TODAY'S FEATURE - Blog #3374:

I met Mike & Carolyn Watson Dubisch at the recent ConDor XVIII convention in San Diego, California.

While there, I attended panels / programs that both of them either were panelists or presented at. Carolyn is shown to the left during a Hogwarts presentation.

I also saw Mike in between panels, where he presented me with the 'Zero' issue of 'The People That Melt In The Rain', that he and Carolyn entered in the 2010 Small Press Idol (SPI) Contest.

(Long time readers of this blog will remember that I blogged a lot during the 2009 SPI Contest, on diferent entries during that year's contest.

This past year of 2010 I didn't participate as much in the SPI event.

What you are seeing at the top right photo of this blog post, is Mike holding the 'Zero' issue from the Round 4 of the SPI Contest.

What I found striking right off the bat, was the front cover.  A well laid out presentation!  The title's logo really portrays the theme of the the comic book.

The inside front cover briefly explained the idea of the Small Press Idol to those that weren't familiar with it.  Plus where you could buy copies of other comics that had made it to Round 4 with a Zero Issue.

The 'splash page' started right in with the storyline!

I found the artwork to be very 'stylistic', fitting the storyline.

Because it was a 'Zero Issue', only 12 pages of story were presented.  Page 13-17 were character illustrated bios of those characters presented in the storyline.

Page 18 was an 'exchange' art page with Danny Kelly, a 'friendly competitor' in the SPI Contest.

Page 19 was Mike Dubisch's bio with photos.

Page 20 was Carolyn Watson Dubisch's bio with photos.

Pages 21 & 22 were ads, including one for Mike Gagnon, whom I blogged about his inks / colors on the 3rd Edition of Classics Illustrated: Davy Crockett  earlier this week. Plus an ad for H-Boyz, which I blogged on earlier also

I also blogged about The Helm, by Jim Hardison, which had a full page ad on the back cover of this comic book, earlier also.

Back to this topic's issue now...

I found the idea to be an interesting one, and as an 'intro' zero issue, one that should 'draw' in a readership.  The character bios fleshed out the presentation.

Carolyn Watson Dubisch & Mike Dubisch should be pleased with this 'Zero Issue'. It was a good intro to their entry in the 2010 SPI Contest!

My review rating for this 'Zero Issue' is a VERY FINE / NEAR MINT (VF/NM) 9.0 out of a 10.0 possible comic book grading scale.

My thanks to Mike Dubisch who presented this zero issue to me for possible review in this blog, and to both Mike & Carolyn for the great panels they either presented individually or co-presented with others at the recent ConDor XVIII. My youngest son and I enjoyed those also!
