Continuing My Series On Creators that will be at the Comic Con International San Diego 2009, AND whom I think You should make a point to stop and see...

Are Jim Balent and Holly Golightly at their BroadSword Comics Booth!

For those that aren't aware of Jim's background: "JIM BALENT is an American comic book illustrator from Pennsylvania. He is perhaps best known for his long run on Catwoman between 1993 and 1999. Balent has also drawn Batman and Lobo for DC Comics, as well as some of the issues of Purgatori for the independent comic publisher Chaos! Comics. In 1999, Balent left mainstream comics to form his own company, BroadSword Comics, which publishes Tarot: Witch of the Black Rose. Broadsword Comics also reprinted Vampfire, which was created, written and drawn by Balent's wife Holly Golightly."

Holly is also well known in the comics industry:   "HOLLY GOLIGHTLY is a comic book writer and artist, formerly known as Fauve. She also has worked under the name Holly G! Her list of work ranges from Nightmare Theatre (for Chaos! Comics) to Sabrina (for Archie Comics) to her creator-owned work like Vampfire and School Bites. She also is the colorist for Jim Balent's Tarot: Witch of the Black Rose as well as the model for Tarot herself. She has recently expanded into pin-ups/modeling with her husband Jim Balent doing the photography and has her own pin-up calendar."

Plus For Two Days Only (Wednesday and Thursday), Jim and Holly will be joined by Tonya Kay, who is better known to comic book fans as 'Creature', the Superhero contestant on the First Season of Stan Lee's 'Who Wants To Be A Superhero?!".

Holly sent me the following message to post with this blog:

"BroadSword Comics' Jim Balent & Holly G! will be at booth 1715
from 7/22-7/26!

They will be doing free quick convention sketches and signning whatever goodies that you bring to the table!  There will be rare issues and a Special SDCC Sketchbook!

Also... Tonya Kay of Stan Lee's "So you want to be a Superhero" will be joining Jim & Holly 7/22 & 7/23  ONLY!

A Special Pin Up has been created to celebrate her Broadsword Comics Booth appearance that you may get signed by both Jim & her at purchase!   WooHoo!"

There's even more going on at the Broadsword Comics booth after Tonya Kay leaves their booth... So check 'em out when you get a chance after wards as well!

BTW, if you are not one of the 125,000+ persons that are attending this great comic book & pop culture convention this month, then you should take a look at both Jim's & Holly websites:  (mature audiences only for Jim's) http://www.jimbalent.com          and  http://www.myspace.com/hollywitch

However, if you are attending  the San Diego Comic Con International later on this month, then please find and then hi-lite on your program map the Broadsword Comics Booth to see Holly & Jim.  You'll be glad You did!  I know I will!

Please Note:  Days and Times of signings /programs / panels / doors opening etc., are subject to change at any convention, so double check that when you get there!  There is a daily updated printed schedule that is available onsite!

For those that don't know... the 2009 SDCC / CCI-SD is being held at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, California.

The address is: 111 W Harbor Dr, San Diego, CA.  Dates of the Con are from July 23rd through July 26th, with a Preview Night July 22nd for 4 day Badge Members Only!  However as this blog post 'goes to press' ALL memberships have been SOLD OUT already!

CONVENTION TIP:  Always make sure that the creators You want to sign Your comics know how to spell your name, even if it is a 'common' name.  You wouldn't believe how many people mis-spell 'Michael' !  Either hold your Con Badge out with the correct spelling as a guide for whoever is signing, or have a card with a legibly written name you want the item signed to.  Below is Michael after having Stan Lee sign his Fantastic Four Comics at a late 1990's San Diego Comic Con International held at the Convention Center in San Diego, California.
