TODAY'S FEATURETTE:

FOUND AT THE 2009 COMIC CON INTERNATIONAL - SAN DIEGO:   Below is a photo from the Small Press section of the SDCC / SDCCI.

That's Samuel Vera proudly holding one of the issues of one of his creations, "There's An Alien In My Toilet'!

I was given a press kit by Samuel, and have read it and taken a look at his web site.  Besides the mentioned publication, he also has other series that have been published.

I'm suggesting that you take some time to check out his works, and come up with your own opinion of what Samuel is publishing.  His works are being licensed for other items for the 7 - 13+ years groups.

I didn't receive a copy of any of them to review, so I can't make a real review here in the "Featurette" section of my Blog.

Here is Samuel Vera's web site:

http://www.CrazeeComics.com

Check it out in 2010... the year's just starting!

If I find out more about his works, I'll be sure to mention that here.

My thanks to Samuel for the press kit.  It was helpful in deciding whether or not to mention your works here.  Have a Great and Successful 2010!

---------------------------

BTW, there is something that I've thinking about saying since last year... and now is the time to print it here I believe.

I do want to mention that several creators at this giant-sized comic con, (SDCC), didn't have press kits, nor did they have preview copies for those like myself that expressed a prelim interest in their publications.  Usually not even a bookmark, flyer, etc., and some without business cards even.

Tina repeatedly would mention to me the lack of marketing materials at several tables in Artists Alley or at the booths in the Small Press Section of this comic con.

Coming from a publisher's background, she could see that there was good creativity there, but a lack of marketing know-how.  And actually several creators wouldn't even engage the public when they stopped at their table.  If they were sketching for a paying customer, I could see that, but this wasn't the case...

My Blog is about publications either already printed or in pre-publication mode.  There is no charge for this.  The only thing is, I've got to like the publication, OR it is unique enough that even if I didn't overly like it; that it was different enough to blog about it here for my blog readers.  I don't do negative blogs.

So for those creators that didn't have materials at this SDCC, or the LBCC, or the other cons / shows we attended in 2009...

I've made a special blog post about: "How To Best Submit YOUR Publication For Possible Review!" for those creators that would like to possibly have their publications mentioned or reviewed, either in the 'Main Feature' or 'Featurette' sections.

That's it for now... going to get off my 'soapbox', and finish up a couple of projects for the day before shutting down the laptop!

~Michael
