TODAY'S FEATURE - Blog #3243:

What's the saying...???

"All Good Things have to come to an end..."?

Well, if that's the case, last night Tina and I once again joined a few of our church friends at the 5th and FINAL Night of the 2010 Leo Carrillo Film Festival.

This is the same Film Festival that I started blogging about early last month, (see here for full film schedule in my earlier post) to inform everyone that there would be five (5) successive Friday Nights in the 2010 Season.

This has been the BEST Season that Tina and I have attended so far, IMO. For those of YOU that are relatively close to Coastal North San Diego County and haven't attended one of these evenings yet, I suggest you read this blog and the others I have posted through the years, and then plan to attend the 2011 Film Festival!

Here are just a few of the hi-lites for me and Tina from this 5th & Final Night:

First, I want to mention that it was Hot Dog Night Under the Stars!

The crew grilling the hot dogs, (some who are shown at the top right of this blog), did a great job, AND sold of of them at intermission time!

I had a Conquistador at the start of the show, and then three regular hot dogs during the rest of the show.

AND they went great with the bottle of wine that Tina chose to bring along!

We met up with some of our church friends, who were there for the first night and then the last night of the 2010 Film Season.  Nice to see some new people there, including Armando Carrillo and his wife Louise.

And NO, Armando says he isn't directly related to Leo's family, even though he asked for a 'Family Discount, LOL!

Pictured L-R are: Rev. Diana Swenson, Dick Swenson, Louise Carrillo, and Armando Carrillo.  Not pictured to the far left is Tina, to whom Diana is talking to.

I also met Ron Bykowski again, who is the Docent that we usually see when we take friends or family to the Leo Carrillo Ranch on weekends. Ron is pictured to the top right in the photo section of this blog.

Again, I want to mention the NEW Exhibit, that just previewed two weeks ago, curated by my Facebook Friend, Gerry Streff. See the last blog on the Ranch by clicking here for more photos of this excellent exhibit.

Thanks again Gerry, for showing me the hi-lites of the exhibit that week!

AND if YOU haven't seen this New Exhibit, check it out! You will need to attend with a docent tour, so be aware of the hours of the two tours...

I've already shown the Grand Prize for the 'Opportunity Drawing', but the other two prizes were worthwhile also!

To the left is the 2nd Prize, which was the book that Leo CArrillo wrote, 'The California I Love'.  You can pick this up at the Gift Store at the front of the Ranch, if YOU haven't read it before!

And no, we don't have any copies to sell in our online store, although that is a thought...It could go along with the Cisco Kid Comic Books that we buy and sell...!

Oh, and we didn't win this time in the 'Opportunity Drawing'.  However Tina won a prize in the  'Trivia Game' that was played.  See her prize in the photo section at the top right of this blog post.  She was kind enough to share some of the prize with me!  Thanks, Tina!

I have to admit...The 'Opportunity Drawing' prizes keep getting better every season!  And I enjoyed winning mine the 1st Night of the Season!  If YOU didn't see that blog post...We had a great dinner using the fixings in the 2nd Prize Package from Cheri's Desert Harvest!

Now I want to mention Charles Balteria, who is the face and voice of this Leo Carrillo Film Festival for those that attend.

I've mentioned Charles before, but to the left is another photo from Friday night.

He is a great host, as are all the others on staff from the City of Carlsbad, as well as the Volunteers that greet you at the parking lot and guide you to where the Film Festival is below!

Charles introduces the Cisco Kid TV Show episode that is shown first.  He also runs the intermission break, while additional 'Opportunity Drawing' tickets are sold.

Plus he introduces the Feature Film of the Night. Great job each season, Charles!

BTW, the Cisco Kid episode on Friday Night was titled 'Haven For Heavies' - (TV episode 1951 #1.20).  I kept looking at the female lead in the episode, and did she look familar, even though she was in western garb!  Turned out she was Phyllis Coates...YES, That Phyllis Coates!

Phyllis was 'Lois Lane' in 24 episodes of the "Adventures of Superman' back in 1952-53!  Another comic book tie-in for me!

Oh, and I was going to post a photo of the screen credits showing her in it, but I reached my camera too late to get a shot of her being listed in it...

Also, when researching for this blog post...I found that Phyllis was actually in four (4) episodes of the Cisco Kid TV Show!

Now here's what the City of Carlsbad and the Friends of Leo Carrillo Ranch, Inc. showed last night as the Fifth & Final Film in the 2010 Leo Carrillo Film Festival:

•Sept. 24 – Honululu Lu (1940) run time: 70 minutes.  Upon arriving in Hawaii with Don Esteban Cordoba (Leo Carrillo), Consuelo Cordoba (Lupe Velez) finds herslef in a risque nighclub and due to her involvement with a group of sailors has a chance to become a beauty queen.  Starring: Leo Carrillo, Lupe Velez and Bruce Bennett.

I found this film to be really funny, which was probably the intent when it was first released in 1940.  The USA was still in the Great Depression era, and there was a War going on elsewhere.

The USA had not yet entered WWII, and probably most on the Mainland thought that Hawaii was a far away country!

Lupe Velez was OUTSTANDING in this role!

Plus Leo was actually a full co-star in this film.  Very good role for him.  He was definitely a good looking man, and this film showed him as a ladies man!

This was a good film to end the 2010 Leo Carrillo Film Festival with!

BTW, all of the films that Leo Carrillo was in were in black & white, EXCEPT for one.  Do YOU know which one that was??!! Answer at the end of this blog post.  And that is what Tina guessed right and won her 'prize'!

I shot 111 photos last night, so if you were there and are not pictured, that's why!  Even though I am somewhat 'talkative' in this blog, there isn't enough room to show them in all in one blog post!

Which is why I run additional blog posts on the Leo Carrillo Ranch during the off-season of the Leo Carrillo Film Festival. As you can see by this link, I've blogged a lot about this historical place and the Film Festival.

BTW, if you don't know...I also blog about this Film Festival every year because there is a comic book connection as well!

There were 40 issues of the Cisco Kid comic book title from Dell Comics, starting in January of 1951 and ending with the Oct/Dec 1958 issue!  Here's a link to all of those covers!

PLUS: Here's a link to the blog posts that we've blogged about in the past to show you what's at the Leo Carrillo Ranch, as well as what fun we had at the Leo Carrillo Film Festival in recent years:  Click here for the link!

Our thanks again to the City of Carlsbad, and to the LeoCarrilloRanch.org people. Plus Gerry Streff for personally explaining the exhibit she curated as mentioned in this blog and the latest ones!

Plus the Friends Of CarrilloRanch.org folks for making the Ranch Docent Tours and the Film Festival possible this year!  Yeah, I'm more excited that this place is in the City of Carlsbad, then I am about LegoLand being nearby!

Oh...We don't have any Cisco Kid DVDs for sale in our online store, (we are keeping ours for our own collection!), but here's a link to one of the better Cisco Kid Collections! Best of The Cisco Kid (35 Episodes)

And I still make this offer...If YOU are attending during any season, and see Tina and myself there...Stop by and say hello!  I'm usually wearing my straw hat and wearing one of my 'Comic Book Collectors Blog.com' indigo colored polo shirts to these events, (as seen at the top left photo of this post)!

PLUS...My thanks again to all of YOU reading this blog and our archived blog posts, now over the 3,240 total posts in number! I do appreciate your continued reading and support of this Blog!

BTW, You can 'follow' this Blog by clicking the 'Follow' Button at this NetworkedBlogs app!  I would appreciate that!!

And here's the Answer to the Trivia Question above...The ONLY color film that Leo Carrillo was in was....(drum roll please)...Phantom of the Opera! The 1943 remake! Which was shown during the 2009 Leo Carrillo Film Festival!  Congrats again to Tina LoSasso for winning the prize for that Trivia Question at the Final Night of the Film Festival!
