Michael D Hamersky On Comics Presents His Take On:

Menthu: CCI 2012 Exclusive Editions
Parts 1 & 2!

TODAY'S FEATURE IS BLOG #3690 -   Well... Here's yet another comic book that I found recently from our five days at the 2012 Comic-Con International: San Diego, (aka San Diego Comic Con or SDCC).

That comic is actually two comics... 'Menthu: CCI 2012 Exclusive Edition' Parts 1 & 2.  These were a limited run for distribution at the Comic-Con.

A while back I review blogged Robert's 4 issue Limited Series on Menthu, as seen in this blog from November 11th of 2009.

Okay... Back?

Here's what this comic book is about per the publisher's promo in Part 1:

"Welcome to Black Inc! Imprints Year of Comics.  And thanks for picking up this preview of MENTHU's next episode. With all of the digital & material options for your money, thank you for investing in this effort.  Your help and patronage are very welcome.

Please know that though you're reading what amounts to the first half of Menthu's adventure with Trouble Man, you're still only seeing the narrative's initial stages.

This IS NOT an undersized copy of rough drawings or brief concept art cobbled together or a 5 or 6 page snippet from an undone story.  You're holding all 23 pages from the advent of Trouble Man's first chapter.

By the end of 20112, you'll see the story in its final stages--fully inked & colored.

But so much for this.  Please enjoy the story."

Okay... There's more in the Part 2 of this two part preview comics package.

But I'll just go to my review next...

Front Covers for Both Part 1 & 2 -  I've presented a photo of Robert Roach holding both comics in the top right of this blog.  Plus shown a larger image of Part 2 at the top of the text piece.  The front cover for Part 1 is just a little 'busy' for me... But the Part 2 cover is right on!

Inside Front Covers - Both Parts have a message from the Publisher, Robert, of which I keypunched Part 1's above.

Splash Pages - Part 1 doesn't have a splash page, but Part 2 does...?  Okay, I'll let that go...

Interior Pages -  As stated above, these preview editions are not in color, so I'm making out the pages in black and white.  I like Robert's artwork... But the artwork is a little out of the panels on some of the pages.   I get the storyline... Not bad at all.

Publisher's Page - Part 1's page is a little bit of info on the first issue, and what Robert intends to do with the rest of the series.

Publisher's Pages - Part 2 takes two pages to bring more info to the reader.

So... What's my thoughts on this two issue preview?

I'm thinking that the two issues give enough to understand what the storyline is about, and conveys a satisfying story as well.  The artwork is fine, and I'm looking forward to the colorized version when it is printed.  There are six issues planned for this limited series.  So I'm looking forward to seeing them.

My rating for this comic book issue?  A Very Fine / Near Mint  (VF/NM) 9.0 out of a possible 10.0 comic book grading scale.  Thanks to Robert Roach for bringing these Special Extended Preview Editions to my attention at his booth at the 2012 Comic-Con International: San Diego!

You can find these comics at the Hometown Productions web site. Please note that the web site is going under some reconstruction at this time.
