Michael D Hamersky On Comics Presents His Take On...   Rob Hanes Adventures #14 From WCG Comics

TODAY'S FEATURE IS (GUEST) BLOG #3943 -     Catching up with my comic book reviews this week...

The above comic book was received at the recent 2013 Comic-Con International: San Diego, (aka SDCC).

 At the top right is a photo of Randy Reynaldo holding a copy of Rob Hanes Adventures #14, the latest issue in Randy's comic book series!

I've previously blogged about this series in blog #3687,  where I reviewed issue #13 that I received at the 2012 SDCC.

So what's this series & issue #14 about?  Here's what the publisher says on the web site:

"High adventure is alive and well in the 21st century! Rob Hanes Adventures is an all-ages comic-book series about a globetrotting private eye and troubleshooter that has been described as "Tintin meets Indiana Jones!"

Under the auspices of worldwide Justice International, Rob Hanes travels the world on assignment, facing adventure, intrigue and romance at every turn! Every issue is complete and self-contained, so jump in at any time!

In the (14th) issue, Rob helps precipitate the fall of a Middle East dictator by accompanying an exiled princess back into the country."

Okay... So what's 'My Take' on this issue?

Well, the front cover grabbed my attention, as 'regime change' seems to be happening more in the world at this time. 

The inside front cover has a 'primer' to the series, which is very helpful if you are 'new' to this comic book series.

The splash page gets the story started off very well.  Please note that the interior pages are in black & white only.

Randy tells the story vividly, and while also being the artist, the whole story runs smoothly with the artwork.

The 24 page story ends with a good finish...

Liner Notes fills out the background of the story presented in this issue.

Hanes Briefs is the letters page...

Review: Genius, Isolated is a reprint of Randy's blog on a book on The Life and Art of Alex Toth.

The inside back cover is the Ka-Blam house ad, as Ka-Blam is the printer of this comic book.

The back cover is a good presentation of what Rob Hanes Adventures is about, if a person was to pick this comic book up at their LCBS to think about buying it.

I personally enjoyed this latest issue.  Randy has a good style in writing and illustrating.  I've liked all his issues in this series so far.   Good 'Old School' story & art that is 'done in one' issue, without having to buy a five issue spread to read a complete story arc like in many other comic books in mainstream comic book publishing.  Definitely worth the $3.99 cover price!

As for my comic book grade for this issue... I'm giving it a Near Mint (NM) 9.4 out of a possible 10.0 comic book grading scale.

Michael D Hamersky On Comics Mentions...   Labor Day... Comic Books & Comic Strips!    TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #3942 -     Today is Labor Day... Michael D Hamersky On Comics Presents His Take On The...   The August 30th of 2013 Leo Carrillo Film Festival Season Held At the Leo Carrillo Ranch in Carlsbad, California!     TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #3941 -     Last night, Tina and I attended the 2nd Night of the 2013 Leo Carrillo Film Festival.   This was after spending all week rennovating our house... So we were glad to get out of the house and under the stars!   The Leo Carrillo Historic Ranch is celebrating its 10th Anniversary up big with this year's Film Festival.   We saw the episode titled 'Phoney Sheriff' of the Cisco Kid, followed by the feature film, If You Could Only Cook. Those in attendance, (all 150 of them), seemed to enjoy both the Cisco Kid episode as well as the 1935 Depression Era film!  Jean Arthur & Leo Carrillo were outstanding in the film!   Also, Phyllis Coates was featured in the Cicso Kid episode.  She of course was 'Lois Lane' in 26 episodes of the 1950s TV Series 'Adventures of Superman' from 1951-1953!   Another tie-in to comic books is the Cisco Kid series from Dell Comics. There are 41 issues of this series, as seen at this link.   Also... Here is the link to what else is playing this 2013 Film Festival Season.   You must make a reservation in advance to be one of the 150 attendees of each Friday Night's film showing.  The cost is 'Free', and we always have great fun under the stars at this seasonal Film Festival!    ~Michael The Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park Is Celebrating Its 10th Anniversary This Year!    Refreshments Are Served At the Pool's Cabana. Which Is Good, Because It Was Hot & Humid Last Night!   I Had An El Conquistador For Dinner.  Plus I Won A Free Large Popcorn At the Spinning Wheel!   The Feature Film Was 'If You Could Only Cook'!   Note: You can see more photos from this event at this Special Photo Album on my Facebook Fan Page!

Michael D Hamersky On Comics Mentions That... Doomed! Has a New Web Site!   (The Untold Story of Roger Corman's Fantastic Four Film!)     TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #3940 -     Back in June of this year, I blogged about Doomed! having an IndieGoGo Fundraiser, at blog #3876.   Although the fundraiser did not meet its goal, there was a lot of attention on this project.   I just wanted to update you all on the fact that Doomed! has a revamped web site that I thought you might want to check out.  I'll be posting updates in the months to follow... Michael D Hamersky On Comics Presents His Take On The...   Final TGIF Jazz in the Parks Concert For the 2013 Season Held August 23rd featuring Big Time Operator!     TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #3939 -     This past Friday night, my wife, a neighbor and myself attended the final TGIF Jazz in the Parks concert in Carlsbad, California.   I had blogged about the then upcoming 2013 Season back in blog #3893, which listed the parks and the featured bands.   The final concert of the season featured Big Time Operator, who played at the TGIF for the 13th time during all those 28 seasons!     Once again this band outdid themselves, and I was glad they were featured as the last band of the 2013 Season!   I'm uploading the rest of the photos I shot at a special photo album at my Facebook Fan Page.   Here is the link to Big Time Operator's Facebook Fan Page.   Besides vocalist Warren Lovell, there was also a female singer on Friday. (I didn't catch her name).    I'll be uploading videos taken at this concert at my YouTube Channel in the near future.   My thanks to the band for a great final evening to this 2013 TGIF Jazz in the Parks Season.   Plus my thanks to all of those that had a hand in putting on this 28th Season of the TGIF Jazz in the Parks!   And a Special Thanks to Vikki, Joe & Tina for bringing such delicious eats all season long!  The lobster rolls, cole slaw, and special pie last Friday was a fantastic combination!    ~Michael Just a few members of the Big Time Operator Band!    There were two vocalists at the concert!     Warren Lovell had a great evening performing!   There was an added attraction at the concert!   Note: You can see more photos from this event at this Special Photo Album on my Facebook Fan Page!
