrated, was fun.  That's because his he and wife Tina, (shown at the bottom right of this blog post), were pleased with the earlier blog post I had blogged on them, after seeing them at the 2009 Long Beach Comic Con.

I mentioned at the top of this blog post that there appears to be a lot of interest in the upcoming film, Jonah Hex. I of course haven't seen it yet, and probably won't see it until it is on DVD, because my wife, Tina, is not thrilled about the movie trailers that are being shown on TV for it.

It is a Warner Bros. film that is being directed by Jimmy Hayward.  It stars Josh Brolin as the title character. It also stars Megan Fox, John Malkovich, Megan Fox, Michael Fassbender and oh, did I mention Megan Fox?  That could be one of the reason why Tina is not at all interested in seeing this film at the Big Screen...  Again, the film is scheduled to be released on June 18, 2010 in the USA. For more info on the upcoming film itself, I'm going to refer you to the Wikipedia Entry here... Please be aware that not all entries posted there are 100% accurate all the time.

My thanks to Tony and Tina DeZuniga for sharing their time with me at the two recent comic cons mentioned above!

Plus: My thanks again to all of YOU reading this blog and our earlier archived blog posts, now numbering over 3,155 in number!

TODAY'S FEATURE - Blog #3159:

This is a just a brief blog post about what is happening Tomorrow in Metropolis!

Wait a minute...Did I say 'Metropolis'???

Yes, because there is really a 'Metropolis', in the State of Illinois!

My thanks to Facebook Friend, Sam J. Rizzo, who reminded me about this annual event on Monday.  I met Sam at the 2010 Wizard World Anaheim Comic Con, as pictured above.  Sam runs his SuperboyHomePage.com web site, which you should check out!

I have blogged about this Superman Celbration a few times before in the recent years, 2008 & 2009, but this year's event almost slipped by me!

Also, I want to mention that I met the man who did the Superman films 'right', since I last blogged about last year's Superman Celebration event.

That would be Ilya Salkind, Producer of Superman Films I, II, & III!  He and I are pictured above, at his booth, also at the Wizard World Anaheim comic Con.  The folks at Wizard World really know how to bring in media stars!

Ilya's career credits can be seen in his IMDb page.  His bio can been seen in his Wikipedia entry. I found Ilya to be very personable at the con, and am pleased to be his Facebook Friend also.

The Superman Celebration has its' own web site, plus a Facebook Page, and a Facebook Event Page!  Whew!

Is that enough Superman for YOU?!  LOL!

If Not...Then You should check out the 4 Day Event that starts tomorrow!

My thanks again to Sam J. Rizzo for reminding me of this special event!  We are based in San Diego Metro Area, so are not attending this Superman Celebration.

From all of the photos I've seen, it always looks like a lot of fun.  So if you are near that area, check it out this year (or next!).

My thanks also to Ilya Salkind, who proved that a 'man could fly' for me back in 1978!

A Special Thanks to Esther Chilcut, who introduced me to Ilya Salkind while at the booth at the Wizard World Anaheim!

AND, My thanks again to all of YOU reading this blog and our earlier archived blog posts, now numbering over 3,155 in number!

TODAY'S FEATURE - Blog #3158:

Today I want to blog about the fact that yesterday was the 4th Anniversary of this Blog!

I was so busy over the weekend that I didn't recognize the date as being that significant until I came across that fact after already blogging for the day.

That's because this Blog originally started out on the eBay blogging platform back on June 7th of 2006. I would notice certain dates on that platform, and would mention them as a blog post.

So I'm sure you are wondering why isn't this Blog on the eBay platform now?

Well, in August of 2009, we were given approximately 50 days to make other arrangements on posting our blogs.

Luckily in February of 2007, I had already started posting both on the eBay platform and this 'Tripod' platform.  Good thing, because eBay actually ended up closing down their blogging platform before October 31st!  Some Trick n' Treat that was!

This is what I blogged when I first mentioned that the eBay blogs were closing: Click here!

I already had 3,000+ archived blog posts on eBay, but several of them were truly eBay ads for items that were no longer available in my eBay store, so I didn't copy them to my Tripod format...

That's why after 4 years there's 'only' 3,158 archived blog posts that still exist.  But that's a little over an average of 2 posts a day!

I guess I was a little enthusiastic there at the beginning...LOL!

I only post one blog a day now, as each one is like a web page unto itself.

For a while there I was running a 'Main Feature' AND a 'Featurette'.  The 'Featurette' started as a photo with a caption at the bottom right of the blog, and ended up being a mini-blog, so in effect I was generating 2 blogs in 1!

Well, I'm still pleased to blog what either I, or Tina & I want to 'talk' about 4 years later...

The blog has evolved into one of a comics centered online publication, especially after taking the name of 'Comic Book Collectors Blog.com' back in February of 2007.

The WGA Strike 'killed' my interest in blogging about Sci-Fi & other TV Shows, UNLESS they had a comic book series, or were really outstanding enough to blog about at least once.

Even though this Blog won $100 in the eBay Blog Contest in June of 2006, it is NOT the monetization of the blog that keeps me writing.

It is the interactivity with YOU, my Blog's readers, that keeps me blogging away, sharing what Tina and I find at comic cons, or what is sent in to me for possible mention!

Thanks for reading and 'listening' today! Feel free to 'follow' this blog at NetworkedBlogs, or the RSS Feed.  Also, you are welcome to become interactive with myself and other Facebook Comic Con | Make It So Marketing group members.

I do appreciate YOUR reading this blog post today, and any of the archived blogs you have read in the past, or will in the future.

AND... Happy 4th Birthday to Comic Book Collectors Blog.com!

TODAY'S FEATURE - Blog #3157:

(07-14-10 This is an ADDENDUM to the PrePaid Parking Update from earlier this morning on my Facebook Group Page at Hamersky.com about the underground parking at the San Diego Convention Center itself- my FB Friend "kept asking around and ended up calling the convention center to find out if "sold out" really ment "sold out" and they said yes they sold all avaliable spaces by presale and there would be no drive up and park without a prepaid ticket."  So, for those of YOU that have not purchased prepaid parking as mentioned below, it would seem that your options are parking around the convention center now...!)

This is a short preliminary blog post about the upcoming San Diego Comic Con...Okay, I'm an old timer there, it's actually the 'Comic Con International: San Diego', but most attendees refer to it as SDCC when writing about it, or just Comic-Con when speaking about it...

Anyways, I've already been asked via email and private message board on Facebook about the new 'Comic-Con Pre-Paid Parking' that was announced a few days ago.

Here's the link to the Comic-Con's official web page to that 'Comic-Con Pre Paid Parking'. I'm posting it here in my blog, NOT because I recommend You doing so, but because since it is brand new for this year, it is probably better to be 'safe' than 'sorry' by doing so!

I say this because, Tina and I have for years gone down early to park below the Convention Center itself.  Way too early for her, she says...But she understands why.  We take box after box down to our auto of promo items, publications to read and possibly review blog from comics creators, and all kinds of other items we are given.  So we have to have the underground parking at the convention centr itself!

One year I bought a 'flipped long box collection' from a New York dealer, who had just bought it the day before.  He hadn't had time to peruse it and grade it before heading out to San Diego.  He got a fair return from us, and I got the 'pleasure' of walking it out to the far parking structure without a handtruck!  Never again, no matter how great a deal it is!  Sheesh!

Anyways, I am bringing this to your attention so that YOU have the opportunity to make up your mind before this new option of parking is 'SOLD OUT'! I would hate to get down there early, just to find that there is no parking at that ungodly hour, because people coming hours later have already 'reserved' a parking space online.

So a word to my blog readers...Be aware of this new option, and read it very carefully, and click the right parking location to reserve your space.  Plus if YOU are going every day, you have to seperately get a parking 'reservation' for EACH & EVERY Day!  Plus PRINT it OUT, and bring it with you!  And yeah...the SERVICE CHARGE hits YOU on each and every daily purchase...You have to buy one for each and every day...Cha-Ching!

I said above that I am not 'recommending' this option. I only did it for 'self-preservation', because I wouldn't want to get down there early and find myself 'locked out' because others have booked parking ahead of time, and then drive leisurely down there to get in.

Why do I say the above? That's because I used to work for one of the two companies that run these parking lots in San Diego.  I forsee 'problems' with this type of 'option' of getting in.  But, if you need to get parking on a daily basis, there are few choices in the area...

'Nuff Said!

My thanks to the Comic Con International: San Diego organizers for attempting to get a handle on the parking problems surrounding the area.

I hope that the parking situation and the new option goes well for all concerned.

AND, My thanks again to all of YOU reading this blog and our earlier archived blog posts, now numbering over 3,155 in number!

TODAY'S FEATURE - Blog #3156:

Today I'm pleased once again to have as guest blogger, Vinnie, who is writing 'His Take' on the 'Planet Hulk' Film on DVD that we rented last night:

[SPOILER ALERT: This whole blog post is a 'Spoiler Alert'...As this is more of a review of the straight to video film from a tween's POV.]

PLANET HULK: Earth's most powerful heroes, including Iron Man, Mr. Fantastic, Doctor Strange, and several others sent the Incredible Hulk in a spacecraft to a peaceful planet, when the Hulk gets mad during midflight and it gets off course and crashes in a distant planet called Sakaar which is ruled by the Red King. The Hulk is sold into slavery and forced to fight for his life as a Gladiator. He meets a bug-like creature named Miek, a rock-man named Korg, a guy named Hiroim, and a lady names Elloe. He soon rises to become the greatest Gladiator in Sakaar, and many believe he is their savior.

NOTE: I have not read the Planet Hulk comic book story arc, and this review is just based on what I saw in the movie.

I really loved the animation. It is one of the best movies animation-wise in 2D, in my opinion. Everything is so detailed, colorful, beautifully designed, it still amazes me. Everything has color, and nothing is dull. I also really liked the storyline.

By listening to the special feature about the making of this movie, I learned that they tried as much as possible to stick to the Plant Hulk comic book.

Also, the Silver Surfer was in the comic, but not the movie. Due to legal reasons, they had to swap out the Silver Surfer for Beta Ray Bill (Thor). I, having not read the comic, thought that Beta Ray Bill was actually in the comic, but to me it proves they were able to change the plot around to fit that character, and have a reason for him being there, which they show in the movie. I found that very pleasing that they did what they could to get away from the Silver Surfer setback, and find someone to fit that character role, for as it appeared in the movie, Silver Surfer had a big part in the storyline.

Now, to state what I didn't like. To be honest, when coming up with this segment about what I didn't like, nothing in particular comes to mind. There really were no dull moments, and the whole movie was interesting, exhilarating, and it was great.

This movie I believe is for older aged children to adults in veiwership. Being a 'gladiator' movie, of course there was violence. And with violence, blood usually follows, and in this case, it was applied to this movie. I think children 13+ to adults would enjoy this, especially if they love that big green brute, or comics in general. I would only recommend this to people of younger age than 13 if they were okay with violence and blood, and their parents were okay with them watching blood and violence.
