TODAY'S FEATURE - Blog #3375: As stated in Blog #3365, I met Hector Reyes again at the recent ConDor XVIII, which was held at the Town & Country Resort in the Mission Valley area of San Diego. Hector, who is the Anime Conji Chair for this year, mentioned to me that the 2nd Annual Anime Conji would be held at this same facility that ConDor was at... During the weekend of March 25th - 27th of 2011. I made plans to attend this con all three days. My youngest son, Vinnie, would attend the Saturday & Sunday sessions.
The registration & badge pick up was a little 'rough', even though it started at 10 AM and I was there by 11:30 AM. However, the staff and volunteers made it go by pretty good for a new location that the Anime Conji moved to. As explained in Part 1 of my blog series on this con, the first one was held at the Doubletree in Mission Valley also.
Due to the length of time to pick up my badge, I missed the first part of th first panel I wanted to see, 'Convention Survival Guide'. I found the two hosting the panel to be informative, and were friendly to their audience. (Please Note: This Anime Conji skews to a much younger crowd. I had mentioned in my blog on the ConDor XVIII that it skewed to an older crowd.) After that panel, I attended the 'best panel' for me of the day. That of 'Web Comics'. The panel was hosted by the Chairman of the Con, Hector Reyes, and those four persons who are currently presenting 'Strawberry Scented Burnout' web comic. Later they were joined by the creator of 'Trying Human' web comic. There were many questions from the audience about how to break into webcomics. So there is a lot of interest in this topic among those at Anime Conji. This was the 2nd year of this panel. (See the middle top right photo of this blog post.)
What I did enjoy was seeing Tadao Tomomatsu, actor, comedian, and jack of most trades do the impromptu 'warm up show' along with another voice actor. Great 'warm up' show! I next went to the Dealer Room / Artist Alley area, where I spent a long time checking out the items for sale. I'll be posting more of those pics in the 'Anime Conji 2011' photo album at my Facebook Fan Page, 'Michael D Hamersky On comics'. Later, there was a long line to get in to the 'Swap Meet' activity upstairs. So I checked out the AMV Contest. The con was scheduled to run until 1:30 AM with a 'Dance of the Night', but I cut out early, because I wanted to visit my mom, who is still in the hospital, recovering from surgery. (She is scheduled to go home later today.) Anyways, being my first 'official' truly anime con, I found that I had fun, with a looser schedule to meet on the first day. Today and tomorrow, my youngest son will be with me at this con, so we'll see what he wants to see and report on! So for those of YOU that haven't been to Anime Conji before... So yesterday, (Friday), I drove down to the 2nd Annual Anime Conji. Unfortunately it was pouring rain in the early morning drive. Not good for the 1st day of a convention that is held at a hotel setting, where the panels & events are held either in different rooms you have to access by going outside, or events that were scheduled to be outside. But this being my first 'official' Anime Con, I still wanted to go on the first day!
Again, the staff and volunteers made the line workable and those in line where I was, were very understanding. If you are going today, (Saturday), or Sunday, please allow enough time to either get registered or pick up your prepaid membership badges!
After that I took in the 'Steam Powered Giraffe' musical group, which I watched for a short while, after it took a while to set up.
